Chapter 93: Side Story: Augustine And Nikolai
Chapter 93: Side Story: Augustine And Nikolai
Augustine’s wife, Nikolai, was a breathtakingly beautiful Beast Man from Fox Tribe.
His silver hair cascaded down to the middle of his back, and his fox ears—tipped with just a hint of black fur—twitched elegantly.
But what truly captivated him was his large, bushy tail, it luxurious and stunning in every way.
It was love at first sight.
He had been utterly, hopelessly enthralled—so much so that he was left momentarily speechless.
"You’re perfect! I’ve never—never in my life—met someone as magnificent as you! Please, marry me! Please bear my children!"
He had confessed his love within mere minutes of meeting him.
The way he had looked at him then, full of scorn—he would never forget it.
That gaze, as if he were nothing more than dust or garbage on the side of the road... It had stirred something in him, awakened something.
But of course, such feelings were reserved for his beloved wife alone.
If anyone else dared to look at him like that, he would reduce them to ashes.
Without hesitation.
As they worked together, he had come to learn more about him.
At first, he had assumed he was simply a proud and haughty person.
But that wasn’t the case at all.
He was devoted, burdened by duty and responsibility.
Strong-willed—but a little clumsy.
The kingdom of Beast Man was... very complicated.
Technically, there were no official restrictions on professions based on race.
On the surface.
But within rigid, hierarchical institutions—like the military—it was unspoken law that carnivorous Beast Man held the highest ranks.
As a young fox, Nikolai was an anomaly in that system.
And because of that, he suffered.
Which is why—he had taken him.
He had wanted his desperately, so he had used every bit of power and influence at his disposal.
And so began their dazzling, wonderful life together.
...Or what some might call an abduction and imprisonment.
Still, he had been happy.
Even though he despised him, he had known that from the start.
But, little by little, he had started to open up to him.
Looking back, he regretted not telling his the truth about himself sooner.
After a certain incident, everything had changed.
For some reason, he had suddenly embraced him with overwhelming intensity.
He would never forget the words he had spoken to him that day.
"I’ll bear your child. But in exchange, you need to do it until I’m pregnant."
What passion.
What thrilling, exhilarating words!
And yet, he had been so stunned by the sudden shift that he had simply frozen in disbelief.
Even now, he wished he could go back in time and punch himself in the face.
Regardless, they had come together at last—and now, they had a beautiful son.
Their son, Evander, had inherited Nikolai’s silver hair.
However, he was a Dragon Man.
Because of the rare bloodline he had inherited from his mother, he would one day surpass Augustine in magical power.
Augustine looked forward to that day with great anticipation.
But more importantly—he was an angel.
Nikolai often scolded him, saying, "You need to act more like a father."
But he already was one!
It was just that his affections weren’t as obvious, and—more importantly—he was far too in love with his wife.
For now, their son was growing up together with Kaelion, the son of Augustine’s childhood friend, Ignatius.
"Hey, Augustine."
—A voice called out.
Augustine’s newborn son had already grown a little.
He was truly adorable.
And to think—Nikolai had given birth to two children!
He hadn’t expected it, which made him all the happier.
In the end, he really was loved, wasn’t he?
"Hey, Augustine!"
Once his youngest son grew a little more, perhaps... one more wouldn’t be so bad.
Ignatius already had three children.
That was thanks to his wife, Shen Xinghui, who possessed a rather unique skill.
But Augustine had managed to have two purely through sheer determination.
A miracle, really.
—FWOOOSH!
All of a sudden, the hem of his military uniform caught fire.
He immediately lifted his head and patted out the flames.
Standing before him, clad in the same military uniform, was his wife—Nikolai.
With his arms crossed he looked ooking absolutely furious.
"Oi. Lizard."
That sharp, contemptuous gaze—it sent shivers down his spine.
And then, without an ounce of hesitation, he hurled the single most insulting word one could say to a Dragon Man.
Lizard.
...Gods, he was so magnificent.
"My apologies. I was lost in thought."
"It wasn’t about work, was it?"
"Oh my, what makes you think that? I assure you, I was being perfectly diligent—"
"I can tell just by looking at your damn face."
Incredible.
Even his personal aide, Martin, couldn’t read his thoughts this well.
But his wife? he saw right through him.
"Did you need something?"
"Yeah. Evander wants to stay over at Kaelion’s place soon."
That wasn’t unusual.
Their son and Ignatius’ son had grown up together.
"But... something about it feels off."
Now that was interesting.
"Coincidentally, your little ’acquaintances’ Dominus and Giovanni are leaving the country around the same time."
At that, Augustine raised an eyebrow.
This smelled like a secret.
...Well, acquaintances was a mild way to put it.
Dominus who is a red dragon, and Giovanni who is an azure dragon, were more like little brothers to him.
Recently, they had become adventurers.
Perhaps they had been inspired by Ignatius’ past—chasing that same romanticized dream of adventure.
But that had been pure luck.
Fateful encounters like that didn’t just happen every day.
"What will you do?"
"Hmm. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to let them go."
Evander was fourteen, and Kaelion was twelve.
It was only natural that they’d start growing curious about the world beyond their home.
Stifling that curiosity wouldn’t be wise.
Nikolai, however, looked a little uneasy.
His words were harsh—but at his core, he was incredibly kind.
"Are you worried?"
He averted his gaze slightly.
"Not really. It’s fine, isn’t it?"
Even as he spoke, his tail remained lowered.
So stubborn.
"Dominus may be careless, but he’s strong. And Giovanni balances him out by staying calm."
"If it’s not a long journey, I think it’s fine to let them go."
"...I see."
At the end of the day, Nikolai was a mother.
And he absolutely adored their son.
Augustine thought for a moment, then smiled.
"If you’re worried, why not train him yourself?"
"Huh?"
"You could teach Evander hand-to-hand combat."
"Me?!"
Nikolai looked shocked, but before he could protest further, Augustine kissed him.
—FWOOOSH!
And his clothes immediately caught fire again.
Good thing he’d learned healing magic.
"What the hell was that?!"
"Huh? Just an expression of love."
"I don’t need that."
"You’re so bad at being honest."
At this, Nikolai made a face of pure disgust.
Beautiful.
Instead of panicking, he lowered his voice dangerously and threatened him instead.
He really understood him well.
"If you’re worried about Evander, training him is a parent’s responsibility."
"Your hand-to-hand combat skills are among the best in our military. I’m sure it’ll help him."
"I don’t know how to hold back."
"Once I get into it, I end up treating everyone like a soldier."
—Ah.
His ears flattened.
He was afraid their son would hate him.
Despite everything, Nikolai was completely doting when it came to Evander.
But he didn’t need to worry.
Evander adored his mother very much.
And he was understanding.
He wouldn’t resent his for being strict—not if he knew it was for his own good.
"It’ll be fine. He’s your son—he has a strong will. You should teach him."
"If you’re worried, keep the sessions short."
"Make sure it’s not overwhelming, and when you’re done, just have tea with him afterward."
"A short session won’t be enough training."
"...You’re planning to put him through full military drills, aren’t you?"
He said he was scared to be too strict, yet here he was.
How amusing.
"Just keep it to an hour. That’ll be enough."
"And then, let’s give him permission to go."
Nikolai let out a long sigh.
"...Fine."
Augustine chuckled as he finally gave in.
No matter how much time passed, he never stopped being utterly captivated by him.
"Hey, darling."
"What?"
"If we really tried, don’t you think we could have a third child?"
"...Huh?!"
Nikolai’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he took a step back.
Augustine stood and slowly advanced toward him.
Not even flames would stop him now.
"Mmm—mmh—"
As he captured his chin and deepened the kiss, his sharp eyes darkened with heat and grew slightly damp.
Exquisite.
It was intoxicating.
"You—!"
"I want another one."
"Won’t you give me another child?"
He whispered into his ear.
H didn’t push him away.
Augustine knew.
Be loved children.
And he knew he was a little jealous of Shen Xinghui, who already had three.
Which meant—
A third children wasn’t far off.
Until he was carrying their next child, he would hold him.
As many times as it took.
That thought in mind, Augustine kissed his beloved wife once more.
