Chapter 99: Side Story: Mama’s Gathering (Part 1)
Later that afternoon, just before things got busier for lunch, Ignatius came down, holding Nyx in his arms.
He was getting ready to head to the castle.
Shen Xinghui, out of habit, kissed him goodbye, and Ignatius turned bright red, clearly embarrassed.
A voice from behind, saying "Ooooh!", reminded Shen Xinghui of where they were, and he too blushed.
Seraphina was running around, trying her best to carry glasses of water.
Shen Xinghui had asked her to deliver water to the people without it, and she was determinedly doing so.
Her effort was so adorable that it melted the hearts of everyone around her.
Vaelrik was helping Kaelion carry the dishes of food.
Though Vaelrik was a little frantic and almost dropped a few plates, Kaelion quickly grabbed them, preventing a disaster.
The guests around them were all cheering and applauding.
Time passed joyfully, and both Shen Xinghui and Henry, along with Jenna, smiled as they watched.
It was clear to them that they were witnessing the children’s growth firsthand.
Two days later, in the afternoon before they were to return to the mansion the next morning, Jenna came back from shopping, carrying a bunch of flowers and tree saplings.
"What’s all that?"
"I’m in the middle of tidying up the garden. If you’d like, you can all plant some flowers too."
Ignatius had the day off and was helping in the shop.
He tried to lend a hand, though he was a bit clumsy. In the end, he took care of Nyx.
He seemed a little down, though.
"Wow! Flowers!"
"Do you want to plant them?"
"Yes!"
Seraphina, full of excitement, ran around looking at the flowers with buds next to Jenna.
Shen Xinghui, along with the others, headed to the garden.
The back garden now had a flower bed that hadn’t been there before.
They dug holes with a shovel and planted the flower saplings.
They were told that the flowers would bloom from summer to fall.
Afterward, they planted some trees in the holes that had already been dug.
"What kind of flowers will bloom from this tree?"
The young tree was still thin, but it stood about as tall as Shen Xinghui’s chest.
Ignatius, who stood beside him, smiled softly.
"This is a tree called ’Spring Flower Tree.’ The season is already over, but in spring, it will bloom with pale pink flowers."
"Pale pink flowers?"
"Yes. When it grows, small pale pink flowers will bloom in clusters, looking almost like clouds."
"That sounds..."
It was just like a cherry blossom tree.
Shen Xinghui touched the newly planted tree.
He imagined it covered in green leaves, blooming with flowers in the spring.
Then, he made an important decision and turned to Ignatius.
"Next spring, let’s come here together again."
"Hm?"
"In my world, there’s a tradition of enjoying meals while admiring the spring flower tree, called the spring festival. The flowers I see back then look very similar to the flowers on this tree."
As Shen Xinghui spoke, Ignatius looked at the freshly planted tree with a deep sense of thought.
Then, gently, he put his arm around Shen Xinghui’s shoulder and nodded.
"Of course, let’s do that. Sitting on the grass, enjoying a meal sounds wonderful."
"Yes."
"I’m looking forward to it."
Looking up at Ignatius, Shen Xinghui smiled broadly and nodded.
Then, imagining the lively spring festival celebration in the garden next spring, he smiled happily.
...
On a sunny afternoon, the courtyard of Ignatius’s mansion was bustling slightly.
The preparations for a tea party were underway, and one guest had already arrived.
However, a little bit of noise from the front indicated that another guest had just arrived.
Shen Xinghui realized this and stood up. "They’re here."
"It seems so. I’ll step away for a moment."
"Ah, sorry about that."
"It’s no problem."
Leaving the guest, Nikolai, behind, Shen Xinghui quickly made his way to the front.
Sure enough, another guest had arrived.
The beautiful golden dragon gleamed softly under the sunlight.
With a gentle, rumbling purr, he slowly opened his palm.
In the golden dragon hand sat a young man and a boy who was happily sitting on his lap.
Both of them looked up at Shen Xinghui and smiled brightly.
"Xinghui!"
"Lysander!"
The young man with short, shining golden hair and emerald-green eyes stood up and stepped into the garden.
Beside him, a well-mannered Dragon Man boy with soft golden hair and golden eyes stood quietly.
A glowing cluster of light shimmered and then scattered like mist.
The golden dragon, Gabriel, who had been standing behind them, gave a gentle smile.
"It’s been a while, Xinghui."
"It has, Gabriel. Ignatius is waiting inside."
"Mr. Xinghui, is Vaelrik here?"
"Yes, Gavi."
The golden-haired boy ran up to Shen Xinghui’s feet.
He was close in age to Vaelrik, and the two of them were good friends.
With a slightly delicate, almost ephemeral smile, his cheeks flushed as he hurried inside.
Lysander, Gabriel’s partner, was a former human prince with a rather unusual skill, different from Shen Xinghui’s own.
It was called Fortune Sharing, it’s a skill that was related to happiness.
Apparently, he could share his own happiness with others.
The method was quite simple—when Lysander listened to someone’s wish and responded with something positive like "I hope it comes true" or "You’ll be fine," he would unknowingly transfer some of his own fortune to that person.
While it sounded like a wonderful skill, the drawback was that an equivalent amount of misfortune would befall Lysander instead.
For minor things, like stepping in dog poop or falling into a puddle, it was nothing more than a laughing matter.
But if the wish he granted was something major, the misfortune that followed would be just as severe.
That’s how Lysander and Gabriel met.
They became acquainted by chance, and as they grew closer, Lysander learned about the hardships Gabriel endured in his efforts to have children.
Without thinking, he had comforted him by saying, "Don’t worry, you’ll find a great wife and have wonderful kids!" In that instant, his happiness gauge plummeted, and Lysander suffered a great deal.
