I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 424: The Deceptive Plot of Suizi

Chapter 424: Chapter 424: The Deceptive Plot of Suizi

Aside from a few rare exceptions such as the old Yu family who were absurdly lucky with alternate sources of wealth, for most families, raising 6000 would legitimately take the collective effort of the entire clan.

With Suizi raising the price by 2000, it was certainly placing these folk under substantial pressure.

After discussing privately, the two brothers returned equipped with a calmer demeanor, a far cry from the haughty attitude they held when they first stepped foot into the house.

Suizi shot Yu Jingting a meaningful glance, signalling him to stall these two.

Having received Suizi’s signal, Yu Jingting neither agreed nor disagreed. He fished out cigarettes from his pockets and began distributing it amongst those present in the room.

Using this diversion, Suizi, under the pretext of fetching water, ventured outside, tugging Wang Cuihua with her.

Wang Cuihua looked at Suizi, to which Suizi gestured a hand movement that indicated her counting and calculating something.

The location where the two women stood allowed the old Yu father and son to see them, whereas the village chief and the two brothers could not make out their movements.

Wang Cuihua stared at Suizi puzzled, while Suizi mimicked a hand movement to mimic counting on her fingers while silently mouthing the word "doomed" to Wang Cuihua.

Wang Cuihua immediately understood.

With Yu Jingting’s stalling nearing its completion, Wang Cuihua began clucking her tongue, making the gesture of moving her fingers to predict one’s fortune and shaking her head.

"My goodness, this matter is surely going to be a disaster."

"Auntie, what are you mumbling about?" The pair of brothers were confused by Wang Cuihua’s antics.

When the Suizi family still resided there, they held a certain influence in Yang Village.

Apart from Suizi being infamous as the Lucky Star, Wang Cuihua’s reputed clairvoyant abilities were well known too.

Ever since Wang Cuihua moved to the city, many individuals who would have sought her foresight were left desolate.

These two brothers were envious of the Yu family’s rise to prosperity through their tractor. Yet, they also feared the divine power of Wang Cuihua and her daughter, Suizi, rumored to be almost miraculous.

"This tractor, it really isn’t great. When I predict the future...you guys are doomed."

As she spoke, Wang Cuihua glanced at Suizi who was entering with a basin of water in hand. Suizi gave her a wink.

Wang Cuihua felt reassured.

Oh, the daughter-in-law wanted her to continue her bluff.

"You two, one of you was born in the year of the horse and the other, ox, correct? This year is your year of misfortune according to the Chinese zodiac. The gods have warned you not to overspend; doing so would invite disaster."

These well-rehearsed words effortlessly tumbled out of Wang Cuihua’s mouth. Villagers were sensitive to their zodiac birth years, and Wang Cuihua recalled the birthdates of the two brothers.

The village chief was the most devout believer in all this. Hearing Wang Cuihua’s ominous predictions, he immediately tried to dissuade the brothers:

"Listen to your aunt. There are plenty of opportunities to get rich. Why be fixated on someone else’s tractor?"

As the brothers hesitated, the older brother seemed to be wavering. The younger brother glanced at the piano owned by the Yu family, then at the television and radio. Bit by bit, his fear was overcome by his greed.

In his view, the secret to the Yu family’s wealth was the tractor.

Folks in the village didn’t know how hard the members of the Yu family labored in the city. Their current wealth was a result of good fortune and strength, but also quite a bit of conniving antics.

The majority of the furniture in their house was, in fact, cleverly scored by Suizi from the Fan family.

Indeed, the tractor could bring about wealth, but it wasn’t anything extraordinarily mystical.

However, these people didn’t understand the zigzags and complexities of it all. They assumed that owning a tractor would lead to absolutely everything.

And so, the younger brother steeled himself.

"Eight thousand, we’ll take it!"

"Are you out of your mind?"

"We’ll mortgage our house and paying the remaining within half a year. If we fail to pay, you can take the house; we’re taking the tractor today!"

As Suizi returned from outside carrying water, she overheard Yu Jingting’s absurd bargain.

"The house is a big deal; have you two thought it through?"

"We have!"

"If you regret it later——"

"Whoever regrets is a dog!"

"You can start barking now."

"!!!"

Yu Jingting had successfully escalated the situation, but Suizi intervened before any blows were exchanged.

"You both need to think this through. My mother-in-law has predicted that this matter won’t end well. You can still back out right now. If you insist on buying the tractor and any misfortune befalls you, don’t blame us."

The two brothers figured that the Yu family was just resisting to amuse them. Despite the Yu family’s attempts to dissuade them, they stubbornly wrote the IOU, handed over the cash, and triumphantly drove away the tractor.

Even after the brothers had left, the village chief continued to mutter.

"In my opinion, it would have been better if you guys backed out. The Yu family has mystical powers; even Suizi brings immense luck. My daughter-in-law was blessed with a healthy grandson only after she touched Suizi’s belly. Crossing such a fortunate family, is really not a good idea."

"What does her giving birth have to do with her? That’s because your son was capable! Sir, either return to the village or rent a car to get back if you’re not riding our tractor!"

The village chief had nothing left to say and waved the Yu family goodbye, leaving with the two brothers.

"Tiegen, what are you two playing at? We had a perfectly good tractor. Why would you just give it away?"

Wang Cuihua began questioning, after everyone had left, her face reflecting her heartache.

The tractor helped the family rake in their first big bucks and played a major role in helping them settle down in the city.

Although they’ve reaped considerable profits and withdrawn their principal investment, she was left with a hollow feeling.

"Now that our golden goose has flown the coop, how do we manage? We’d planned for your father to drive the tractor, but now there’s no tractor left to drive!"

"We could have my father learn to ride a large goose and then let Tieqiu and Tiebing parade around town. Women from all over would be turning to look at them."

"Little rascal! Why wouldn’t you ride instead? Why wouldn’t you get women to look at you?"

Yu Shuisheng, still engrossed in the joy of the family’s joint trickery, was unexpectedly caricatured by his son and became furious.

"My wife is good-looking enough, that’s sufficient for me."

"Isn’t my wife good-looking too?!"

The father and son began arguing over whose wife was more alluring.

"Jingting, stop stoking the fire and talk about the issue at hand."

"Old fogey, why are you bothering with a child?"

The grandmother and daughter-in-law each pulled someone apart, while Yu Shuisheng was still challenging Yu Jingting.

"Without your mother, would you and your sister look this good? Without your looks, would Suizi even like you?"

"If Tiegen looked like you, there’s a high probability he wouldn’t even land a wife, let alone marry a wonderful woman like Suizi."

Wang Cuihua levelled with some prophetic words, leaving Yu Shuisheng’s defenses shattered.

With an aggrieved look at Wang Cuihua, he inwardly wondered, whose side are you on?

"Suizi, see that? Whenever these men gather, they only ever talk about trivial things. That’s why I say men can’t manage a household, women do a much better job."

Wang Cuihua sided neither with her son nor her husband; her heart was entirely with Suizi.

"Yes, whatever mother says is right."

Yu Jingting was amused and clapped the shoulder of his dearly devastated father.

"They are a real mother-daughter pair, while we were dredged up from a garbage dump."

Suizi chuckled at seeing Yu Jingting’s jovial antics. Ever since her father-in-law returned, even though Yu Jingting’s position in the family hasn’t improved, he seems happier because his father has joined as a fellow companion of the garbage dump.

"But seriously, Tiegen, why did you sell the tractor? Why make me say that they would be doomed?"

Wang Cuihua dragged the conversation back to the original concern.

"Why ask? This gal here is definitely cooking up some sort of scheme." Although Yu Jingting couldn’t guess precisely what Suizi was planning,

Based on her usual tactics, she must definitely be scheming something big. Otherwise, she would not have laid out such an intricate plan.
