Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 636: I am your father

Chapter 636: I am your father

Arwen had just exited that twisted place filled with the cries of her insane brethren when she heard a commotion approaching her position.

She furrowed her brows, her eyes flashing with a green glow as she prepared for whatever was approaching.

However, as the commotion got closer, she realized that perhaps there was no cause for alarm.

"Stop right there!" A banshee exclaimed as she, along with several others chased after a lone banshee who moved quickly, evading the attacks sent her way.

"You won’t stop me from seeing her!" The lone banshee shot back as she kept moving forward without a single care in the world, focused on reaching her intended destination.

The banshees chasing her were not pleased with her actions as one remarked in annoyance. "Insolence!"

Before an order could be passed, the banshee let out a sonic wave, which crashed into the lone banshee, sending her crashing against the wall before skidding unceremoniously to a few meters away from Arwen.

Arwen looked down at the banshee, rather intrigued as she felt a subtle connection to them.

"Apologies, Mistress, we don’t know why she dared to cause problems. We’ll deal with her accordingly."

Saying that, two banshees moved to arrest the lone banshee only for the latter to suddenly shove them aside before grabbing Arwen’s shoulders.

"Mistress!!!" The banshees panicked, worried that the loner would do something foolish.

Arwen, however, was calm as she felt no threat from the person standing before her.

"Is it really you, Arwen?" The lone banshee inquired in a hoarse tone.

Arwen offered no response, merely looking on as the banshee continued.

"When I first saw you, I didn’t want to believe it was you but after so much thought, I can’t deny the fact that you are my Arwen, right?... But why are you here?... Where is your mother?"

Arwen blinked repeatedly as she finally spoke up, posing a question to the loner. "Do I know you?"

The banshee paused before looking down at its hands, its eyes flashing with realization as it took a step back.

"It’s been so long, I forgot that I no longer look the same as back then."

"Who are you?" Arwen inquired as she took a step forward.

"... Gregory." The banshee replied softly. "Gregory Hallewell, Arwen. I am your father."

Alex couldn’t tell how many days had passed as he spent every waking moment within the cage, fed horrible meals by the terrifying old lady.

Naturally, he didn’t dare to touch anything she gave him as he was well aware that it would spell the end for him and perhaps even Nadia.

And so, he starved, almost reaching the point of delirium as he waited patiently for the final phase of this ridiculous fairytale.

Finally, almost like his prayers had been heard by a benevolent deity, the old lady came to check on his condition.

Well aware that in the story, the body made use of a bone to deceive the old lady, Alex didn’t bother to use such a method as it was clear that unlike in the story, this old lady could see quite well.

"Eat your food." The old lady remarked in a cold tone revealing her annoyance with his stubbornness.

Alex offered no response, merely shifting away from the cage entrance.

The old lady glared at him before turning to take her leave.

Alex let out a sigh, hopeful that she wouldn’t return, but it seemed the benevolent deity that had answered his prayers the first time had gone on a short break as she returned with Nadia, who had several burn marks on her body.

It took everything within him not to react as he could already tell what the old lady planned to do.

"Eat or else..." The old lady revealed a hot metal rod as she spoke, pressing it against Nadia’s skin, causing her to scream in agony.

Alex clenched his jaw, managing to control himself as he stared at Nadia who met his eyes with tears in her own.

’Hold on’ Alex thought to himself, hopeful that Nadia would be able to get the message.

The worst thing he could do now was succumb.

If only he was the one being tortured instead of Nadia, things would have been a lot simpler.

"Eat!" The old lady bellowed, clearly upset that Alex was not reacting as she thought he would.

Alex gave her one final look before burying his face in his legs.

The old lady glared at him before turning to leave, dragging Nadia along with her.

Baba Yaga enjoyed eating fresh meals, hence the reason she never killed her targets until it was time to cook them.

She preferred placing them in a state alternating between life and death, ensuring that their flesh remained fresh.

It also made it easier to store so she didn’t have to worry about it spoiling.

She dragged Ana into her special hut, the latter currently encased in what could only be described as a bag made of mucus.

How it managed to persist and even contain a person was not something a mere mortal mind could comprehend.

In any case, just like Victoria, Ana was neither dead nor alive.

Both were in a state of limbo, pertaining to when Baba Yaga decided to eat them.

At this point, after successfully catching three, the Undeath has worked up quite the appetite, so imagine her shock and anger, when she arrived at the fireplace to find Ulysses undercooked and not at all ready for consumption.

Taking a knife from her kitchen cabinet, she sliced off some flesh from Ulysses’ body and chewed on it, her expression taking on a disgusted tone as she abhorred undercooked meat.

Just as she was about to adjust the heat of the fireplace, she paused, her gaze locking on the area she’d just cut.

It had somehow managed to regenerate itself in the blink of an eye.

At that moment, Baba Yaga had a thought, her eyes glowing like one that had found treasure.

She dug out a huge hole in Ulysses’ chest and, the next moment, watched as the flesh stitched itself back together.

Indeed, Baba Yaga thought, she had stumbled upon gold.
