How I Became The Devil's Last and Only Love -
Chapter 39: Just Three Hundred Million
Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Just Three Hundred Million
Anning Fang reluctantly followed Liao Hanfeng back.
Actually, she couldn’t care less whether He Tingchen would get angry or not.
Wasn’t she still angry?
After great difficulty and scheming, she had wrestled the inheritance rights from Zhou Zhaoguo’s hands, but before she could even take a good look at it, He Tingchen had snatched it away.
No wonder the He family had become the wealthiest in Yun City; their wealth must have been accumulated through trickery and deceit.
"Sad?"
When Anning Fang and the others returned, sure enough, He Tingchen had already come back.
Seeing her sulking and unhappy face, he reached out to pinch her cheek and asked.
Anning Fang quickly dodged and glared at him resentfully, but she didn’t dare to voice those words after all.
This was in the United States, where she was a stranger in a strange land. If he killed her here, she would truly die in a foreign country.
"Angry," the man quickly understood the reason for her sulking.
"No," Anning Fang argued in a low voice.
He Tingchen said, "It seems you know about the inheritance being handled by Wen Yi."
"That was left for me by my great-aunt," Anning Fang couldn’t hold back and said with a sense of grievance.
The man said, "I know, but you don’t currently have the capability to manage those assets properly. I had Wen Yi take care of it for you, thinking of your best interests."
Thinking of my best interests my ass!
Anning Fang cursed internally, never having heard of anyone claiming to act in the interests of another by taking their money. He Tingchen was truly the thickest-skinned, most shameless person she had ever met.
"But just a mere three billion, you think I’d covet this little amount of money?" the man scoffed coldly.
Anning Fang swallowed hard.
Just a mere three billion?
She could now be sure that this guy wanted to swallow her assets. Who wouldn’t be tempted by three billion? Even He Tingchen would be tempted, wouldn’t he?
"It seems you still don’t trust me. Wen Yi, show it to her," He Tingchen said with a cold face.
Wen Yi quickly brought over a thick stack of documents and introduced them one by one to Anning Fang.
The inheritance left by Zhou Xueqin consisted, apart from a villa in the United States, of entirely stocks and funds. She had been charitable and kind all her life, didn’t leave much cash, and wasn’t fond of buying luxury goods or collectibles. These stocks and funds were left to her by her later husband, and she had barely touched them.
Now they were all left to Anning Fang, but the financial situation this year wasn’t good. Aside from the villa that could sell for a billion, the stocks and funds were unstable assets.
Anning Fang had never had even $1,000 in her hands, let alone dealt with stocks and funds.
So, looking at all these documents, she was completely clueless about what to do.
"It’s alright if the madam doesn’t understand, I have specially entrusted a fund manager to take care of these. He will handle everything for you," Wen Yi said respectfully after she finished looking.
Anning Fang gave an awkward smile as she nodded.
Who would have thought that the inheritance she schemed to get from Zhou Zhaoguo would turn out to be this?
Although the villa was valuable, she couldn’t sell it. Moreover, with a price but no market, there were probably very few who could afford it.
All things considered, there really wasn’t anything of substantial value.
"Still angry?" He Tingchen asked.
Anning Fang showed a sheepish smile and hastily said, "I’m sorry, I was wrong."
The man snorted coldly, his dark eyes growing even more inscrutable.
Anning Fang pursed her lips, seeing that he was truly angry, and quickly tried to placate him, "I’m sorry, please don’t hold the grudge against me, don’t lower yourself to argue with a mere girl. You see, you’re so mature, you can’t possibly stay mad at a little girl like me!"
"Little girl? Little girls don’t have doubts about me," He Tingchen’s long fingers glided across her smooth cheek.
Fang Anning chuckled again, a smile in her eyes as she said, "I’m not suspecting you, I never once said that I doubted you."
"Flattery and deceit."
He Tingchen snorted coldly, rapping his finger heavily against her forehead.
"Ah."
Fang Anning quickly covered her forehead with her hand, looking up at him with an injured expression.
He Tingchen stood up and said, "Get ready, you’re attending a banquet with me tonight."
"Ah, a banquet?" Fang Anning was surprised, "What banquet?"
The man left without paying her any attention.
Wen Yi said, "Madam, please follow me. Your gown is prepared, and the makeup artist is waiting for you."
Fang Anning furrowed her brow; he was making her attend a banquet without telling her anything. What did he think of her, a decoration?
However, it wasn’t until she was at the banquet that she understood she truly was just a decoration.
He Tingchen’s decoration.
She walked in arm in arm with He Tingchen, dressed in a white off-the-shoulder gown, her makeup delicate and perfect, a diamond tiara atop her head. Standing beside him, she looked elegant and noble; none of the guests recognized her, and when someone greeted them, she only responded with a slight smile. Wasn’t she just the most luxurious decoration?
"I’m hungry, can I go have something to eat?"
Fang Anning had been by He Tingchen’s side the whole time, and many people had come up to greet him. It seemed that there were quite a few people here who knew He Tingchen. Her face was stiff from smiling, and she took advantage of a moment when there were fewer people to quietly ask him.
The man nodded slightly, "Go ahead."
Fang Anning felt like she had received a pardon and quickly let go of He Tingchen’s arm to leave.
Upon arrival, she’d noticed an array of delicious foods on the west side, all part of a buffet.
It wasn’t that she wanted to take advantage; she was simply too hungry.
After returning, she had been busy changing and applying makeup, trying not to show her belly. When she mentioned her hunger during makeup, the makeup artist, crazily enough, only allowed her half a glass of water, not sparing even a single biscuit.
Her waist was now very slender, but her stomach was protesting.
If she didn’t eat something soon, she feared she wouldn’t be able to stop her stomach from rumbling, which would be even more embarrassing.
"Are you Mr. He’s wife?"
Fang Anning had just put an exquisite pastry into her mouth, savoring the taste with her eyes closed, when she suddenly heard someone speaking to her.
She hurriedly swallowed and turned around, only to see a very beautiful mixed-race woman standing before her. And indeed, she was mixed-race.
Actually, at this banquet, most of the guests were blond-haired and blue-eyed foreigners, with only the occasional Asian face to be seen.
But this woman was clearly mixed-race and stunningly gorgeous.
She had never seen such a good-looking mixed-race beauty in real life.
"Yes, I am Mr. He’s wife, may I ask who you are?" Fang Anning asked politely.
The mixed-race beauty had spoken in Chinese, thankfully, as her English was not very good.
"My name is Bai Yunzhu, the heiress of Bai Group," the mixed-race beauty replied arrogantly.
"Oh, so you’re Miss Bai," Fang Anning said, feigning a look of sudden realization.
In truth, she had no idea what Bai Group was about, nor who Bai Yunzhu was.
"I’ve heard that you are the illegitimate daughter of the Zhou family?" Bai Yunzhu asked arrogantly.
Fang Anning frowned upon hearing this, displeased. What did she mean by the Zhou family’s illegitimate daughter?
Now she realized, this girl hadn’t come to make friends; she had come to insult her.
"Miss Bai, I’m not sure where you’ve heard such rumors, but wise people are said to stop rumors. You possess beauty, Miss Bai, but I hope your intellect keeps pace."
