Help! I'm in Another World and the Dragon Man Want Me To Get Pregnant! -
Chapter 87: The Final Trial
Chapter 87: The Final Trial
Even rubbing his back with all his might didn’t seem to help anymore.
Shen Xinghui’s body trembled, curling in on itself.
Desperate to provide some relief, Ignatius cast a healing spell several times, focusing on his lower back and hips where the pain was likely the worst.
Healing magic couldn’t fully erase pain, but it could ease fatigue and dull it slightly.
However, the effect was barely noticeable.
Then, suddenly, Shen Xinghui bend over harder.
The next moment, the bed beneath him was soaked with a rush of fluid.
"His water has broken," the midwife announced, leaning in to check.
"Ahhh—!! Hnghhhhh!!" Shen Xinghui cried out, his body tensing with the overwhelming sensation.
Shen Xinghui could no longer hold back his voice.
His shoulders trembled violently from the pain, and Ignatius held him close, continuing to cast healing spells on his back.
Each time Shen Xinghui’s body tensed, more fluid seemed to escape, soaking the bed further.
"It’s not fully open yet! You mustn’t push with your stomach!"
"I can’t help it!"
"If all the water drains too soon, you’ll only suffer more later! Come now, breathe through it and ease the pressure!"
"Don’t ask the impossible!"
The birth canal still hadn’t fully opened.
It would take more time.
Until then, the midwife insisted Shen Xinghui to hold back, preventing the fluid from escaping too quickly.
But that was easier said than done.
Every time the pain surged, Shen Xinghui’s body instinctively tensed, causing another rush of liquid to come out.
"Xinghui!"
"Ignatius..."
"I’m sorry... I... I can’t do anything."
Ignatius squeezed Shen Xinghui’s hand, gripping it just as tightly in return.
Despite his suffering, Ignatius forced a strained smile.
Even in this state, he could still smile.
"Ignatius... Please, give me strength."
"Strength?"
"Tell me to keep going. Tell me you love me. Cheer me on... so I can keep fighting."
Was that really enough?
Ignatius nodded and gently placed his hand over Shen Xinghui’s swollen belly, stroking it with care—offering comfort to both Shen Xinghui and the little life that was growing inside him.
"Xinghui, you’re going to be okay. I’m right here with you."
"Yeah..."
"When the baby is born, the three of us will finally sleep together."
"That sounds... nice."
"And sometimes, I’d like a night with just the two of us, too."
"Haha... I like the sound of that."
Shen Xinghui laughed weakly, and Ignatius felt the slightest relief.
He wiped the sweat from Shen Xinghui’s forehead, held his hand, and gently rubbed his back.
He spoke about the future—about raising their child, the struggles they might face, and the places they could visit together.
"Do you think it’s a boy?"
"It doesn’t matter. As long as they’re healthy, that’s all that matters."
Although Shen Xinghui kept crying and still screamed at the midwife, insisting "not yet!" over and over, he was able to talk with Ignatius.
At this moment, the only thing Ignatius could do was help distract him from the pain.
Each time Ignatius placed his hands on Shen Xinghui’s belly, he would whispered, "It’s warm," with a faint smile.
"They’re strong, I just know it. They’re still moving even now."
"I can feel it, too," Ignatius murmured, his palm resting on the firm swell of Shen Xinghui’s stomach.
Then, at last—
"Oh! It’s fully open now. Let’s move you!"
The midwife’s joyful announcement filled the room.
Shen Xinghui let out a breath, exhausted but relieved, his face weary yet smiling.
The hardest part was about to begin.
Separated from Shen Xinghui, who had been taken to the birthing room, Ignatius was left trembling with fear.
The midwife had told him that while the baby was considered small for a Dragon Man, it was still large for a human to deliver.
Shen Xinghui possessed skills related to childbirth, but even so, a first birth would take time.
If he could have stayed by Shen Xinghui’s side—if he could have watched over him—he would have felt at ease.
But the midwife refused to let him remain in the room, telling him that if he stayed, his worry might actually be the thing to kill him.
So, he was sent to the waiting room, where he found his parents.
His mother stood with quiet strength, and in that moment, she looked more dependable than ever.
"Mother, is childbirth always that painful?"
He hadn’t known it would be so painful.
How could he have asked Shen Xinghui to bear his child?
A human carrying the child of another species—one of the largest species, no less—it should have been obvious that, skills or not, the birth would be anything but easy.
Why hadn’t he realized it sooner?
"If it meant putting Xinghui through this suffering, I should never have wished for a child."
"No, Ignatius. That’s not true."
His mother pulled him into a firm embrace, her voice unwavering.
"Xinghui wanted this as well. The child being born is both of yours. You must love and cherish them more than anyone else in the world."
"Mother..."
When was the last time she had held him like this?
Not since he was a small child.
The warmth of her hand rubbing his back brought distant memories flooding back.
Had his mother suffered like this when she gave birth to him?
Had she cherished him as deeply as he now cherished his own child?
And his father—had he also trembled with fear and helplessness, just as Ignatius did now?
He had taken his parents’ love for granted.
Believing himself to be an adult, he had stopped seeing it, as though it were simply a given.
"Don’t worry. Xinghui is strong. He’ll be alright. And the midwife is with him," his mother reassured him.
Ignatius nodded his head and prayed.
Shen Xinghui was strong—so, he couldn’t allow himself to be weak.
There was nothing he could do now but believe.
The wait felt endless.
Then, suddenly, it happened—so quickly that he had no time to prepare himself.
The midwife assistant entered the room while carrying a small delicate newborn boy.
