Chapter 104: A Hint of Shyness
Chapter 104: Chapter 104: A Hint of Shyness
"I really didn’t hit her, I swear. Although I really wanted to give her a good beating myself, I didn’t."
As soon as Fang Anning got in the car, she started explaining to He Tingchen.
He Tingchen said, "I know."
"You know? You believe me?"
"Why else would I protect you?" He Tingchen retorted.
Fang Anning pursed her lips, thinking he was just defending his own reputation, not wanting someone from his circle to be bullied by outsiders.
"There’s a problem with the surveillance. Since you know I’ve been wronged, you should have the hotel bring out all the surveillance footage for a thorough investigation," Fang Anning said.
If all the surveillance were reviewed, it would definitely reveal the true face of the woman impersonating her, and they could catch her.
"What’s the point of an investigation?" He Tingchen asked.
"Of course to clear my name, to let everyone know that I didn’t do it, that I didn’t hit her, that she framed me on purpose," Fang Anning said.
"Do you really care about what others think?" He Tingchen asked again.
Fang Anning thought for a moment and said, "Not that much, but..."
"If you don’t care that much, then it’s enough that I know you’ve been wronged. There’s no need to explain to others," He Tingchen said.
"But this would make others think that I’m a difficult, capricious, unreasonable person with a violent temper," Fang Anning said.
She guessed that after today, the incident of her ’innocently’ hitting the pitiable Bai Yunzhu would spread throughout Yun City.
After this, who would want to associate with someone like her?
"Isn’t that better? Others won’t dare to provoke you easily then," He Tingchen said.
Fang Anning was speechless.
So that was his plan.
But did he consider that if others were afraid to provoke her, they would also be afraid to befriend her, and she would become someone who everyone fears?
Forget it, there was probably no use explaining it to him.
After all, he himself was someone people feared, so he naturally wouldn’t understand such trivial matters.
"You don’t have to fear anyone when you’re out there," He Tingchen suddenly said gently.
Fang Anning exclaimed, "Ah," and quickly said, "I’m not afraid of anyone."
"Mm, that’s good. Remember, you are the mother of my child. With my protection, no one can bully you," He Tingchen said.
Fang Anning curled her lips in a small smile.
Although she knew he was so protective of her because of the child in her belly.
And with his nature, he has always been one to stand up for his own.
But her heart still felt warm, and she was very happy.
She couldn’t help but laugh and say, "Thank you, I’m really happy that you are so protective of me."
He Tingchen was momentarily taken aback by her sudden gratitude, and looking at the smile in her eyes, he stiffened slightly and said, "Mm, no need for thanks."
Fang Anning curled her lips in a small smile.
Did she just see a hint of shyness on He Tingchen’s face?
Was she seeing things?
"Were you... feeling shy just now?"
"How could that be," He Tingchen immediately denied with a stern face.
"Alright, it must have been my eyes playing tricks," Fang Anning admitted her vision was at fault.
He Tingchen turned away with a dark expression, looking outside.
Fang Anning yawned.
Ever since getting pregnant, not only did she easily get hungry, but she also often felt tired.
After the recent events had caused such a ruckus, now that things had quieted down, she couldn’t help but feel sleepy.
Unintentionally leaning against He Tingchen’s shoulder, she fell asleep.
He Tingchen saw her resting on his shoulder, slightly furrowed his brow, and gently moved her head with his hand, letting her lie more comfortably in his arms.
Of course, Fang Anning didn’t know any of this, let alone that she didn’t wake up even when they got home, as He Tingchen carried her straight in.
At that moment, Mrs. Chen was startled upon seeing this and thought something had happened to Fang Anning.
It was only after she learned that Fang Anning was asleep that she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Ma’am, you’re awake; breakfast is ready."
In the morning, when Fang Anning came downstairs, Mrs. Chen greeted her with a beaming smile.
Fang Anning nodded and walked towards the dining table.
After breakfast, Mrs. Chen promptly had someone clean up and still watched her with a smile in her eyes.
Fang Anning finally felt something was amiss and couldn’t help but ask, "Why are you looking at me like that? Mrs. Chen, you’re acting very strange today."
"Me? Not at all!" Mrs. Chen hastened to deny.
"Yes, you are. What is it all about?" insisted Fang Anning.
Mrs. Chen said with a smile: "It’s nothing, I was just happy to see the master carrying you back home yesterday. Ma’am, the master has never treated anyone this well before; you should cherish it and not disappoint him."
"Ah, he carried me back?" Fang Anning was surprised.
"Yes, ma’am. You were asleep, and the master carried you back," Mrs. Chen responded.
Fang Anning’s face turned red.
Good heavens, was she a pig?
Not even knowing she had been carried back after getting out of the car, when did she start sleeping so soundly?
"Ma’am, the master is so good to you; please don’t ever let him down." Mrs. Chen cautioned her once again.
"Alright, alright, I’ll remember that." Fang Anning hurriedly agreed.
This Mrs. Chen was really devoted to He Tingchen, she cared more than even He Min did.
Speaking of He Min, she seemed to have seen her at the banquet yesterday.
It was strange, why didn’t she come to provoke her? Maybe she had a change of heart?
"Ma’am, Mrs. Liao is here," a servant came to report.
Fang Anning’s expression stiffened, thinking that it was a case of speak of the devil and he shall appear.
Why did she suddenly come over?
"Good morning, Aunt," Fang Anning greeted with a smile.
Regardless, He Min was He Tingchen’s aunt, and she had to be respectful when she saw her.
He Min nodded and asked with an air of superiority, "You really made quite the scene yesterday, ensuring everyone knows you’re Tingchen’s wife."
So she came because of yesterday’s event.
She had always quite liked Bai Yunzhu and supported Bai Yunzhu in pursuing He Tingchen. After the humiliation Bai Yunzhu suffered at her hands yesterday, how could she remain indifferent?
Fang Anning responded with a smile: "Aunt, you jest. I am Tingchen’s wife to begin with. It doesn’t matter whether others know about it or not."
"Tingchen was so protective of you yesterday, didn’t that make you feel proud?" He Min asked further.
Fang Anning replied: "Of course not, he was protective of me because I am part of the He family; he couldn’t just let me be bullied by outsiders. If Aunt was there, you would have protected me too, because we are all part of the He family."
"You’re right, if I were there, I would have protected you. After all, you are a member of the He family; we can’t let outsiders look down upon us," He Min said.
Fang Anning furrowed her brows.
She thought to herself, He Min must be speaking sarcastically!
Had she been so angered that she was confused?
"Alright, I won’t chat anymore, I’ll go see the old master first and come back to talk to you later," He Min said as she stood up.
Fang Anning nodded and respectfully saw her out.
However, watching her go to the backyard, a sense of unease surged within her. She had a feeling He Min wouldn’t let things rest so easily; surely, she had some plan waiting for her.
