Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Running into an Acquaintance at the Exam
Fang Anning finally got He Tingchen’s permission to go to school for the exam.
So early in the morning, Fang Anning had Mrs. Chen prepare breakfast, and after eating, she asked Mrs. Chen to accompany her to school.
For safety reasons, Mrs. Chen also arranged for three bodyguards to follow.
"Who is this? So much pomp."
"It’s said to be a daughter from a wealthy family who hasn’t been attending classes, and teachers have been going to her place for private tutoring."
As soon as Fang Anning entered, she was talked about because of the large entourage.
The students taking the exam were all from her grade level, and she hadn’t attended classes for two years, so most didn’t recognize her.
Fang Anning heard people whispering nearby but didn’t mind and sat down to prepare for the exam.
During the exam, Mrs. Chen couldn’t stay here, after all, there are rules in the examination room.
"Miss, I’ll go out first and wait outside. Call me if you need anything." Mrs. Chen whispered in Fang Anning’s ear.
Fang Anning nodded, telling her to leave quickly.
Once Mrs. Chen left, the students’ whispered voices grew louder.
One of them, who used to be in the same class as Fang Anning, stared at her for a long time before recognizing her.
Surprised, she asked, "Are you Fang Anning?"
Fang Anning turned her head and glanced at her, a girl with glasses and a round face.
She nodded and said, "Yes, do you know me?"
"We were in the same class before, have you forgotten?" the girl said.
Fang Anning gave an awkward smile, "Sorry, I haven’t been to class for over two years, I don’t quite remember."
"It’s okay if you don’t remember, I remember you, I’m Qi Yaya." The round-faced girl said with a smile.
Fang Anning was surprised; this was Qi Yaya?
"Quiet please, the exam is starting."
At this moment, the invigilator entered with the test papers and loudly scolded everyone to be quiet.
Suddenly, the previously noisy classroom became silent.
Qi Yaya also stuck out her tongue at Fang Anning, mouthed "do well on the exam," then sat down and waited for the papers to be distributed.
The teacher quickly handed out the test papers, and everyone picked up their pens to seriously start answering.
An hour later, the teacher came to collect the test papers.
Fang Anning, after all, had fallen two years behind, although she had tutors come to her home, she still couldn’t keep up with the progress.
She wrote as fast as she could, barely managing to finish her test at the last minute before the papers were collected.
"That’s it, I’m turning in my paper." Fang Anning breathed a sigh of relief, handing her paper to the teacher.
Qi Yaya ran over to her with a smile and said, "Didn’t expect you to still come to school; really happy to see you."
Fang Anning now remembered who Qi Yaya was.
When they first entered university, Qi Yaya liked to hang around her, a cheerful and lively girl. She clearly came from a well-off family, growing up happy and blessed.
Her classmates all admired her, and Fang Anning was no exception.
When she had to take a leave of absence, Qi Yaya even hugged her and cried sadly.
"I remember you now, sorry, I have a bad memory, please don’t be mad," Fang Anning hurriedly said.
Qi Yaya shook her head and said, "It’s okay, it’s been so long, it’s normal to forget. But when you took your leave, I told you to come see me whenever you had time, and you never came to find me."
"Sorry, I was too busy before, I really didn’t have time," Fang Anning quickly apologized.
The main reason she didn’t recognize Qi Yaya wasn’t really because of her poor memory, but because Qi Yaya had changed so much compared to before.
Back then, Qi Yaya was very chubby, with a round face and round body, especially cute.
After not seeing each other for two years, she had slimmed down significantly, her face still round but her body was much thinner, giving her the refined look of a young girl.
So, when she saw her again, she couldn’t recognize her as Qi Yaya.
Although she had promised to visit, her mother needed a huge sum for medical expenses and she was busy working day in and day out. Without a place to live, she found the cheapest place to hunker down—how could she find the time to visit?
Moreover, she dared not come to the school.
Even passing by the school’s entrance, seeing the students leaving, made her heart ache.
"By the way, how is your mom?" Qi Yaya asked.
Fang Anning replied, "She’s being treated, and things are improving."
"That’s good to hear," Qi Yaya said happily.
At that moment, Mrs. Chen walked in with a thermos, glanced suspiciously at Qi Yaya, and offered Fang Anning, "Here, drink some water!"
"Thank you!" Fang Anning gratefully accepted.
After drinking, she handed the cup back to Mrs. Chen.
Mrs. Chen then asked, "Are you hungry? Want something to eat?"
"No need, I have another exam later. Eating too much might cloud my thinking," Fang Anning responded.
Mrs. Chen seemed to want to say more but ultimately remained silent and awkwardly left.
"Anning, who was that person just now?"
As soon as Mrs. Chen left, Qi Yaya curiously approached Fang Anning.
Fang Anning felt awkward, unsure of how to explain.
Fortunately, the proctor arrived for the next exam.
After the two exams, Mrs. Chen came in to urge Fang Anning to go home.
"The sir said you should go home right after the exam, don’t linger outside," Mrs. Chen whispered softly.
"I know," Fang Anning replied.
But then, Qi Yaya came over, smiling at Fang Anning, "Anning, it’s been a long time. Let’s have lunch together?"
Fang Anning looked at Mrs. Chen.
Before Fang Anning could respond, Mrs. Chen rejected Qi Yaya, "I’m sorry, Miss, but she needs to go home early."
"Ah, can’t we even have a meal together?" Qi Yaya pouted.
"No," Mrs. Chen firmly said.
Just then, another classmate called for Qi Yaya, and she said to Fang Anning, "Next time, let’s have lunch together next time."
Fang Anning smiled lightly and waved her hand.
Once Qi Yaya had left, Fang Anning said to Mrs. Chen, "You were too harsh just now, she’s just a little girl."
"Ah, was I? It wasn’t too harsh, I thought I was quite gentle," Mrs. Chen awkwardly commented.
Fang Anning shook her head and chose not to argue.
After the exams, she felt relieved; although she didn’t know how well she did, she figured passing shouldn’t be too bad.
Yet, the thought of merely passing made her feel sad.
She used to be one of the top students.
It was disheartening that now she could only hope to barely pass.
"I’ll have Chen Rui bring the car around."
Mrs. Chen helped her downstairs and quickly reached for her phone to call Chen Rui.
He had driven here earlier, but since Fang Anning had exams all morning and parking was limited on campus, Chen Rui had driven the car out to avoid occupying a space unnecessarily.
