Chapter 15: The Mask You Took Off

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Mask You Took Off

"Anning, what’s wrong?"

Li Xiaoxiao saw Fang Anning leaning back against the door, looking as if she had seen a ghost, and immediately asked with confusion.

Fang Anning snapped back to reality, and hurriedly responded, "It’s nothing, you stay here and take care of my mom, I’ll be out for a moment."

After saying that, she immediately turned around, opened the door, and stepped out.

Li Xiaoxiao opened the door and looked outside, only to see Fang Anning pushing a man away.

The man had his back to her, and his face was not visible.

However, he seemed rather tall. Judging from his back, his physique appeared to be extremely good.

"Why have you come? Where is your mask?"

Fang Anning pushed the man away, and at the corner, the man angrily turned around and glared at her.

Fang Anning had no choice but to give up the idea of further pushing him away and looked at his face that was so handsome it stirred indignation among gods and men, unable to help but ask out of curiosity.

"You took off the mask," the man said coldly.

Fang Anning’s eyes widened: "So, since I took it off, you haven’t worn it again?"

"If it’s already been taken off, what’s the point in wearing it again?" the man said with a cold voice.

"Let’s not talk about this, what are you doing here?" Fang Anning always felt something was amiss, but she was more concerned about the reason for his presence.

"Your mother, who is also my mother-in-law, I naturally came to visit the sick," the man answered seriously.

Fang Anning: "..."

A chilling shudder erupted.

Visiting the sick is something normal people do, but him? It always feels eerie!

"Is it inconvenient to see her?" He Tingchen asked.

"It’s inconvenient," Fang Anning firmly shook her head.

"Then forget it, go back early," the man said and then turned to leave.

Fang Anning watched him gradually walk further away, heaving a long sigh of relief.

She returned to the hospital room and saw Li Xiaoxiao with arms folded, looking at her with a puzzled face. Fang Anning quickly made an awkward smile and said, "That was He Tingchen just now."

"He Tingchen? What did he come for? Why didn’t you let him in so I could have a look?" Li Xiaoxiao asked in surprise.

Fang Anning replied, "What’s there to see about him, he’s very eccentric. I’m afraid he might... scare you."

"Scaring me is unlikely, just ugly-looking. I haven’t seen an ugly person before, rest assured, I’ll control myself and won’t show any disdain," said Li Xiaoxiao hastily.

Fang Anning shook her head. It wasn’t his looks she was afraid would scare her, but his behavior and actions.

Who knows if He Tingchen might suddenly go crazy and also strangle Xiaoxiao?

To fear and worry over such things, it was alright for her alone to bear it, but there was no need for her family to share the burden.

"Xiaoxiao, I have to go back now. If there’s anything, give me a call. If possible, I will come again tomorrow, the day after tomorrow my mom will be sent to the United States, I’ll try to come over and spend more time with her."

After staying for another half an hour, Fang Anning decided it was time to leave.

Before leaving, He Tingchen had asked her to return home early, it was probably better for her to do so.

Before her mother was sent away, it was best not to anger him.

"Is your phone working now?" Li Xiaoxiao asked.

Previously she had tried to contact her, but failing to reach her had left her anxious.

Fang Anning nodded, "I got my phone back from Old Mr. He today, you can contact me if there’s anything. I’ll try to come tomorrow, see you then."

Li Xiaoxiao nodded, watching her leave with reluctance.

Fang Anning found Chen Rui, who drove her home.

However, although she thought He Tingchen would be waiting for her at home, Mrs. Chen said, "Sir has not come back."

"Not come back?" Fang Anning was surprised.

Mrs. Chen explained, "Sir won’t be home until evening, it’s only noon now, what would he be doing coming back this early?"

Fang Anning: "..."

So was He Tingchen’s phrase about going back early just a courtesy?

"What’s he doing out all day every day, coming home late?" Fang Anning asked Mrs. Chen.

Mrs. Chen said, "How would I know? You should go ask your husband."

"I wouldn’t dare ask him," Fang Anning pouted.

Mrs. Chen smiled and said, "You are the only wife Mr. He acknowledges. I think he treats you differently. You need to take the initiative more, otherwise, when will the agreement with Old Mr. He be realized?"

"You know about that too?" Fang Anning was surprised, her face flushed with embarrassment.

Mrs. Chen said, "Old Mr. He assigned me to keep an eye on you and remind you to complete the task sooner."

"I understand, I’ll try harder," Fang Anning said, feeling irritated.

That night, He Tingchen indeed came home on time.

During dinner, Fang Anning kept sneaking glances at him, wanting to ask but not daring to.

However, He Tingchen kept his head down, eating seriously, without even glancing at her.

After dinner, when they returned to their room, He Tingchen finally spoke before going to bed, "Do you have something to say to me?"

Fang Anning immediately got up from the sofa, resting her chin on the back of it and said, "You’re out early and back late every day, what are you doing?"

"Going to work."

"Going to... work? You go to work?" Fang Anning was surprised.

The man snorted coldly and said, "If I don’t work, who do you think manages the vast He Group?"

Fang Anning pursed her lips.

She truly hadn’t expected that He Tingchen would need to work.

She thought that given his paranoid and manic personality, he would just stay home every day as a rich third generation, enjoying life.

Who would have thought that he would actually need to go to work?

"In the past, they would bring the work to the house. Now, I go to the company myself. What, you don’t want me to go to work?" the man asked.

Fang Anning shook her head, "No, what does it matter to me whether you work or not?"

Whether she wished it or not, what did it matter?

In the darkness, He Tingchen’s eyes were deep and profound.

However, Fang Anning couldn’t see it. So, she didn’t know that he was actually not pleased after hearing her say that.

But Fang Anning suddenly thought, since He Tingchen could go to work, maybe she could go out normally herself?

"Can I... ask you something?" Fang Anning tentatively asked.

"No," the man’s voice was cold as ice.

Fang Anning: "..."

"Shut up and go to sleep," the man said sternly.

Fang Anning pouted.

See, a lunatic is a lunatic, freaking out at the drop of a hat.

He was behaving like a normal person just now, and in a moment, he’s not.

"Fine, let’s sleep."

Fang Anning laid down and curled up, ensuring the blanket wrapped around her completely.

The next morning, when Fang Anning woke up, He Tingchen had already left.

She figured that He Tingchen probably didn’t care whether she went out or not. So, there was no need to ask his permission.

Thus, she had Chen Rui drive her to the hospital.

That day, she stayed out until the evening, returning home just as He Tingchen got back.

Indeed He Tingchen didn’t ask her where she had been or whom she had seen, which made her even bolder.

The next day, after he went to work, she went out and saw Li Xiaoxiao off with her mother and then celebrated with Li Xiaoxiao in the bar, toasting her mother’s opportunity for better treatment.

"Fang Anning? Here to work again?"

The bar owner asked with surprise when he saw her.

Fang Anning held up a finger and waved it, smiling, "I’m not here to work today, I’m here to spend. Two special cocktails, and a free plate of sunflower seeds, please."

"Here to spend? Got money? Settle the bill first, you know our rules here, no credit," the owner extended his hand for Fang Anning to pay up first.
