Chapter 634: Lost

Chapter 634: Lost

A sickening squelching sound echoed in the small hut as Baba Yaga dragged Ulysses’ cold corpse toward the fireplace

Her steps were slow but steady, each one drawing her nearer until she was mere inches away and then, she tossed him into the fire, her eyes flashing with delight as Ulysses body somehow managed to enter into the fireplace, before quickly getting engulfed in the flames.

Then, she turned and left with an added skip to her steps as the fire crackled behind her.

However, just as she stepped out of the hut, Ulysses’ finger twitched.

"This can’t be normal!" Nadia remarked as she stuffed her mouth with cake while standing on the roof of the house made of pastries.

"Well, it is, so best to deal with it," Alex replied as he stuffed himself with bread which was what the house walls were made of.

His eyes watered up as he couldn’t understand why it tasted so good, same with Nadia.

For a moment, both lost themselves in the process, chewing loudly as their hunger grew worse with each bite.

Soon, they were so out of it that they didn’t know when an old lady stepped out of the house, her gaze quickly sweeping across the duo with a wicked yet crooked smile dancing on her lips.

She did nothing, instead, watching with joy as Alex and Nadia ate to the point of fainting with the latter falling off the roof in a dangerous position.

But surprisingly, her neck proved sturdy, allowing her to survive the fall.

The old lady licked her lips before she approached the unconscious duo.

Once she was close, she picked their hands and then made her way back into the hut, dragging the duo along.

Elena was on her last matchstick, seconds away from succumbing to the biting cold of winter which seemed to worsen as time passed.

At this point, she could hardly feel her feet any longer and even her fingers were almost gone.

Her skin was dangerously pale and her lips appeared a sickly blue, revealing the level of frostbite she was suffering from.

She couldn’t even breathe properly as the cold pierced her lungs without mercy, causing her even more pain than she could handle.

As her teeth clattered and her body quaked, she struggled to light the last match.

After several attempts, with one nearly ending in the match breaking, she finally got a flame, and at that moment, she saw a bright light.

Unfamiliar memories washed over her, telling her about the story of the body she was in.

A poor orphan abandoned by the community, even if she called out for help no one would answer.

She was all alone in this world and in her final moments, she wished for someone to accompany her.

As the flame died down, Elena resigned herself to her fate, her eyes drooping as the urge to slumber overtook her senses.

Just as she was about to close her eyes, she heard someone approach her, and then she saw them.

It was an old lady with a twisted appearance and she seemed to be waiting for her death.

Elena managed a smile even as her cheeks bled. "This isn’t over."

And then, she died.

The old lady stepped forward to pick up her corpse only to pause as the little girl’s body disintegrated into tiny golden particles, leaving her confused.

The wolf left after she’d finished picking the flowers, giving her directions to her grandma’s place.

Ana thought nothing of it as she made her way to the hut, quickly arriving after a few minutes of walking.

Excited as she was, she was just about to head for the hut only to pause, though she couldn’t understand why.

However, her mind, as scrambled up as it was, screamed at her to not enter that hut.

But why?... She furrowed her brows as she realized that she’d forgotten something.

It didn’t take long for her breathing to turn heavy as she happened upon a dangerous thought.

Something was messing with her mind, leaving her unable to think properly.

She was being manipulated.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, the door to the hut flung open, and someone stepped out.

She couldn’t quite figure out if it was man or beast because it was completely covered in human clothing.

The clothing was reminiscent of what one would expect an old lady to wear in The Alliance but looking at the build of the individual wearing the cloth was enough for Ana to figure out that they were not an old lady.

Just then, the thing spoke. "Come over here, child, and give your grandma a hug."

"Who are you?... And what have you done to my grandma?" Ana asked in a terrified tone as she took a step back.

"I’m your grandma, silly, now come over here."

"... No."

"Don’t be stubborn, come here now."

"... I don’t want to."

"Damn it you insolent bitch, come over here now!!!"

The thing raised its head, revealing its appearance to be a grotesque mishmash of the wolf shed met earlier and what appeared to be an old lady.

The thing tore off its dress, no longer willing to carry on with its games as it pounced on Ana.

Ana didn’t even hesitate as she tossed the basket she was carrying at the creature before making her way into the forest behind her at full speed.

Victoria remained a mess for several minutes before she was able to calm herself down.

Though the desire remained, she was at least able to maintain coherent thought.

Taking a deep breath, she got back on her feet, intending to head out and look for the others, especially Alex.

But then, a knock at the door snapped her to attention, causing her to raise her guard.

Had the old lady returned to fight?... If that were the case, she definitely couldn’t open the door.

So, she asked for confirmation. "Who’s there?"

Silence followed but just as she was about to ask again, a response came.

"Would you like an apple?"
