How I Became The Devil's Last and Only Love -
Chapter 97: The First Wife Isn’t Dead
Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The First Wife Isn’t Dead
Li Xiaoxiao suddenly left, and Fang Anning also lost her appetite.
After the fans downstairs had mostly dispersed, she planned to leave as well.
However, just as she reached the lobby, she encountered a woman with a tall figure and an elegant and dignified demeanour with long hair.
The woman looked at her and smiled slightly, taking the initiative to ask, "Are you Miss Fang Anning?"
Fang Anning looked at her in confusion: "Do we know each other?"
The woman smiled and said, "I know you, but you may not know me. Allow me to introduce myself, my surname is Qi, Qi Wenli."
Qi Wenli?
Fang Anning frowned; the name sounded somewhat familiar.
Just now, Fang Anning’s bag was forgotten, so Mrs. Chen went back to the private room to fetch it.
By the time she came back with the bag and caught up, she suddenly saw Qi Wenli and exclaimed in surprise, "What are you doing here?"
"Mrs. Chen, long time no see," Qi Wenli greeted with a smile.
Mrs. Chen immediately put on a stern face and coldly said, "I thought I’d never see you again in this lifetime, yet here you are. Wife, let’s go!"
Fang Anning’s brows furrowed.
Who exactly was this woman?
To make Mrs. Chen this repulsed.
"Miss Fang, there’s no need to rush off. Let’s find a place to sit down and talk," Qi Wenli said.
Mrs. Chen immediately replied coldly, "That won’t be necessary. Our wife has many things to do and has no time to talk with you."
"What, afraid I’ll tell her about He Tingchen?" Qi Wenli sneered.
Mrs. Chen cursed angrily, "How dare you still mention our sir’s name?"
Fang Anning watched the two argue, initially clueless about who Qi Wenli was.
But now, hearing Qi Wenli mention Mrs. Chen’s name and Mrs. Chen’s agitated reaction, she suddenly thought of someone.
But wasn’t it said that this person had died long ago?
Fang Anning looked at Qi Wenli in shock.
Then she suddenly thought about He Tingchen’s sudden reconciliation with the Qi family; could it be because she wasn’t dead?
"Mrs. Chen, let me talk to Miss Qi for a bit; I’m curious about some things too," Fang Anning called to Mrs. Chen.
Mrs. Chen immediately said, "Wife, what is there for you to talk about with her? You’re not even acquainted with her."
"How can we not be acquainted," Fang Anning looked at Qi Wenli and chuckled, "after all, she is my predecessor."
Qi Wenli was taken aback and then laughed it off, "I didn’t expect you to guess it. Did you figure it out yourself, or did he tell you?"
"Where shall we talk? I’m full and can’t eat anything else," Fang Anning said.
Qi Wenli pointed to a spot by the window in the lobby and said, "Just over there! I guess if we were to look for a private room, Mrs. Chen would be the first to object."
"Alright, let’s talk there," Fang Anning walked over.
Mrs. Chen was extremely anxious, but as Fang Anning would not listen to her, there was nothing she could do.
She had no choice but to call He Tingchen and tell him about her encounter with Qi Wenli.
Anning didn’t care about her reporting the incident, because by the time He Tingchen arrived, she had already asked all the questions she wanted to.
Of course, that was assuming Qi Wenli was willing to tell her.
"How come you’re not dead?" The first thing Anning asked was blunt and to the point.
Qi Wenli smiled and said, "Has Miss Fang always been so direct? No wonder you were able to stand by his side for over a month."
"I would have lasted much longer, and there’s no need for Miss Qi to worry about that. Now back to the question, how come you’re not dead?" Anning asked again.
Qi Wenli said, "It was a feigned death. It was my family that arranged my marriage with He Tingchen, but I didn’t like him. I had never even seen him, so how could I be willing to marry him? Plus, at that time, I was in love with someone else. We tried to elope twice but failed both times. My father detained that man and threatened me, forcing me to marry He Tingchen. Only after marrying into the He family did I realize that he didn’t wish to marry me either. So the two of us worked together to fake my death. He could avoid marrying me, and I could run away with the man I loved—it was a win-win situation."
"Heh, so that’s how it was." Anning laughed in disbelief.
All these stories about being a wife-killing demon and King of Hell, it was all just him deliberately ruining his own reputation. To make women avoid him like the plague, and not dare to marry him casually.
"Why? Why did he do that?" Anning couldn’t understand.
If he just didn’t like Qi Wenli, he could have simply divorced her and turned her away.
But instead, he allowed her to fake her death, which was essentially deliberately ruining his own reputation. Perhaps, it was the same with the other women that followed.
And when someone deliberately insists on something, it’s not without reason—there must be another explanation.
"I don’t know. I asked him about it at the time, but he didn’t tell me anything," Qi Wenli replied.
Anning nodded.
Thinking of He Tingchen’s temperament, he indeed didn’t seem like someone who would tell Qi Wenli.
"Then why are you looking for me today? Is it because He Tingchen, in order to resolve his issue with the Qi family, betrayed you, so you came to trouble me?" Anning asked.
Now she understood why the Qi family was willing to resolve their feud with He Tingchen.
Qi Wenli didn’t die, so naturally, there was no feud between the Qi family and He Tingchen, and what couldn’t be resolved?
"No," Qi Wenli said. "I should thank him for giving me a reason to return home. In fact, these ten years I’ve spent outside have not been pleasant. That man who claimed to love me, I only realized how difficult life was after we actually ran away together. When a couple is poor, they face endless sorrows, and as both of us were busy with our livelihood, love was just like leftover rice on our clothes. We broke up in less than three years. I promised He Tingchen I wouldn’t come back, and I had no face to come back. Being able to return to Yun City this time, I’m truly grateful to him."
Anning: "..."
She didn’t know what to say!
A young lady’s elopement for love, ending up in such a situation, was truly lamentable!
"Condolences, you still have the chance to start over, and that’s already very fortunate," Anning awkwardly consoled her.
Qi Wenli chuckled and said, "Though these ten years have been tough, it hasn’t been entirely worthless. At least, it helped me understand one principle."
"Oh, then congratulations to you," Anning said.
Qi Wenli asked, "Don’t you want to know what principle?"
Anning laughed lightly and said, "You’ve tasted the bitterness of life to realize that principle, how could I shamelessly reap the benefits of your experience?"
"It doesn’t hurt to tell you," Qi Wenli said. "The principle I’ve realized is that one must be practical. Never be blinded by so-called ethereal illusions; one has to hold onto tangible things, such as power or status. Once you have those, the so-called love, family ties, and friendships naturally follow."
"Miss Qi has a point, so what about it?" Anning asked.
Why was she telling her all this?
To go out of her way to come to her, she wasn’t just here to be a life coach and share these things, right?
"So, I came to tell Miss Fang. I deeply regret my past choices. Fortunately, I still have the chance to make a different choice again. I want to go back to being by He Tingchen’s side, to continue being Mrs. He."
