Chapter 92: Side Story: Kaelion Chernoborg Jorbahamut (Part 3)
Although none of them possessed it at the same high level as their mother, Kaelion had received the skill as well.
So had his younger siblings, to varying degrees.
When his mother had discovered this, he had nearly burst into tears, exclaiming, "I’m so sorry!"
Kaelion, on the other hand, had no idea why he was apologizing.
After all, wasn’t it a wonderful thing?
This meant that in the future, he would be able to live happily with his chosen partner.
He would be able to have children of his own.
But still... what was this current situation?
"Kaelion, big brooo! Carry me!"
"Nooo! Big brother is mine!"
"Big brother, let’s climb trees together!"
"No way! He’s playing hide-and-seek with me!"
"Nooo! Big brother is playing house with me!"
"Waaahhh!"
"Bwaaaaah!"
...What utter chaos.
Seven younger siblings.
Not a single one of them had the same demand.
Kaelion could feel the headache coming.
His father and mother had certainly put in the effort, and his mother’s high-level skill had only accelerated the situation.
And now, here he was—with seven siblings born in quick succession.
Taking care of them was both his joy and his suffering.
"Alright... how about this? We’ll play hide-and-seek after lunch. First... let’s start with playing house."
Because there were simply too many demands to handle at once, he lifted his third younger brother into his arms while carrying his second younger sister on his back.
Meanwhile, he played house with his eldest younger sister while keeping an eye on younger brothers one and two, who were climbing trees.
Since he was playing the "father" role in their pretend family, he also changed the diapers of the still-infant third younger sister and fourth younger brother, gently patting them to sleep.
"My dear, please stop doting on the children so much and pay attention to me as well."
"Huh? Oh... sorry."
"Honestly, you’re such a difficult man."
...Where had his first younger sister even learned to say something like that?
She must have picked it up somewhere while spending time with the maids.
"Big bro!"
"What’s wrong—wait, whoa!"
"I fell!"
His first younger brothers and second younger brother were standing there, covered in dirt and scratches, their faces scrunched up in near tears.
As Kaelion quickly stood up, his second younger sister, who had been clinging to his neck, started crying.
Then, as if triggered by the sound, his third younger brother and even the babies began to wailing as well.
What was he supposed to do in this situation?!
"Alright! One thing at a time, so wait!"
First things first—he needed to clean up his injured younger brothers.
Kaelion rushed them to the garden’s water spout, placed his hand over the magic stone, and let water flow over their scrapes.
Luckily, they were just minor scratches.
"You need to be more careful."
"O-okay..."
As he ruffled their heads, still damp with tears, he smiled.
It felt... strange.
Like a ticklish warmth inside him.
It was exhausting, yes.
His siblings were loud, demanding, and sometimes enough to make him want to grab his head in frustration.
But he didn’t hate it.
He loved them.
He loved playing with them, changing their diapers, and even sleeping beside them.
But just as he was about to bask in that realization—
A sudden cold splash of water drenched him from head to toe.
Kaelion sputtered, shaking wet strands of hair out of his face, and turned to find his third younger brother touching the magic stone that controlled the water.
At his age, he still had no control over his magic, and the result?
The water had blasted out at full force.
"Waaaaaah!"
"I-I’m shorryyy!"
"No—no! You don’t have to cry over it!"
By the time he managed to stop the water, he realized that all of his younger siblings had gotten soaked as well.
And so, with a sigh, Kaelion gathered them up and led them all to the bathroom.
Once inside, as they all warmed up in the bath, he lined his younger siblings up in a neat row and began washing their hair one by one.
His sisters’ hair was soft and fluffy, just like their mother’s.
His brothers’ hair was a bit coarser, resembling their father’s.
"Big brother, that tickles."
"Kaelion, wash my hair too!"
"Wait your turn."
He patiently scrubbed their heads and rinsed their hair, one after the other.
Finally, he could wash himself—
Or so he thought.
Just as he reached for the soap, he turned to find all of his siblings standing there, sponges in hand, ready and waiting.
"Huh?"
"Big brother, we’ll wash you!"
"I’ll do your back!"
"I got his hair!"
"Wha—hey, wait—!"
Surrounded by his younger siblings, Kaelion found himself being scrubbed clean from head to toe.
Their faces were filled with joy, their laughter echoing through the bath.
It was heartwarming.
And in that moment, he realized just how much they loved him.
Feeling both content and amused, he let them wash him without protest.
After rinsing off the soap, they all sank into the warm bath together.
As always, one of his younger siblings ended up sitting on his lap, chattering happily in their childish, clumsy speech.
He found himself enjoying it.
"Big brother, sing us a song!"
"A song? Hmm, let me think..."
He recalled the lullabies their mother used to sing.
Songs from another world, unfamiliar yet strangely comforting.
Humming the melody, he was soon joined by his younger siblings, their tiny voices blending into an off-key but cheerful chorus.
Before he knew it, the bathroom had turned into a full-blown concert.
Once bath time was over, he dried them off with towels, helped them into their clothes, and then they all had lunch together.
After eating, it was time for tag and hide-and-seek in the vast garden—the perfect playground.
They ran, played, and laughed until the younger ones started rubbing their eyes, struggling to keep them open.
"Shall we take a nap?"
"Mmm... okay."
Kaelion led them to the children’s room, where he read them a story.
One by one, his younger siblings drifted off to sleep.
He let out a small sigh, but there was a smile on his face.
"What a day..."
It was exhausting. But fun.
Yes, definitely fun.
But still...
...
"Nnn... no more siblings... I don’t need any more..."
Sleeping in the children’s room, tightly hugged by his younger brothers and sisters, Kaelion mumbled in his sleep.
Two figures standing by the door—his mother and father—froze at his words, their eyes widening in surprise.
"Mmm... seven siblings are too much to handle..."
"W-Wait! How many did I give birth to?!"
Shen Xinghui who is startled, blurted out in shock.
From just behind him, Ignatius chuckled.
"Kaelion has really become a responsible big brother, hasn’t he?"
Shen Xinghui nodded, a fond smile on his lips.
"He has. He looks after his siblings, studies, and even trains with the sword. But... he doesn’t seem to have much time to just play like a child. He never complains or asks for anything. He understands too much for his age... and I feel bad about that."
He had changed ever since his younger siblings were born.
He was always kind, always responsible—but he had stopped asking for things for himself.
"I wish he would let himself be spoiled more," Shen Xinghui murmured softly.
Then, as if struck by an idea, he turned to his husband.
"Hey... why don’t we take Kaelion on a trip?"
Just the three of them.
Time alone as a family had become rare.
Ignatius had his duties, and Shen Xinghui was often occupied caring for the younger children while also tending to his responsibilities as queen.
Ignatius seemed to think for a moment before nodding with a warm smile.
"Vaelrik and Serapha have grown up. We can leave them at the castle with my parents and take a month-long trip."
"That sounds great!"
It would be the first trip they had taken with just Kaelion.
Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but feel excited, agreeing with childlike enthusiasm.
"Mmm... all seven of them on my lap..."
Hearing Kaelion mumble again in his sleep, Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but chuckle.
"Still... seven, huh?"
Seven was certainly a lot.
He let out a wry smile, but—
From behind him, his husband wrapped an arm around his waist and pulling him close.
"Even if we had that many, it wouldn’t bother me one bit."
Ah.
He knew that tone.
That was an invitation.
...Maybe the "next one" could wait until after their trip.
But—he wasn’t completely against the idea.
With his skills, seven wouldn’t take long at all.
—As long as his stamina held out, anyway.
Thus a story on certain spring day in Kaelion’s tenth year ended.
