Chapter 53: You’re lucky Young Master BaiShe isn’t the arrogant type

The soldiers recoiled.

"By the heavens... There are too many of them!"

"We won’t hold out!"

In five seconds, several warriors in their path had become grotesque piles of flesh.

Kang didn’t hesitate for a second.

He took a deep breath and channeled all his energy into his lance. The flames around him turned a blazing orange, heating the air to the point of shimmering.

*"Phoenixfication."*

He leaped into the air and, with a fluid motion, brought his lance down directly onto the monster’s skull. An explosion engulfed the battlefield, blinding everyone for a moment.

When the dust settled, charred monsters lay on the ground.

The soldiers regained their courage and redoubled their efforts, driving back the monsters with renewed determination.

Ruoxi, standing in the rear, watched the scene with an amused smile, clapping.

"Uncle would be proud of you!"

He turned to her, his gaze burning.

"Fight or shut up! You’re annoying me!"

She shrugged, then stretched her arms.

"He he he, Alright, if you insist..."

...

Yuming and Qiu Jian fought in perfect synchronization, their almost instinctive coordination making every move deadly for their opponents.

Qiu Jian, wielding his lightning spear with surgical precision, cleared the way with crackling discharges. His body was imbured with the power of the *Eight Divine Gates*, and though he could only open three, it was enough to multiply his speed and striking force spectacularly. Every blow he delivered triggered a thunderous roar, the air itself filling with static electricity.

*"Divine Fury!"*

He slammed his spear into the ground, and a storm of lightning struck the battlefield, indiscriminately hitting monsters and terrain, carbonizing everything in its path. The lightning fell in bursts, reducing the creatures to smoking ashes.

Beside him, Yuming complemented his attacks with relentless coldness. She dodged with grace, her long blue coat fluttering in the air as she summoned a rain of ice daggers. Her *Eternal Frost* technique froze her enemies in place, immobilizing them before Jian finished them off.

A rank six monster, resembling a giant flying serpent, lunged at her, but before it could reach her, she snapped her fingers. An ice stalagmite erupted from the ground, piercing the beast in mid-air. Its body stiffened from the biting cold, and Jian took advantage of the opening to deliver the fatal blow.

The duo worked in perfect harmony, taking down dozens of enemies. But despite their efficiency, the waves of monsters seemed endless.

The disciples of the great sects, witnessing their power, whispered among themselves while continuing to fight.

"Look at them... they’re unstoppable."

"Qiu Jian can already open three divine gates, it’s incredible at his age."

"And Yuming... They say she learned the ice arts from the Pavilion Master. It wasn’t just rumors!"

But admiration quickly turned to concern as a new wave of stronger enemies arrived.

Qiu Jian, too focused on his own fight, didn’t see a lion-like monster leap at Yuming. Its fangs sank brutally into her arm, making her scream in pain.

"Jian!"

She tried to break free, but the creature didn’t let go. Her blood dripped onto the monster’s fur, and the pain blurred her vision.

Qiu Jian, himself cornered by several opponents, couldn’t intervene.

"Damn it!"

He tried to turn toward her, but a claw slashed his shoulder, preventing him from moving.

Just as he thought his fiancée was doomed, a shadow raced across the battlefield at lightning speed.

The next instant, the monster exploded in a spray of blood and charred flesh.

BaiShe appeared, his white coat stained with blood.

He simply raised his hand, and an invisible shockwave swept through all the nearby monsters, reducing them to dust in a single blow.

Yuming, still in shock, looked at him.

BaiShe, however, showed no emotion. He pulled out two vials filled with golden elixir and tossed them to them without ceremony.

"Sorry."

His tone was calm but terribly detached.

"Huh?"

BaiShe lowered his eyes slightly, his piercing gaze cutting through Qiu Jian.

"For the last time. When I beat you to death."

Qiu Jian frowned, clenching his fist.

A heavy silence fell.

The surrounding disciples exchanged stunned glances. A descendant of an ancient family apologizing? It was unheard of.

Yuming, frozen for a moment, slowly nodded.

"I see..."

She grabbed the elixir and opened it without hesitation.

But Qiu Jian, exploding with anger, violently threw the vial to the ground, shattering it into pieces.

"I don’t need your condescending pity! Bastard!"

His spear, still crackling with electricity, dangerously between his fingers.

"You think a simple apology will suffice? That I’ll just forget the humiliation you put me through?"

His gaze burned with rage.

’Good, good! Don’t forget the humiliation, Qiu Jian.’ He smiled inwardly.

"No matter what, I’ll get my revenge!"

BaiShe observed him silently, as if weighing his words.

Then, without a trace of emotion, he simply nodded.

"Whatever."

He turned away.

"We’ll settle this later."

His tone was so cold it was almost contemptuous. He walked past them without even glancing back.

Qiu Jian, jaw clenched, wanted to grab him, but he stopped himself at the last moment.

Yuming gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Stop."

She locked eyes with him, reproachful.

"What’s gotten into you?"

Jian looked away.

"You were there, Ming’er! I can’t let him spit in my face without—"

"Do you want to die?" she continued harshly. "Or worse, endanger your sect?"

Yuming had her reservations the first time, thinking he was from a hidden family, but knowing his true identity, retaliation was impossible.

He didn’t respond, simply tightening his grip on his spear until his knuckles turned white.

Yuming sighed deeply, her arm still throbbing from the bite.

"You’re lucky Young Master BaiShe isn’t the arrogant type."

"..."

"You should learn to control yourself, Jian. You weren’t this impulsive before. You’re disappointing me..."

Jian remained silent, watching BaiShe’s white figure disappear into the bloody mist of the battlefield.

But deep down, the hatred still burned.

And he intended to nurture it until the day he could finally take his revenge.
