Chapter 128: Not Thankful Enough
Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Not Thankful Enough
"Sister-in-law, wait a moment, I need to ask you something."
Qi Wenli called out to Zhao Yuanyuan as she was going to get her car in the underground parking garage after He Min’s birthday party had ended.
Qi Yaya had come with Zhao Yuanyuan and stuck her head out of the car asking, "Auntie, what’s up?"
Seeing her there as well, Qi Wenli tossed her own car keys to her and said, "Yaya, you drive my car home. I’ll ride with your mom because I have something to discuss with her."
Qi Yaya looked towards Zhao Yuanyuan.
Zhao Yuanyuan said, "Listen to your auntie and drive her car back first."
"Okay." Qi Yaya obediently nodded.
Qi Wenli got into Zhao Yuanyuan’s car and sat in the passenger seat.
Zhao Yuanyuan started the car and asked, "What did you want to ask me?"
"Let’s drive out first and find a place to stop before we talk. The question I want to ask is quite lengthy, it’s not safe to talk while driving," Qi Wenli said.
Zhao Yuanyuan drove the car out and stopped on a bridge.
She had had a bit of alcohol that evening and needed to get some fresh air.
Leaning against the car, Zhao Yuanyuan said, "Okay, go ahead and ask your question!"
Qi Wenli inquired, "Does the He family have some kind of secret?"
Zhao Yuanyuan was startled, then chuckled and said, "What family doesn’t have its secrets? But how would I know the He family’s secrets?"
"Sister-in-law, let’s not beat around the bush. You know what I’m talking about, right? I heard your conversation with He Min today; you suspect there’s something wrong with the He family."
Zhao Yuanyuan hadn’t expected Qi Wenli to have overheard her conversation with He Min.
Thinking about what she had said to He Min, Zhao Yuanyuan awkwardly explained, "Wenli, hear me out. I’m not saying you’re bad, I just wanted He Min to accept you first. Once Fang Anning is ousted, it won’t be He Min calling the shots regardless. Look at Fang Anning now, she’s by He Tingchen’s side, but He Min still can’t control her."
"I know, sister-in-law, you are doing what’s best for me, planning for me. How could I misunderstand you?" Qi Wenli said with a smile.
Zhao Yuanyuan breathed a sigh of relief, "As long as you don’t misunderstand. You’re the youngest at home, the old master cherishes you, and your brother is also fond of you. As your sister-in-law, I also care a lot about you and hope you can be happy."
"My happiness right now is to reconcile with He Tingchen and remarry him. But since we’re talking about this, sister-in-law, if you have any suspicions about the He family, just speak up. Maybe by piecing together our information, we can come to a conclusion."
Zhao Yuanyuan said, "Actually, there’s no real information. But you know, I’ve known He Min since childhood, we were close friends. Back then, we were both unmarried and young, and often visited each other. However, later on, when her brother got married, she cried a lot. Then, after her brother had a child, I, as her best friend, wanted to visit her nephew, but she refused, which I found strange. Later when she got married and had children, I never saw He Tingchen at any of the banquets. Her brother eventually died in a car accident, and when I went to their house to offer condolences, that was the first time I saw He Tingchen. At the time I could tell his health wasn’t good; he looked ill. At that time, I already had Yaya and was somewhat sensitive about children, so I remembered these things."
"Just because he wasn’t well as a child, doesn’t mean he’s unwell as an adult. Now that he’s grown up and well, it doesn’t prove anything," Qi Wenli said.
Zhao Yuanyuan responded, "Indeed, and that’s what He Min said. But Wenli, as I told you, I already had Yaya back then, and I was sensitive about children. He Tingchen at that time wasn’t just frail like any other child; he seemed to have a congenital deficiency. Moreover, his entire temperament and aura, compared to the coldness now, are completely different."
"So, what are you suspecting?" asked Qi Wenli.
Zhao Yuanyuan said, "I suspect that He Tingchen might have some kind of congenital disease, so they needed a child for his treatment. His current strength is just a facade, the last gasp of a spent force. Otherwise, why would the He family place so much importance on the child in Fang Anning’s belly? If they really wanted an heir, they could easily find a woman to be a surrogate instead of going to all this trouble."
"Your suspicions are completely different from mine," Qi Wenli said.
Zhao Yuanyuan, puzzled, asked, "You have your suspicions too?"
Qi Wenli said, "Although my marriage with He Tingchen lasted only a week, and I stayed at the He family house for just that long, I too sensed something. At that time, I thought I would never return, so I didn’t give it much thought. But now I realize, there is definitely something fishy about the He family."
"What do you mean?" asked Zhao Yuanyuan.
Qi Wenli said, "I suspect that the He family’s old mansion’s backyard is hiding someone, probably a woman. One night, I heard a woman screaming. He Tingchen rushed out wearing a mask, and when he saw me, he lashed out at me. That’s why I was so scared to stay at the He family house and ran away early with that bastard."
"A woman hidden away?" Zhao Yuanyuan furrowed her brow.
Qi Wenli nodded, "I thought sister-in-law knew about this, that’s why I wanted to ask you."
"I’m not aware of this; our thoughts are completely different. The He family is indeed deep waters."
"I was hoping to learn the He family’s secrets to get a hold on He Tingchen, but it seems that’s not possible now," Qi Wenli said, disappointed.
Zhao Yuanyuan advised her, "Actually, you shouldn’t always think about using those tactics. He Tingchen is a man who can be coaxed but not forced. Since you like him and want to remarry him, you should show some humility to beg for his forgiveness. For example, send him some warmth every now and then, and don’t always confront Fang Anning. You know, what you want is He Tingchen’s heart, not to confront Fang Anning."
"But with Fang Anning by his side, he won’t even look at me," Qi Wenli said, frustrated.
Zhao Yuanyuan said, "I think he must also have you in his heart; otherwise, he wouldn’t have kept your matters secret for so long. Plus, you were his first wife, you two must have had feelings. When he married you, he was only eighteen, his first awakening of love; he must have a deep memory."
Qi Wenli, embarrassed, sheepishly said, "But after we got married, I only met him on the first night, and even then he wore a mask and left after seeing me. Nothing ever happened between us."
Zhao Yuanyuan looked at her in surprise.
Qi Wenli, irritated by her gaze, couldn’t help saying, "I know I was capricious back then, I squandered that good marriage. But now I know I was wrong, so I want to make amends."
Zhao Yuanyuan said, "Since nothing ever happened in your first marriage, why do you have feelings for him?"
She had always thought that Qi Wenli wanted to reconcile with He Tingchen because they had once been intimate.
A young couple’s bond is always memorable, which is why Qi Wenli wanted to go back to He Tingchen.
"Because I am Qi Wenli, I am the young lady of the Qi family, how can I live so humiliated and suffocated?" Qi Wenli said with a low voice: "Since I made a mistake, I should correct it in time. Only by returning to He Tingchen’s side can I turn things around."
Zhao Yuanyuan was speechless, not knowing what to say.

Fang Anning woke up and stared blankly at the room for a moment.
She clearly remembered falling asleep in the car, so how did she wake up in bed?
"Ma’am, you’re up."
Fang Anning went downstairs, and Mrs. Chen greeted her with a smile.
Fang Anning nodded, then suddenly remembered something and quickly asked, "It’s already nine o’clock, why hasn’t the teacher come yet?"
Mrs. Chen was taken aback and said, "The teacher isn’t coming today. There are only three days left until the exam, didn’t the teacher say you should review by yourself?"
Only then did Fang Anning suddenly remember that the exam was in three days.
She panicked and hurried back to the study to begin reviewing her books earnestly.
Although He Tingchen assured her that she would get her diploma, she couldn’t pin her hopes entirely on He Tingchen; she still had to make an effort herself.
"Madam, take a break, don’t work too hard."
Mrs. Chen brought in a plate of fruit.
Fang Anning asked her to put down the fruit plate and waved her hand, "Go out, don’t disturb my study."
"But working too hard is bad for your health," Mrs. Chen reminded.
Fang Anning said, "Consider it prenatal education. It’s good."
With no choice, Mrs. Chen had to leave.
After He Tingchen came back, Mrs. Chen complained to him that Fang Anning was neglecting sleep and food to study and was not taking good care of her health.
Mrs. Chen thought He Tingchen would be angry and stop Fang Anning’s behavior.
But to her surprise, He Tingchen was indifferent after hearing it.
Mrs. Chen thought he didn’t understand, so she repeated what she said.
He Tingchen, however, said, "Her body is hers, and she also loves the child in her stomach very much. So, she will manage her own things for the sake of her body and the child. There’s no need for you to worry."
Fang Anning came downstairs for a drink of water and just happened to hear He Tingchen’s words, and she was touched.
Like Mrs. Chen, she thought He Tingchen would only care about her taking care of the child, but she didn’t expect He Tingchen to be willing to understand her.
"Thank you for understanding me." Fang Anning hugged him from behind after he went upstairs, moved.
He Tingchen paused for a moment, then said indifferently, "It’s nothing, you are my wife, so I should understand you."
In the past, whenever she heard He Tingchen say, "You are my wife," she found it laughable.
Had he forgotten about their agreement?
She was merely the mother of his child, giving birth to this child through a legitimate status.
But after giving birth, she was to leave. From then on, they would forget each other in their separate worlds, so how could she be considered a wife?
But today, hearing these words, she was somewhat moved.
She couldn’t help but think to herself, maybe he really regards her as his wife.
"No matter what, I still want to thank you."
Fang Anning let go of him and then smiled.
But as she moved in front of him, this time she tiptoed, hooked his neck, and kissed him.
She intended just a peck and to let go, but then He Tingchen wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Your gratitude isn’t sincere enough, add a little more before it’s acceptable," He Tingchen said.
After saying that, he lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.
