How I Became The Devil's Last and Only Love -
Chapter 38: Seizing Her Inheritance
Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Seizing Her Inheritance
Fang Anning lay on the bed, half dead, her stomach growling from hunger, but she was too lazy to move.
Yesterday, she thought she was going to die!
It was only yesterday that she realized how gentle He Tingchen had been the first time.
Indeed, mustering all her strength to get out of bed and head to the bathroom for a shower, she stared at the blue and red marks on her body in the mirror, looking as if she had been tortured. Fang Anning was even more convinced that He Tingchen was a pervert.
She wondered how many of his previous conquests had been tormented to death by him.
If she couldn’t escape soon, she too would possibly meet her demise.
"Beautiful, did you sleep well last night?"
When Fang Anning went out to look for food, she unexpectedly ran into Liao Hanfeng in the hotel restaurant.
Fang Anning rolled her eyes at him and quickly grabbed some food to fill her stomach.
However, Liao Hanfeng shamelessly took a seat opposite her and said with a smile, "I heard that you inherited Ms. Zhou Xueqin’s estate. You’re quite the little rich woman now."
"What’s it to you?" Fang Anning retorted rudely.
Liao Hanfeng said speechlessly: "Why do you resort to swearing all the time? Hmph, you only dare to talk to me like this. Would you dare to say this to Young Mr. He?"
"Of course not," Fang Anning admitted openly.
Liao Hanfeng gritted his teeth and said, "The petty and women are the hardest to raise. You’re just a woman who bullies the weak and fears the strong."
"Yes, I bully the weak and fear the strong," Fang Anning said without guilt: "So stay away from me in the future, or else I’ll want to bully you every time I see you."
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Young Mr. He?" Liao Hanfeng asked angrily.
Fang Anning said, "I’m not scared, because between you and me, he will definitely side with me."
Liao Hanfeng: "..."
"Boring, I can’t be bothered to argue with you. But, now that you’ve inherited the estate, the person is dead, don’t you plan to attend the funeral to pay your respects?" Liao Hanfeng added.
Fang Anning was startled, her fork dropping onto the table.
"Who did you say died?"
"Who else could it be? Obviously, the person who left you the inheritance," Liao Hanfeng said.
Fang Anning hurriedly took out her phone, indeed, there were several missed calls.
She immediately dialed back, and the person on the other end said, "Miss Fang, finally we’ve reached you. Ms. Zhou passed away yesterday, and according to her last wish, we will be burying her at the cemetery today. If you are available, you might also come to give her the last send-off."
In fact, Zhou Xueqin hadn’t specifically asked for Fang Anning, but the lawyer handling Zhou Xueqin’s will thought it necessary to notify Fang Anning.
Fang Anning’s nose tingled, and she choked up, saying, "I’ll be right there."
She hung up the phone and stood up, ready to leave.
Liao Hanfeng also quickly stood up to follow her, saying, "You’re going to the funeral? Let me take you there."
"No need, I’ll ask Wen Yi to take me," Fang Anning said coldly.
Liao Hanfeng said, "Wen Yi went with Young Mr. He on a task. If he weren’t away, I wouldn’t be here being annoyed by you. Young Mr. He said to take good care of you."
Fang Anning paused in her steps, realizing indeed, Liao Hanfeng hadn’t come to the United States specifically for her, but was here on business.
That’s good, that’s good, such is the way of the King of Hell.
Liao Hanfeng drove her to the cemetery; the lawyer knew she was coming, so he waited a bit before proceeding with the burial.
Zhou Xueqin had led a drifting life, presumably knowing quite a few people.
Yet, there was not a single person at the funeral. If Fang Anning hadn’t come, she really would have left this world alone and destitute.
After the burial ceremony ended, Fang Anning asked the lawyer, "Did my aunt really not have any friends or relatives?"
"Of course not, Ms. Zhou was a very compassionate person, having helped many in need. However, she left a will stating that after her death, no one should be notified. She wanted to leave quietly. Including Miss Fang, she didn’t specifically instruct for you to come. But I felt that at least a relative should be present to send her off, so I notified Miss Fang."
"Thank you!" Fang Anning expressed her gratitude.
The lawyer replied, "You’re welcome. I was also one of the people helped by Ms. Zhou, so it’s only right for me to do these things for her. Additionally, regarding the inheritance, I’ve already handed over all the details to your husband’s assistant."
"What? My husband’s assistant?" Fang Anning exclaimed in surprise.
Initially, her face was filled with grief, but the lawyer’s words blew away all her sorrow, leaving only shock and amazement.
The lawyer nodded, puzzled, "What? Didn’t you ask him to come and handle the transfer with me?"
"Of course not, why would I let him handle my assets?" Fang Anning shouted.
The lawyer explained, "But, the inheritance transfer could only take place yesterday. I couldn’t contact you, so Mr. Wen Yi came with your marriage certificate, claiming he was authorized by you to handle the inheritance. Since you are legally married, I naturally couldn’t refuse."
Fang Anning: "..."
She nearly fainted from shock.
No wonder He Tingchen was so impatient yesterday, exerting so much effort.
Was it all to keep her occupied and out of the way, so he would have the opportunity to eye her inheritance?
Despicable, utterly despicable!
Fang Anning, furious, gritted her teeth and immediately left the lawyer behind.
Liao Hanfeng caught up to her, asking, "Where are you going?"
"What do you think? That bastard He Tingchen, he’s already so rich and yet he swallows my inheritance?"
Fang Anning cursed furiously, not caring if Liao Hanfeng would relay her words to He Tingchen.
Liao Hanfeng, amused by her frenzied state, said, "You curse him like this in front of me, aren’t you afraid I’ll tell him?"
"Go ahead and tell him! Tell him to come see me right now," Fang Anning yelled.
Liao Hanfeng shrugged, "I don’t have the power to make him come immediately. But why are you so angry? He was the one who found the jade cups, and without him, how could you inherit such a huge fortune? He’s just temporarily keeping it for you, not really swallowing your assets. You said it yourself, he’s so rich, does he care about this little money?"
Fang Anning was shocked!
She stepped back with a pale face, like a mantis stalking the cicada, with the oriole behind. She really thought He Tingchen had given her the jade cups and helped her gather information for her benefit.
It turns out that from the beginning, she was just a pawn in He Tingchen’s hands, the foolish little cicada.
"I advise you, just go back and don’t make a fuss. If you really anger him, be careful you might lose even your life," Liao Hanfeng added.
Then he muttered softly, "It wasn’t easy to find someone like you that satisfies him; I don’t want to start adapting to another woman."
"What do you mean adapt to another woman?" Fang Anning asked.
Liao Hanfeng smiled and said, "Never mind, just go back! Maybe Young Mr. He has already returned, and he’ll definitely be angry seeing you not there."
