Chapter 172: Chapter 96 Binding Spell_1
Time flew by quickly. Before the second Potions class, Zheng Qing was surprised to realize that almost two weeks had passed since he had arrived at this school when the frowning Headmaster Tang came to collect his homework.
These past ten or so days may not seem long as it was perhaps not even enough time to heat a cauldron for an old wizard brewing potions.
However, these days weren’t short either. After all, God created the world in just seven days.
In more than ten days, God could establish half a world.
But for an ordinary person like Zheng Qing, he had not even had the time to explore the entire wizard college.
Reflecting on these moments, Zheng Qing had a deeper understanding of Confucius’ saying: "Time slips away like a flowing river, neither day nor night."
"Please, Headmaster, spare me ten minutes!" Zheng Qing joined his hands together and hit his forehead on the desk, "Just ten minutes! I spent the past several days practicing Old Yao’s spell and completely forgot Professor Li’s homework."
Professor Li, whose full name is Li QiHuang, was the Potions professor. He sounded like an ingredient for a potion. Just like Professor Yao, he was slightly hunched and usually wore black glasses, speaking softly during class, appearing very approachable.
But that was merely a facade.
Despite only interacting with him once, the students of Astronomy Class 08-1 had already ranked this polite professor as ’Strict Top 2’, only second to Professor Emma who taught Astronomy.
Unlike Professor Emma’s powerful aura, Professor Li’s severity was manifested in his demands for the students’ academic work.
After the first introductory lecture, this amiable Potions professor left homework for the new students.
In Xin Fat Man’s words, it was absolutely heartless and inhumane!
Of course, he only dared to grumble about this in the dorm room.
In reality, the homework Professor Li left was not too difficult.
For these freshman students, he simply required everyone to carefully preview the first two sections of Chapter Two in "Standard Potion Study," summarize the application of ephedra in herbs, and according to the general format of the appendix table in the textbook, to understand the kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species of ephedra, clarify its four aliases, medicinal effects, and usages mentioned in the book. They also needed to memorize one prescription including ephedra they had taken note of.
The professor clearly stated that he would randomly check their memorization before the next class.
However, because of Old Yao’s spell lesson a few days ago, it seemed that most students in the class had not completed Professor Li’s task.
"Even you, the cost student, haven’t done your homework..." Tang Dun placed his face on Zheng Qing’s desk with a sigh. "This world is sick."
"Ten minutes, just ten minutes." Zheng Qing’s face flushed as he tried to shake off his embarrassment, "Let me copy your homework. I promise to finish it in ten minutes."
"Forget it. Everyone’s busy practicing that spell. Except for Liu Fei Fei, Jiang Yu, and Matthew, don’t expect to find a fourth finished homework."
"What should I do then!" Zheng Qing looked bewildered.
He glanced at the group of girls huddled together in front, giving up hope for Jiang Yu and Liu Fei Fei’s homework. Meanwhile, Matthew was sitting next to the window with a hostile expression, discouraging any attempt for a conversation.
"I’ll go and see if Professor Li can make an exception." Tang Dun massaged his face, looking despondent, "If no one in the whole class has done their homework, it’s really embarrassing."
Zheng Qing chuckled awkwardly a couple of times, not daring to continue.
After all, Headmaster Tang had just served as a negative example in Old Yao’s class a few days ago, and now he had to bear the wrath of another professor.
"Did you grasp that spell Professor Yao taught?" Zheng Qing, lost in thoughts, asked quietly.
Tang Dun’s already dejected face sank even more, giving an impression of someone who had been punched by a gorilla.
"I think I kind of get it." The Headmaster grumbled, complaining, "If I had known I’d have to constantly shoulder burdens for you guys, I would never have agreed to be the class head."
Zheng Qing chuckled, giving Tang’s shoulder a sympathizing pat.
That was on Monday morning’s spell class.
Old Yao began to officially teach advanced spells.
"The power of a spell lies in the incantation. Without a powerful incantation, even if you possess substantial abilities, you won’t be able to unleash them." At the blackboard, Old Yao was animated and eloquent, but with little response from the students.
On the one hand, the novelty of starting school had gradually faded. On the other hand, the effects of the weekend gathering were apparent, adding to the Monday blues, so everyone in the class looked weary and fatigued.
"Compared to practice, language is, at times, truly deficient." Seemingly dissatisfied with the atmosphere of the scene, Old Yao suddenly gave a creepy smile, "It seems you guys need a different kind of stimulus."
As he spoke, Old Yao casually drew a magic circle on the blackboard with chalk, murmured a spell, and tapped the drawing with a law book.
With a burst of intense magic fluctuation, a gorilla standing two meters tall tore apart the spell and crawled out.
This was a mature male gorilla. Its black and shiny fur coupled with the brutal glint flickering in its eyes created an intimidating sight. But under Old Yao’s deterrence, this savage animal could only squat quietly, the digits of its hands plugging its ears. From its mouth, incessant roars and growls could be heard. Occasionally, it would scratch its chest hair to express its anxiety and unrest.
The students in the front two rows were so scared that they jumped up and recoiled. The students behind quickly climbed onto the tables, pounding them with force.
The male students were screaming in terror, and the female students were shrieking. The classroom quickly descended into chaos, resembling a poultry yard.
"Class, class, remember a wizard’s dignity!" Professor Yao chuckled, tapping on the blackboard, paying no mind to the chaos in the classroom. "Alright, stop your ruckus!"
The classroom gradually fell silent, and the atmosphere became lively once again.
"Today, I want to teach you all about a binding spell."
The professor’s words perked everyone up, especially Zheng Qing, whose law book was completely blank. His eyes widened in anticipation.
"Firstly, I want you all to think of a way to restrain this guy." Old Yao swept his gaze across his students, pausing for a second on the eager Zheng Qing, he added, "Of course, this is a magic class, so you should know the means to do so."
As he spoke, he gestured for everyone to try.
Zheng Qing pouted and withdrew his hand from his grey bag.
He saw the equally despondent Xin Fat Man putting on his jacket, Duan Xiao Jian muttering as he put away a packet of medicine, and the defiant Zhang Ji Xin muttering while reluctantly putting his brass knuckles back in his pocket.
Everyone else was looking at each other, cautiously sizing up the massive beast.
After a while, under the professor’s encouraging gaze, Tang Dun the class monitor, slowly stepped forward.
"If it’s Dun Dun regardless, there’ll be no problem," the amorous girls in the distance chattered excitedly.
Zheng Qing felt a chill run down his spine.
Of course, he also knew that to many girls, Tang Dun, who was tall, robust, born into a wealthy family, and had a gentle personality, was indeed very charming.
Except her.
Zheng Qing carefully glanced at the crowd, Elena, who was clutching her tarot cards and leaning against the desk, silent, appeared out of place amidst the lively classroom atmosphere.
Just like that vampire, the scholarship student sneered jealously.
As though sensing Zheng Qing’s gaze, Elena lifted her head and glanced at him.
Zheng Qing quickly turned his head towards the huge gorilla.
Face her, be brave! He roared at himself internally.
"Roar!" The gorilla in the center of the classroom roared in response.
"Wrap and bind!" Tang Dun flipped open his maroon law book and ordered in a deep tone.
Thick green vines materialized out of thin air, encircling the gorilla, quickly binding it.
One round, two rounds, three rounds.
Soon, the gorilla was bound in multiple layers of thick vines, and Tang Dun seemed to be showing signs of fatigue.
Old Yao scanned the classroom and found no one else willing to step up. Zheng Qing had some understanding. It meant no one could do the spell better than Tang Dun.
Old Yao grinned and sidestepped a couple of times away from the action.
The gorilla seemed to understand something. It roared and stretched out its arms, snapping the thick vines binding it. It stood up, pounded its chest, and roared even louder.
Tang Dun turned pale, clearly suffering mild backlash from the spell.
The freshmen were in an uproar again. The girls hid behind the boys, while the boys tried their best to display their bravery.
Old Yao curved his finger and knocked on the podium.
The gorilla grunted twice, looking wronged, and squatted back to its original spot.
