Chapter 67: A Night of Fear and Forbidden Desire

"W-What was that?"

Shen Xinghui’s entire body shook, his teeth chattering from fear.

Ignatius felt a pang of sympathy—come to think of it, they had yet to encounter a single monster since Shen Xinghui arrived in this world.

That in itself was unusual.

This was his first encounter with a monster.

No wonder he was terrified.

"I’m going to take care of it."

There was no way they’d be able to sleep peacefully with the threat lingering outside.

And considering Shen Xinghui’s lack of stamina, he needed proper rest.

Ignatius stood and peered outside.

Judging by the growls, it was likely a wolf-type monster.

The barrier around the tent would be enough to keep them safe, but the real problem was if more arrived.

These creatures tended to call for reinforcements when they deemed a hunt necessary.

If that happened, it would become a nuisance.

Just as he was about to step out, a small hand suddenly grabbed his ankle.

Looking down, he saw Shen Xinghui clutching his leg and shaking his head frantically.

His trembling fingers clung tightly, silently pleading, Don’t go.

Of course, he was afraid.

How could he not be?

His world had never known monsters.

Ignatius sighed softly before pulling the trembling figure into a gentle embrace.

Shen Xinghui was shaking so badly his teeth still chattered.

His wide, dark eyes shimmered with unshed tears, threatening to spill over at any moment.

Holding him close, Ignatius reaffirmed his resolve—he had to protect this fragile warmth in his arms.

"It’s okay. I set up a barrier around the tent. Nothing will get through."

Shen Xinghui hesitated. "Then..."

Ignatius could almost hear the unspoken words—Then don’t go.

For a moment, he wavered.

He didn’t want to leave, either.

But he had no choice.

Standing up, he moved toward the tent entrance.

Lifting the flap, he caught a glimpse of the monster outside.

Shen Xinghui’s eyes widened even further in shock.

"If you’re scared, stay inside. This will be over soon."

Despite his fear, Shen Xinghui poked his head out of the tent, his body still shaking as he stared at the creature.

Even though he was terrified, he still wanted to see.

A deafening howl pierced the night.

"ROOOOOOOAAAAARR!"

The Fire Wolf charged forward, its movements still unsteady.

Judging by its size, it was still young.

That in itself was strange.

A monster this young would normally be part of a pack, learning how to hunt from its elders.

It was unusual to see one alone.

Had it been separated from its pack?

There were many reasons why a monster might be alone.

Some were exiled after challenging their pack’s leader.

Others became separated due to chaos within their group.

In the worst case, the entire pack had been wiped out, leaving only this one behind.

If it was the latter, that was concerning.

Monsters had their own defined territories, and if something had disrupted that balance, it could mean trouble.

It might have been caused by humans or other races, or worse—an unknown monster that wasn’t supposed to exist in this area could have appeared.

Hopefully, this wouldn’t turn into something troublesome.

With a swift final blow, Ignatius finished off the Fire Wolf and pulled his sword from its body.

"What a nuisance," he muttered bitterly, annoyed at how the peaceful night had been disturbed.

As he sheathed his sword, Shen Xinghui suddenly dashed toward him.

His body still trembled with lingering fear as he practically stumbled into Ignatius’s arms, clinging to him desperately.

His fragile, shaking body made Ignatius’s chest tighten with emotion.

"It’s over now, Xinghui," he reassured him gently.

However, Shen Xinghui shook his head. "No... that’s not..."

Ignatius tilted his head in confusion.

He had thought Shen Xinghui was afraid of the monster and was trying to comfort him, but the way he clung to him, still trembling, suggested something else.

His dark, tear-filled eyes held an emotion that Ignatius couldn’t quite grasp.

"You’re hurt," Shen Xinghui whispered.

"Hm?"

"You... you’re not injured, are you?"

A rush of heat spread through Ignatius’s chest.

He hadn’t expected that.

This kind of monster was nothing to him—so insignificant that he hadn’t even considered the possibility of getting hurt.

And yet, Shen Xinghui had been worried about him.

Still shaking, Shen Xinghui ran his hands over Ignatius’s body, as if checking for wounds.

The sight of him—so small, so frightened, yet still concerned for someone else—was overwhelming.

A powerful, almost dizzying emotion surged inside Ignatius.

Without thinking, he tightened his arms around the fragile body in his embrace.

"I’m fine," he murmured. "I’m not hurt anywhere."

"Thank... goodness..."

"Thank you," Ignatius added softly. "For worrying about me."

The moment those words left his lips, a single tear slipped down Shen Xinghui’s cheek.

And in that instant—Ignatius’s restraint snapped.

Pulling him close, he captured his lips in a kiss.

Just as he had imagined, they were soft.

His breath, his taste—sweet like honey.

He deepened the kiss, parting Shen Xinghui’s lips and letting his tongue explore and tease.

The intoxicating scent of him, the way his small body trembled in his arms—it made Ignatius feel lightheaded, as if drunk on desire.

His black eyes, now hazy with heat, shimmered under the moonlight.

His flushed cheeks, the way his lips parted ever so slightly, revealing a hint of his delicate tongue—it was too much.

A dangerous thrill coursed through Ignatius, an illicit pleasure like biting into forbidden fruit.

And then, realization struck.

With a sharp intake of breath, he pulled away.

"I... I’m sorry!"

Shen Xinghui was supposed to feel disgusted at the idea of intimacy with another man.

Or at least, that was what Ignatius had assumed.

Yet, as he gazed at the dazed, vulnerable expression on Shen Xinghui’s face, there was no sign of revulsion.

Even so, hesitation must have lingered within him.

If not outright fear.

It was only natural.

Physical contact with someone one did not desire was unbearable even for someone as experienced as Ignatius.
