Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 672: John Doe

Chapter 672: John Doe

"Ah!!!" Ulysses let out a pained scream as the purple flames engulfed him, melting off his skin and turning his bones to ashes.

He staggered while screaming, his hands over his head as he tried to escape the flames but alas, try as he may, he couldn’t.

The flames had covered the entire hallway, ensuring that no matter how far he went, he was still within range of the unnatural flames.

If there was anything good about the current situation, it was that, due to the flames, no more insectoids dared to come in.

But that was hardly a positive thing once one understood that due to no longer piloting the submarine, the vehicle was currently stationary and for that reason, its hull was being covered by several insectoids, all of whom were seeking to breach the outer layer to get in.

Ulysses dropped to the ground as the last of him burned up, his body reduced to a mishmash of melted flesh and ashes.

Only then did the purple flames dissipate, allowing more insectoids to pour in once again.

As they spread across the submarine, destroying everything in sight, a grunt suddenly echoed amidst the droning of their wings.

From the ashes, Ulysses emerged, completely naked with eyes filled with shock.

He had thought that his capability to regenerate had a limit, but clearly, that was not the case.

Apart from the unnatural lumps on his body which were quickly disappearing, Ulysses was without a single blemish.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to dwell on the extent of his immortality as he realized that if he didn’t do something, the ship would soon be completely ripped apart.

Taking a deep breath, Ulysses pulled out a card only to pause.

How many cards would he need to deal with the insectoids?

If he had to guess, the insectoids would keep on coming which meant it would quickly turn into a battle of attrition.

He couldn’t afford to let that happen so he needed to do something to chase the insectoids away.

But what exactly could it be?... An idea came to mind and due to a lack of time to think, he didn’t hesitate to execute it.

He touched on what made him unique, the combined essence of a Demigod and First Class Otherworldly within him, using that to taint his Authority before proceeding to let out a determined roar.

The wave that followed struck the insectoids without mercy, forcing them to pause before they began to flee, seeking every means to get as far away from the source.

Unfortunately, those who were already inside couldn’t get out and so, in a panic, continued to fly around.

As for those outside, they were long gone which helped Ulysses focus on the ones inside.

With the card in his hand, he activated his spirituality and began the cleanup.

By the time he was done, Ulysses couldn’t tell how much time had passed but he knew it wouldn’t be long before the insectoids would return if he didn’t reproduce the aura that chased them away.

He rushed to pilot the ship only to be met with a most unfortunate sight.

The pilot cabin was in ruins and from the looks of it, the submarine was no longer capable of moving.

He was at least lucky that it was still floating but that state was only temporary as slowly but surely, the ship began to sink down, approaching the thick fog below.

***

It was a village nestled in a valley that Elena managed to find.

According to what she could detect, it seemed to be rather isolated, far removed from the rest of the Solomon Alliance.

It wasn’t a surprise, considering that they were indeed villages like this one scattered across the continent.

They spoke a different tongue, not at all like Impala, which was considered the national language of the Solomon Alliance.

Alex resorted to signing to pass across the fact that they were not armed or dangerous, a message that was sorely needed considering they would have been attacked otherwise.

The tribesmen alternated looks with one another while Alex sighed wistfully inwardly, his gaze falling upon the Quillion shards around their necks.

To be a denizen of the supernatural in Henos was to be subjected to constant powerlessness.

Just then, some more tribesmen arrived, accompanied by a man who looked completely different from them.

Starting from the fact that his clothing looked modern, sharing similarities to the fashion prevalent in Zion.

He wore a pair of spectacles and his demeanor appeared scholarly, marking him out as an academic.

"What are the chances that this guy is Razan?" Alex asked Victoria in Enochic only for the man to respond.

"Quite high, actually."

Alex glanced back at him, his expression a mixture of surprise and amusement. "Well, that simplifies things."

"My name is Archibald Clark, a TruthSeeker." The man, or rather, Archibald introduced himself. "What’s yours?"

"John Doe." Alex lied with relative ease. "Is there perhaps a doctor in this village?... I need medical attention."

Archibald glanced at the wound on Alex’s shoulder, pondering the situation before ultimately nodding. "As long as you cause no trouble."

He was well aware that the continent was currently at war due to correspondence he’d managed to get from the Tower, the ruling body for TruthSeekers within Henos.

Because TruthSeekers had taken a neutral stance, not supporting any factions, he didn’t wish to end up getting caught up in anything that would take him away from his research.

"No problem," Alex said. "Once I’m treated, we’ll be on our way."

Maintaining a wary stance, Archibald remarked. "Follow me."

Then, he turned to return to the village with Alex and Victoria following.

But then, he paused, glancing back to find that Elena was heading in the opposite direction.

"Where is she going?"

"Don’t worry, she has somewhere else to be. She’s the one that brought me and my companion here." Alex calmly explained.

"I see." Archibald’s gaze lingered on Elena’s retreating back briefly before turning away.

Whatever the reason, it was not enough to bother thinking about it.
