Help! I'm in Another World and the Dragon Man Want Me To Get Pregnant! -
Chapter 86: The Beginning of New Life
Chapter 86: The Beginning of New Life
Time flowed peacefully.
Shen Xinghui’s belly grew larger by the day, swelling to the point of almost bursting as he reached the final stage of pregnancy.
It was said that Dragon Man children were significantly larger than human children, and the sheer size of his belly made that fact evident.
That night, a slight movement woke up Ignatius.
He turned around to see Shen Xinghui’s curled up, his face twisted in discomfort.
Cradling his swollen stomach, he exhaled in shallow breaths.
"Xinghui?"
"Ignatius...My...stomach..."
The sweat beaded on his forehead.
Ignatius who is unsure of what to do could only flounder helplessly.
All he could manage was to grasp Shen Xinghui’s’s hand and rub his shoulder in a feeble attempt to provide comfort.
"Xinghui! I’m sorry... I’ll go get the midwife..."
Realizing the urgency, Ignatius bolted out of the room and rushed to the midwife’s quarters.
Without hesitation, he threw open the door, scooped up the half-asleep elderly woman, and ran back.
This was the second time he had done this, and by now, she simply let herself to be carried without protest.
Once inside, he set her down and anxiously turned to Shen Xinghui.
The midwife, however, merely smiled as she placed a hand on Shen Xinghui’s belly and nodding to herself.
At that moment, Shen Xinghui’s face was calm, as if the pain from earlier had completely vanished.
"There’s still some time before things get serious," she said.
"Really?"
"Yes. Until then, you should eat something while you still can."
"...Huh?"
Her casual tone made it sound as if there was no urgency at all, which baffled Shen Xinghui.
He felt panicked, yet the midwife showed no signs of concern.
It was an odd contrast—while he and Ignatius were both on edge, time itself seemed to move at an unhurried pace.
Even the midwife, the most experienced one here, remained entirely composed.
Shen Xinghui and Ignatius exchanged bewildered glances, their expressions mirroring each other’s uncertainty.
Still, the midwife’s advice made sense.
If Shen Xinghui could eat now, it was better to do so before labor progressed further.
So, Ignatius quickly go to the kitchen, gathering some pieces of bread, fruit, and a drink before returning.
By the time he arrived, Shen Xinghui was wincing in pain again.
"Xinghui, are you okay?"
"Ignatius, ah...!"
Ignatius felt utterly useless—what could he possibly do?
Was there a position that might ease Shen Xinghui’s pain?
Anything at all to make him more comfortable?
"You can rub his lower back," the midwife murmured while dozing off in a nearby chair as if this were just another ordinary night.
Setting the food down on a side table, Ignatius followed her advice and began rubbing Shen Xinghui’s lower back.
"Ah... that actually feels nice," Shen Xinghui murmured, a strained but genuine smile appearing on his face through the pain.
If something this simple could bring Shen Xinghui even the slightest relief, Ignatius would gladly do it for as long as necessary.
So, every time Shen Xinghui’s pain flared up, Ignatius stayed by his side and massaging his back and hips.
As time passed, Shen Xinghui’s expressions shifted—he was still in pain, but now there was a little bit more control, a little more resilience in his face.
He even managed to eat some food.
The midwife who is still lounging on the chair nodded her head approvingly.
"Everything is progressing smoothly."
The midwife placed her hands on Shen Xinghui’s belly and a pleased expression on her face.
It seemed that everything was progressing smoothly toward the birth.
"Just a little bit longer, Ignatius."
"Yeah... it won’t be long now."
"I wonder if it’s a boy or a girl."
"Either way, I know they’ll be adorable just like you, Xinghui."
"You already sounding like a doting father, huh?"
Ignatius chuckled softly, and Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but smile along with him.
Every time he touched Shen Xinghui, even beyond just rubbing his back, it seemed to bring him some comfort.
Ignatius wished he could take away Shen Xinghui pain, but since that was impossible, the least thing he could do was try to ease it in whatever way he could.
However, as the sun climbed higher in the sky, Shen Xinghui’s pain grew unbearable.
He curled up and breathing heavily, groaning as waves of contractions overtook him.
All Ignatius could do was rub his lower back and wipe away the sweat dripping down his face.
There had to be something—anything—that could help.
If only he could take even a fraction of the pain for himself.
"Xinghui, I’m here. I’m right here with you."
"I know, Ignatius... I’ll do my best."
Even with his face drenched in sweat, Shen Xinghui still managed to give him a smile.
Despite the agony, he continued to push forward.
How strong he was.
How deeply he loved.
Ignatius clutched his hand tightly, feeling powerless.
All he could do was whisper, "I love you."
That was all he had to offer.
And yet, it felt so insufficient—so useless—compared to what Shen Xinghui was enduring.
"Hmm, the birth canal has opened quite a bit, but it’s still too narrow," the midwife observed.
"Will it... actually open enough?"
"Of course it will. Here, drink something sweet. It’ll help things along."
"I don’t really want to drink anything..."
"Sugar is important. It’ll help speed things up."
Shen Xinghui’s face turned pale.
He had never resented the midwife more than he did in that moment, watching her hold out the drink with absolute insistence.
"But I’m already in so much pain..." Shen Xinghui murmured, looking at her warily.
For a moment, the midwife looked almost menacing.
Shen Xinghui squeezed Ignatius’s hand tightly, fear flickering in his eyes.
Protectively, Ignatius stepped between them, but there was nothing he could do to stop the inevitable.
He cursed his own helplessness.
As the hours passed, Shen Xinghui’s pain only intensified.
His grip on Ignatius’s hand became so strong that it felt like his bones might break.
The sheer strength in that hold stunned him.
