Chapter 106: Constant Surveillance
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Constant Surveillance
Behave? Not likely!
The very next day after He Tingchen left, Fang Anning couldn’t help but feel eager to go out for a stroll.
Though the He family had all kinds of delicious food, you could find whatever you wanted to eat.
But, that was only limited to ingredients.
Mrs. Chen, adhering to the principle of looking out for her, cut down on oil and salt, and spiciness was even more off-limits.
These past few days, she’d been dying for a taste, craving to gorge on at least ten skewers of grilled meat to be satisfied.
"Wife, you promised Mr. He you wouldn’t go out," Mrs. Chen blocked her way.
Fang Anning pleaded, "Mrs. Chen, please let me go out just for a bit, I’ll be right back. I’m really too cooped up; I’ve always been running around outside before, and now suddenly being prevented from leaving the house, I just can’t take it."
"Then you should tell Mr. He," Mrs. Chen said.
Fang Anning grinned and shook her arm, "If I tell Mr. He, he will definitely scold me. I’ll just go out for a bit. You come with me, quiet as spirits, unseen as ghosts, and Mr. He won’t find out."
"Who says I won’t find out?" Suddenly, He Tingchen’s voice rang out.
Fang Anning was startled, and with a raise of both hands exclaimed, "I’m sorry, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have disobeyed."
However, she quickly put her hands down, furrowing her brow and muttered to herself, "That’s not right! He just left the day before yesterday, he couldn’t have returned so quickly."
She hurriedly looked around but couldn’t find He Tingchen anywhere.
If he’s not here, how could his voice be heard?
"Stop looking, I can see you, but you can’t see me," He Tingchen’s voice spoke again, this time with a cold tone.
Fang Anning was startled and immediately looked up.
This time she heard clearly, the sound seemed to come from above.
Above?
Fang Anning looked up to see a black surveillance camera in the upper right corner of the living room.
So it turned out that He Tingchen was watching her through the surveillance and speaking to her through it.
How careless.
Fang Anning was annoyed with herself, how could she have forgotten about the surveillance at home.
He Tingchen connected the surveillance to his phone, monitoring her movements at all times.
"Heh, I was wrong, I won’t think about running away anymore," Fang Anning grinned and looked up, apologizing to the surveillance camera.
After speaking, she quickly scurried upstairs to study diligently.
Looks like she’d have to spend less time in the living room in the future.
Because of the surveillance incident, Fang Anning really calmed down, no longer mentioning going out.
Every day, she diligently studied and ate, and when she passed through the living room, she’d rush, not daring to linger for another minute.
But while she was behaving, He Min, after hearing that He Tingchen was away on business, immediately rushed over.
Fang Anning, knowing that He Min had come over, promptly and warmly invited He Min to sit on the sofa.
He Min originally sat on the sofa on the left, but Fang Anning went over, pulled her up, and made her sit on a different sofa, saying, "Aunt, please sit here, this sofa is more comfortable."
He Min furrowed her brows, looking at the sofa she was now sitting on and the one she had been sitting on, "Aren’t these two sofas the same style?"
"Uh, they are the same style. But just as there are no two identical leaves in the world, naturally there can’t be two sofas that are exactly alike. I think this sofa is more comfortable, so I wanted auntie to sit here," Fang Anning smiled and explained.
Comfort be damned.
It’s just that this sofa is positioned directly in front of the surveillance camera, allowing He Tingchen to see everything more clearly.
In case He Min has any ill intentions towards her, it would be good for He Tingchen to see and speak up for her.
"Sarcastic and arrogant, you are indeed a girl from a humble family, unfit to be presented in high society," He Min sneered mockingly.
Fang Anning smiled and said, "Aunt, your guidance is appreciated. If there is anything I’ve done wrong or improperly, please do not hesitate to instruct me."
"Instructing is not necessary; since I am your elder, it’s my duty to educate you. Your behavior outside recently has been quite an embarrassment to our He family, so I’ve hired a good etiquette teacher for you. Let the teacher properly teach you manners. I’ll also take you out a few times to socialize, to learn how to interact with the ladies of wealthy families, as a gesture of my duty as your elder."
"Aunt, I am truly touched by your kindness. However, it’s not that I don’t want to go with you to learn, but I really can’t go out. Mr. He said not to leave the house," Fang Anning said with a distressed look.
He Min frowned. "Not let you go out?"
Fang Anning nodded, her face innocent as she said, "I too want to go out, but he won’t let me. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Mrs. Chen."
Mrs. Chen came forward and said to He Min, "Mrs. Liao, the master indeed does not permit the wife to go out."
He Min said, "I have already discussed this with the old master, and he has agreed. Tingchen has no reason to disagree. When he comes back, I will explain to him. Today, you will come with me."
With that said, He Min stood up, indicating for Fang Anning to leave with her.
Fang Anning did not resist and obediently stood up, then she said to Mrs. Chen, "Mrs. Chen, you’ve seen it. It’s not that I want to go out, but Aunt instructs me to go out. I mustn’t disobey."
Mrs. Chen didn’t say a word.
She turned around and took the phone to call He Tingchen.
Seeing this, He Min immediately scolded her, "Mrs. Chen, what are you doing? Are you going to tattle to Tingchen?"
"Mrs. Liao, I am merely reporting the situation at home to the master," Mrs. Chen stated plainly.
She made the call promptly; on the other end, He Tingchen, after hearing her report, said coldly, "Give the phone to Aunt."
Mrs. Chen complied, handing the phone to He Min.
Upon answering, He Min hurriedly explained to He Tingchen, "Tingchen, I am doing this for your good, as well as for Fang Anning’s. She is going to be the woman who bears your children, and it’s for the sake of your future children as well. You surely don’t want others to criticize your children for having an ill-mannered mother."
"Who dares to criticize?" He Tingchen asked.
He Min was at a loss for words, and then explained, "I am just guessing, and even if others criticize, they wouldn’t say it to our faces, it’s the secret gossips behind the back that I’m worried about."
"If it’s behind my back, I don’t hear it, and it doesn’t count. I am well aware of what kind of person mine is, Aunt need not trouble herself."
"Do you think Aunt is meddling too much?" He Min, angered, couldn’t help but ask.
He Tingchen actually answered, "Yes."
He Min was close to fury, exclaiming, "Tingchen, I’ve watched you grow up since you were young, and now for an outsider, you actually think I’m meddling?"
"Aunt’s care is always remembered, but that is still no reason for you to meddle in my domestic affairs. Fang Anning cannot go out, there’s no need for discussion," He Tingchen said coldly.
After that, he hung up the phone.
Soon after, a voice came through the surveillance, giving Mrs. Chen a cold order: "Mrs. Chen, show the guest out."
Mrs. Chen immediately replied, "Yes, master."
She looked at He Min with a smile and said, "Mrs. Liao, please."
He Min glared at Fang Anning angrily. What kind of enchantment had this vixen cast on her nephew to make him so completely indifferent to her?
No, she could not let this woman off so easily.
With her here, she was truly about to lose Tingchen.
