I Became The Vampire Progenitor -
Chapter 203-2: The Players Arrive (Part 2)
“Priest Mitt, I’m not too interested in learning a new language. Could you teach me how to use that spell you just used… uh…”
“Tier 2 Spell: Universal Comprehension.”
“Yes! That one! Could you teach it to me?”
Mitt gave him a disdainful look.
“Tier 2 Spells require you to be a Level 5 spellcaster. Glory’s Light, you’re currently just a commoner. You’re not qualified to learn spells.”
Glory’s Light’s face soured.
“Don’t worry. Once the spell wears off, you can come find me again. For the next month, I can cast Universal Comprehension on you twice a day, free of charge,” Mitt added with a clean smile. “Her Majesty the Goddess has decreed that we are to aid you however we can.”
“And after a month?” Glory’s Light caught the time limit instantly.
“After that, each casting will cost one Silver Puck.”
Glory’s Light blinked. He knew from the official site that Gold, Silver, and Copper Pucks were the currencies used in the game, but he had no idea if a Silver Puck was a lot or a little.
“Lord Mitt, is there anything I can do to assist you?”
He had clearly entered full-on player mode.
If you want to level up, get stronger, and earn money. What’s better than taking on quests?
Mitt shook his head. “Glory’s Light, you’re still too weak. You’re not even as strong as the average peasant. Come back once you’ve become a Professional.”
The priest’s blunt reply left Glory’s Light a bit embarrassed, but what player cared about pride?
“Lord Mitt, please let me transfer to the priest class. I’m willing to become a follower of the Goddess of Life!”
But Mitt’s next words made Glory’s Light acutely aware of how hardcore this world really was.
“No, Glory’s Light. Becoming a priest requires innate talent. While I can sense that you have some aptitude for spellcasting, it is not enough to meet the standards of the Temple of Life. You cannot become a priest.
Perhaps you should go out and explore. The warrior class might suit you better.”
As he said the word warrior, Mitt’s face twisted with a hint of contempt that Glory’s Light failed to catch.
Those crude barbarians, spellcasters had always looked down on them.
‘I need talent to be a priest??’ Glory’s Light felt a deep, bitter sting from this world.
Wasn’t priest supposed to be a starter class?
Mage, Priest, Archer, Rogue, Warrior. Those were the five starters, right? Why wasn’t he eligible??
He opened his mouth to argue, but Mitt’s calm, unwavering expression shut him down instantly.
“Could you offer me some advice, then?”
“Young man, find a job in town and earn a living. Then perhaps think about becoming a Professional later,” Mitt said dismissively.
He hadn’t gotten any useful information from the adventurer, and his interest was fading. He waved his hand to send Glory’s Light off.
The Lost Planes were severed from the Main Plane during the ancient war. Though they were called "planes," most were actually insignificant fragments with little value.
Over the years, they had discovered many Lost Planes, most were barren and primitive.
Glory’s Light’s lack of insight had led Mitt to believe he came from one such insignificant plane.
And since he also had poor magical talent, Mitt had no more reason to entertain him.
Glory’s Light left the church looking dejected and finally took a look at his character panel.
Name: Glory’s Light
Level: 1
Class: Commoner
Reputation: 0
Skills: None
Status: (Universal Comprehension)
A blank slate, more blank than his exam papers in school.
“That’s it? Not even a tutorial?”
Standing in the center of this dazzling city, Glory’s Light was at a complete loss.
“Damn it… this game is too hardcore. Who am I? What am I doing? Where the hell do I go from here?”
When Glory’s Light finally stood on the main street of Green City, the dazzling spectacle before him made him momentarily forget his goals. He stared wide-eyed, greedily drinking in the view around him.
The city before him was built in full medieval European style. The buildings on either side of the street mostly had steeply pitched spires, and many rooftops bore carved statues of dragons or angels. Down below, semicircular windows shimmered with stained glass in vibrant hues.
The walls along the street were covered with vivid, colorful murals.
There was a rich, ancient flavor to it all.
This was culture. True culture, accumulated only through the slow passage of time.
Glory’s Light was filled with excitement, his eyes overwhelmed by the details around him.
On the wide bluestone streets, peasants clad in rough gray linen moved with caution, their eyes lifeless and dull. Only when they saw nobles or mercenaries bearing weapons did any emotion flicker across their faces, and it was always fear.
Warriors clad in gray leather armor swaggered past street corners, heads held high in arrogant pride. Shopkeepers and passing peasants alike watched them with wary glances.
Nobles riding tall horses were dressed in lavish attire, robes embroidered with golden and silver threads, half-sheer sleeves and elegant cravats, every detail screamed noble heritage.
Each scene was filled with the exotic flavor of another world.
Sunlight seared his skin, and a pungent odor of sewage clung to the air.
All these sensations made Glory’s Light’s face light up in utter exhilaration.
“Holy crap, this is a real virtual game. Everything else before this? Trash. No, this is a whole other world!”
After ogling everything around him for a long while, Glory’s Light finally pulled his gaze back in and suddenly his face dropped.
He realized he had absolutely no idea what to do next.
This was a truly open world. And for someone used to games that bombarded you with tutorial quests from minute one, this left him completely lost.
Just then, he overheard two peasants dressed in short gray shirts and sun-darkened skin whispering nearby.
“Did you hear? The Crimson Mage Tower is recruiting apprentices again. Maybe you should let your kid go try?”
“Man, I’m jealous. I heard mage apprentices get twenty Silver Pucks a month!”
The dazed Glory’s Light perked up like a drowning man spotting a lifeboat. Beaming, he rushed over and interrupted their conversation.
“Excuse me, do you know where the Crimson Mage Tower is?”
The two men jumped at the sudden interruption, but when they saw the ragged young man looked like just another peasant, their wariness turned into smug pride.
“New refugee?”
Refugee? Glory’s Light almost exploded, does this handsome face look like a refugee to you?? But seeing the arms on these two were thicker than his thighs, he wisely decided not to press the issue.
“No, I’m an adventurer from another world. Do you know where I can find the Crimson Mage Tower that’s recruiting apprentices?”
Adventurer from another world?
The two exchanged looks of derision.
Doesn’t even know where the Crimson Mage Tower is? Refugees these days are getting dumber by the minute.
“By the Goddess, refugees are calling themselves adventurers now?
“A Level 1 Commoner Adventurer? Hahaha, you’re really something!”
Their mocking eyes dealt a massive blow to Glory’s Light’s ego.
Would you believe me if I told you I got laughed at by two peasant NPCs… on my first day in the game??
“Damn it! You dare laugh at me? You think I won’t show you the might of a player?!”
In a rage, Glory’s Light launched a divine charge at the two.
Three minutes later…
“I was wrong, good sirs. Please, not the face! Ahhh, not the face!”
“Stop, stop, I give up! I surrender!”
“Daddy, I’m sorry…”
After being dragged into an alley and thoroughly “disciplined,” Glory’s Light barely escaped with his life from the hands of two random peasant NPCs.
As he limped away, every inch of him screaming in pain, Glory’s Light was struck by an overwhelming despair.
What kind of bullshit game is this?! I’m a freakin’ PLAYER, and I couldn’t even beat two rando peasants?!
Just as he was crawling out of the alleyway, he overheard another conversation nearby.
“See that tower? That’s the Crimson Mage Tower. Tsk tsk, they’ve been recruiting a lot of apprentices lately. Maybe you should let your kid try.”
“Heh, Jelley, you didn’t hear? My boy got picked just yesterday.”
“Praise the Goddess, that’s amazing luck.”
Glory’s Light’s eyes lit up instantly.
I will have my revenge!! Those two bastards, just you wait, I’ll show you what Grandpa can do!
He whipped his head toward a tall crimson tower three streets away, twenty blades high, with an exterior like burnished blood.
That’s the Crimson Mage Tower where they’re recruiting mage apprentices?
Priest Mitt had said he had some talent for spellcasting.
And according to the official site, Mages were the top-ranked class in Glory.
“I will become a Mage… and I will have my revenge!”
Bloodied and bruised, Glory’s Light, with panda eyes and a shredded shirt, charged toward the crimson tower like a madman.
Little did Li De know at the time, the players’ arrival into this world wasn’t going to go the way he’d imagined.
Their clown-show of a beginning? It was straight-up nightmare difficulty.
