Chapter 622: Excalibur
Chapter 622: Excalibur
Alex pondered for a long while before he inquired. "Do you think I am ready to take on the next trial?"
"I’d say no but the conditions are ripe for you to do so."
"So I should take the risk?"
"Indeed. There’s enough time for you to stabilize yourself should the situation call for it."
"Understood," Alex remarked calmly. "So what’s the next trial?"
Adam replied. "Amongst those in the depths of despair, serve as the light that would pull them out, giving them hope of a better tomorrow."
"How is the current situation ripe for such a trial?" Alex inquired, feeling that the perfect opportunity to carry out such a trial was back in Ra’as during the battle against the Abyss that caused the deaths of many.
Adam chuckled. "In truth, you have already performed a great deal to be regarded as having completed the trial, but that was before you were given the trial; hence, though you do not need to start from scratch, it is best that you reinforce your achievements."
"I understand. I’ll get to it then."
"Wonderful."
With that, Alex got to his feet, prepared to leave only for Adam to speak up.
"Also, I’d advise you to be careful."
Alex glanced at Adam with a raised brow. "Why?"
"Henos would be experiencing a great upheaval soon, one that might lead to the deaths of many. I’d advise you to move quickly so you aren’t swept up in things or if you can, try to stop it."
"Is the ascendance of a Demon God that dangerous?" Alex couldn’t help but ask, recalling that the Fixer had given them a similar warning.
Adam snorted. "What do I care about some clown?... I’m speaking about Death."
Alex frowned, noting how Adam didn’t refer to death as a concept, but as an individual.
"Mind explaining what you mean by death?"
"No."
With that, Alex was kicked out of Eden with Adam letting out a sigh as he returned his attention to the beautiful scenery ahead of a blue lake with golden rays cast upon its surface.

Alex opened his eyes to find himself back aboard the submarine.
Letting out a sigh, he sat up in bed, intending to ponder Adam’s warning concerning death, only to sense something at that moment, causing him to shift his attention.
At the same time, Ana barged into his room, battle-ready.
A moment later, a pentagram appeared and out of it, Vessina emerged with a seductive smile on her lips.
"You are here." Alex calmly stated, displaying no worries as he waited for a response.
Ana also relaxed though her wariness remained.
She had sensed the fluctuations in the aether and had immediately tracked it to Alex’s room, causing her to worry that something was trying to attack him in his sleep.
Indeed and I come bearing gifts.
As she spoke, she stretched a handout, revealing a sword that radiated an intense aura.
Alex instinctively tensed as he set eyes on it, barely able to maintain calm.
Apart from its lack of bloodlust, it acutely reminded him of the blood-covered sword he’d seen wielded by the corpse of the Immortal King.
"Is that..." Ana trailed off as Vessina replied to Alex.
The Godkiller you asked for. Isn’t it a beauty?
"How come it was finished so soon?" Alex couldn’t help but ask, surprised that such a powerful weapon could be completed so quickly.
Vessina grinned as she replied.
I have my ways.
"Does it have a name?" Ana instinctively asked with Vessina shaking her head.
Its wielder should be the one to name it.
Glancing at Vessina, Alex shifted his attention back to the sword as he got out of bed and approached.
Vessina towered over him by a few meters, casting a shadow as he came to stand at arm’s length from her outstretched hand.
"Is there anything I should know?"
It is incomplete.
"Why?"
I cannot tell.
Alex glanced at Vessina. "That so?"
Unfortunately.
"I see." Nodding in understanding, Alex shifted his attention back to the sword. "Anything else?"
Apart from the ingredients you gave me, it contains something else.
"What’s that?" Ana asked before Alex could, also quite interested in the Godkiller.
It would be her first time coming into contact with such a magnificent weapon only spoken about in stories.
The essence of a Demigod.
Alex frowned. "Which demigod and why?"
The Artisan and as for why, I cannot say.
Alex furrowed his brow as he immediately made some conjectures based on Vessina’s response.
’So she outsourced my work?... Quite scummy.’ He thought to himself as he admired the artwork that was the Godkiller.
It wasn’t too long or too short, with a cross-shaped hilt along with a blade that had its center covered in runes.
"What does it say?" Alex inquired, curious about the runes.
I do not know. Perhaps a deity would be able to decipher it.
"It’s a written version of the Voice deities use to communicate."
Indeed. Unless one is a deity, it is impossible to understand.
"I see," Alex muttered as he inspected it one last time.
Then, he took another step forward and reached out to grab the hilt of the sword.
The sword felt cold to the touch, almost like taking a plunge in an ice bath, causing Alex to feel quite a bit of discomfort with his palm quickly going numb.
Instinctively, he dropped the sword and retracted his palm.
Be careful; it’s quite cold to the touch.
Alex didn’t even bother with a response as he tore some material from his bedspread, using it as a makeshift cover which he then utilized to grab the sword.
It still felt cold but not so bad that he’d have to drop it.
He made a mental note to make use of gloves from now henceforth.
Swinging it a few times, it quickly became clear that Alex was an absolute novice at swordplay which was understandable since he was from a world where guns and knives were more commonplace.
Regardless, he only needed to use it to cut things so he didn’t think learning sword fighting was a necessity.
With that understanding, he began to pinpoint ways in which he could infuse it into his usual fighting style.
Just then, Vessina spoke up.
As it is, it is merely an extremely sharp sword that can cleave Quillion in half.
Ana furrowed her brows. "Isn’t Quillion the strongest material in Eventide?"
Ignoring her question, Vessina remarked.
Its true strength lies in the runes. Only when they are activated would the sword become a true Godkiller capable of killing all things conceptual.
"Aren’t you scared I’d use it on you?" Alex inquired with Vessina shrugging.
My pride wouldn’t let me consider such a scenario.
It was perhaps the first time Vessina admitted to being a bit too arrogant.
"How do I activate the runes?" Alex asked.
You bestow a name upon it. So whenever you call out that name, the sword is activated.
"I see," Alex muttered as he stared at the sword in his hand, pondering on the best name for it.
A few cheesy names came up, but eventually, he decided to settle on one that was less cheesy but still gave off a sense of power.
"I shall name you... Excalibur."
