Chapter 88: A New Beginning
"The baby has been safely delivered."
Her gentle smile filled Ignatius with relief.
He rushed toward her, his eyes fixed on the child, but at the same time, his mind was consumed by worry for Shen Xinghui.
"What about Xinghui?"
"He’s alright. There was significant bleeding, but he is conscious and stable. The bleeding stopped relatively quickly, thanks to both the midwife’s treatment and his own healing abilities."
At those words, the tension drained from Ignatius all at once.
His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.
His father approached, pulling him into a strong embrace before giving his shoulder a firm pat.
The fear melted away, leaving only happiness in its place.
"Ignatius, look."
His mother was the first one to hold the child and she urging him to come closer.
He stood up and slowly approached the child in his mother arms.
He looked down at the baby, who smiled up at him.
The small, soft figure exuded a delicate and gentle scent.
She held the child out to him, but Ignatius hesitated, unsure of how to hold him properly.
He had practiced before, but it never felt quite right.
He had never held anything so small and fragile before.
Seeing his uncertainty, his mother gently guided his arms into position and carefully placed the baby in them.
Ignatius barely dared to move.
The baby’s neck seemed so unsteady, as if it might drop at the slightest shift.
His body was warm, his soft black eyes gazing up at Ignatius with a delighted smile.
Tears welled up and slipped down Ignatius’s cheeks.
He had read books, touched Shen Xinghui’s belly, and prepared himself for the responsibility of protecting his family.
He had thought he understood what it meant to become a father.
But the truth was, he hadn’t fully grasped it.
The birth had come so suddenly—too soon for his heart to catch up.
But now, as he held this impossibly light yet profoundly heavy presence in his arms, he finally understood.
In this moment, he had truly become a father.
"He’s so soft... I’m afraid he’ll break," Ignatius whispered.
"That’s exactly why you have to protect him," his mother replied.
Ignatius nodded.
He wanted to see Shen Xinghui as soon as possible.
He needed to be by his side, to look him in the eyes, and, more than anything, to say, "Thank you."
When he finally received word that Shen Xinghui had stabilized, he entrusted the baby to his mother and quickly go to his side.
Seeing Shen Xinghui who is still lying down on the bed, Ignatius couldn’t hold back his tears.
Shen Xinghui smiled at him, looking lively despite everything.
But the sight of the blood-stained sheets beside him spoke of the ordeal he had endured.
How much blood had he lost?
His eyes were swollen and red from crying, his voice hoarse, his exhaustion still evident.
Ignatius rushed forward, wrapping his arms around him.
Shen Xinghui’s body was warm—he was here, alive.
Only then did Ignatius finally feel relief.
"Thank you, Xinghui! I’m truly... I put you through so much pain," he choked out.
Shen Xinghui let out a tired chuckle. "Yeah... but I’m okay now, so don’t worry."
Although Shen Xinghui’s arms were weaker than usual, he still held Ignatius close, placing a reassuring hand on his back.
Ignatius cherished the feeling of his touch.
Their child who is now named Kaelion Chernoborg Jorbahamut, grew up very quickly.
For the first week after his birth, Ignatius took a break from his duties to spend time with his family.
That week taught him something important—raising a child was no easy task.
The baby needed to be fed every few hours, and just when they thought he was settled, it was time to change his diapers.
When he wasn’t feeding or fussing, he slept most of the time.
"Xinghui, aren’t you exhausted? I can help," Ignatius offered.
He couldn’t breastfeeding the baby, but he could do everything else.
In fact, giving Kaelion his baths had become Ignatius’s responsibility.
The baby seemed to enjoy it, he looked very relaxed in the warm water, sometimes even he looks dozing off.
"I’m fine. You’ve already been helping a lot," Shen Xinghui replied with a smile. "Honestly, I think you’re better at changing diapers than I am."
"Really?" Ignatius asked, surprised.
Shen Xinghui played with Kaelion’s tiny fingers, letting the baby grip his hand.
Kaelion seemed to enjoy holding onto things, often reaching out instinctively.
Sitting on a soft rug with the cradle gently rocking between them, Ignatius and Shen Xinghui smiled at each other, basking in the peaceful afternoon.
It was in moments like these that Ignatius felt his greatest happiness.
A month had passed since Kaelion’s birth.
Today, Ignatius and Shen Xinghui would truly become spouses.
Dressed in the ceremonial robe passed down from his father, Ignatius stood before the altar, feeling restless.
He couldn’t calm himself.
Since arriving at the venue with Shen Xinghui, they had been separated, and he hadn’t seen him since.
His mother had dragged him off, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
It was overwhelming.
The time leading up to this moment had been short, yet it felt like a lifetime.
The first time they met in the forest near the border seemed like a distant memory.
Thinking back, Ignatius realized he had been drawn to Shen Xinghui from the very beginning.
And as time passed, he had only fallen deeper.
The grand doors slowly opened, and Shen Xinghui entered the room.
He was dressed in a pristine white tuxedo, walking arm in arm with Mr. Henry.
Without a father of his own, Shen Xinghui had come to see Jenna and Henry as his family.
They had been reluctant at first, but Ignatius had insisted.
Shen Xinghui’s happiness had to include them as well.
He had even suggested formal adoption, but Jenna and Henry couple had firmly refused.
There was no need for legal paperwork—they already considered Shen Xinghui their son.
