Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Mr. He, I’m Pregnant
The driver was still shaken and quickly reported to He Tingchen, "Mr. He, it was Miss Fang who stopped the car."
He Tingchen looked ahead, his sharp gaze piercing through the car window and lingered on Fang Anning.
Fang Anning herself was also terribly frightened. If the driver hadn’t hit the brakes in time, she likely would’ve been done for right there and then.
Hence, she was now taking deep breaths, her face pale. Her panic-stricken eyes met with He Tingchen’s, a wave of heart palpitations ensued, but she still tried to maintain a strong front as she met his stare.
"Drive past," He Tingchen commanded coldly.
The driver hesitated for a moment, then wound down the window and said to Fang Anning, "Miss Fang, please step aside, or I’ll have to drive through."
Fang Anning quickly pleaded, "Please tell Mr. He that I have something to discuss with him, I beg him to give me a chance."
"Drive," the man coldly rebuked again.
The driver had no choice but to start the car and pressed on the gas pedal to move forward.
Fang Anning didn’t expect the driver would actually dare to drive forward. Instinctively, she dodged and could only watch helplessly as He Tingchen’s car drove back towards his home.
However, the gate was open, and she immediately rushed in.
But the He family’s bodyguards surged forward, pushing her out and closed the gate.
Fang Anning banged on the door furiously, shouting, "He Tingchen, I beg you to give me a chance to talk to you, please."
But no one paid attention to her.
Fang Anning steeled her heart and shouted louder, "If you refuse to see me, I won’t leave, not until you agree to meet me."
Still, no one paid attention to her.
Indeed, when one’s luck is down, even a sip of cold water will wedge between the teeth.
Suddenly, a thunderclap resounded in the sky.
Soon after, a heavy rain started to fall with an urgency that rivaled Er Yuehong’s plea for medicine.
Very quickly, Fang Anning was drenched to the bone.
Nevertheless, she stubbornly stayed put at the doorway, waiting for He Tingchen to see her.
At this moment, in the study, He Tingchen stood on the balcony quietly observing the drifting rain outside.
From his position, he could not see the scene at the gate and was thus unaware whether Fang Anning had left or not.
"Knock knock knock."
"Come in."
Mrs. Chen opened the door and came in, serving him a cup of tea.
"Sir, she hasn’t left. She’s still standing at the gate," Mrs. Chen tentatively ventured.
He Tingchen’s gaze was deep, and he remained silent.
Mrs. Chen pursed her lips, not daring to speak any further.
After setting down the tea, she picked up the tray and turned to leave.
However, as she reached the door, the man suddenly spoke leisurely, "Let her in."
Mrs. Chen was delighted and quickly replied, "Alright, I’ll call her in right away."
When she got downstairs, Mrs. Chen hurriedly took an umbrella and went outside, opened the main gate, and seeing Fang Anning shivering from the downpour, said, "Come in! The master has allowed you in."
Fang Anning looked at Mrs. Chen blankly; she was nearly drenched senseless!
Seeing that she was motionless, Mrs. Chen quickly walked up to her with the umbrella and said, "Are you stunned from the rain? The master is letting you in. Do you want to come in or not?"
"Enter, of course, enter," Fang Anning finally reacted and eagerly nodded her head.
She followed Mrs. Chen inside, and upon entering, water pooled on the floor.
The air conditioning was on in the house, making her even colder. She couldn’t help but hug herself tighter, her lips turning white and she trembled non-stop.
He Tingchen was sitting quietly on the sofa, watching her.
Fang Anning pinched herself hard to force herself to calm down, so she wouldn’t shiver to the point of being unable to speak.
"Do you have a matter to discuss?" the man spoke first.
Fang Anning nodded and tremblingly told him about Lu Tianyu’s incident.
"Mr. He, I know... you’re incredibly resourceful. Please... help me." Fang Anning pleaded with a trembling voice.
"Why should I help you?" the man asked.
Fang Anning bit her lips. Yes, He Tingchen had no reason to help her.
To spare her life had already been a special grace, so how could he help someone like her?
"I know... you have no reason, and I have no reason... to ask for your help. But other than you, I don’t know... who else to turn to." Fang Anning said in a low voice.
After she finished speaking, she remembered her inheritance and hurriedly added, "As long as you... are willing... to help me, I don’t want any of those inheritances. You can have it all."
"Do you think I would care about those trinkets?" the man asked mockingly.
Fang Anning’s head lowered even more: "I know you don’t care, but other than those, I have nothing."
"Knowing that you have nothing, you shouldn’t have come here. Mrs. Chen, throw her out."
He Tingchen stood up and instructed Mrs. Chen to throw out the person.
"Mr. He, I beg you to help me. Please help me, okay? Otherwise, someone really will die."
Mrs. Chen, along with two maids, came over to throw Fang Anning out, who struggled while pleading with He Tingchen.
But He Tingchen ignored her and walked straight upstairs.
Fang Anning was too anxious. Just as she was about to be thrown out, she suddenly had a flash of inspiration and shouted desperately, "Mr. He, I’m pregnant. I’m carrying your child."
Mrs. Chen and the rest were startled and quickly let go of her.
The air instantly froze, silent and terrifying.
He Tingchen also stopped in his tracks and coldly turned to look at her.
"Really?" the man asked coldly.
Fang Anning shuddered with fear and quickly lowered her head, biting her lip fiercely.
She had really gone mad, how could she say such a thing?
"Miss Fang, our master is asking if what you said is true?" Mrs. Chen also eagerly pressed.
"Yes, it’s true." Fang Anning said guiltily.
To die would be to die, as long as He Tingchen was willing to help her and rescue Lu Tianyu, she could die to atone for the lie!
Mrs. Chen’s face lit up with joy, and she immediately turned to He Tingchen happily: "Sir, she says it’s true. Oh no, she’s all wet, she mustn’t get sick. Hurry and change your clothes."
"Have her change clothes." He Tingchen’s eyes darkened as he ordered.
Mrs. Chen immediately agreed and quickly pulled Fang Anning to take a bath and change.
Fearing she would catch a cold and daring not to give her medicine, as soon as she finished bathing and changing, they immediately served her a bowl of ginger soup to drink.
After drinking the ginger soup, Fang Anning’s entire body relaxed.
Of course, by then her brain had also become more agile, and she finally remembered the lie she had just told.
But the lie had already been told, what could she do now?
She took another big gulp of ginger soup, so spicy that her eyes reddened.
At the moment, there was no good solution; she had to continue lying thick-skinned.
"Call Dr. Li to come and give her a medical examination," He Tingchen suddenly commanded.
"Okay, I’ll call Dr. Li right away," Mrs. Chen said joyfully.
She hurriedly turned to make a call to Dr. Li, now eager to tell the old master. But then she thought it better to wait until Dr. Li confirmed it before informing the old master.
"An... examination?"
Fang Anning raised her head, asking with a pale face.
He Tingchen’s gaze was profound as he looked at her.
Fang Anning swallowed hard.
She was doomed; how had she forgotten there would be a checkup?
This wasn’t like a TV drama where she could just say she was pregnant and it would be so. Not all in-laws are naive sweethearts willing to blindly believe her words!
