Chapter 62: Kaelion’s Arrival
Chapter 62: Kaelion’s Arrival
The sight made him feel faint, and he let himself collapse onto the bed.
Despite everything, a profound sense of satisfaction filled him, and a tired smile crept onto his face.
"You’re glowing. The child is a boy. They’re cleaning him up now, so you’ll see him soon," the midwife reassured him.
"Ah... okay. Oh, should I... breastfeed him? Do I even have milk?" Shen Xinghui asked, suddenly concerned.
"If you produce any, that would be best. Though even women often don’t produce milk right away," she explained.
Curious, Shen Xinghui tentatively pressed his chest.
He felt a slight fullness and wondered aloud, "Maybe I can?"
"Let’s give it a try," the midwife encouraged.
Her hands remained on his abdomen, providing healing energy, though it seemed like his natural healing abilities were also aiding the recovery.
Soon, the midwife returned with the newborn baby who is still naked and fragile.
Shen Xinghui held him and marveling at how tiny and delicate he was.
He’s so small... so fragile.
I’m afraid I’ll hurt him.
He opened his robe and brought the baby closer to his chest gently.
When the baby’s lips instinctively sought out and latched on it, Shen Xinghui was stunned.
"He’s drinking!"
"Indeed, he is!" the midwife said with a proud smile.
Shen Xinghui’s treatment finally seemed to be complete, and the midwife watched with sparkling eyes.
The baby’s small mouth latched onto Shen Xinghui’s nipple with surprising determination and sucking t with more strength than expected.
Each pull brought a strange, tingling sensation, and the tension in his chest began to ease.
There was no doubt about it—the baby was feeding successfully.
"But, wait... this kind of hurts," he murmured.
He gently detached the baby and shifted him to the other side.
This time, too, the baby latched on adeptly and drank without issue.
Eventually, both sides were completely emptied, and when there was no more milk to be had, the baby released on his own.
He seemed content.
"That’s amazing! Most people struggle to get even a little milk at first!" the midwife exclaimed.
"What do you do if it doesn’t work?" Shen Xinghui asked.
"In that case, we provide alternative milk," she explained.
"I see," he nodded.
Although it wasn’t powdered formula, having a substitute available brought some relief to Shen Xinghui.
The baby resembled Ignatius, with black hair and dark eyes.
He was small, warm, soft, and utterly adorable.
Shen Xinghui couldn’t stop smiling, overwhelmed with joy.
"We’ll dress him in swaddling clothes and take him to Ignatius. You’ll need to rest here for a while longer. Once your condition stabilizes, we’ll move you to the bedroom," the midwife instructed.
"I can go on my own—"
"Absolutely not!" she interrupted firmly.
Her stern tone silenced Shen Xinghui.
At some point, they had dressed his lower half in something akin to a diaper, which felt incredibly embarrassing.
Is this some kind of weird game?
he wondered, mortified.
The baby who is now in the care of a nanny, was dressed in white swaddling clothes and taken out of the room.
Watching them leave, Shen Xinghui felt the tension leave his body as he finally relaxed.
"You did wonderfully," the midwife said.
"It was... kind of humiliating, though," Shen Xinghui admitted.
"Not at all! Most people scream like wild animals during labor," she replied with a laugh.
Though she chuckled, Shen Xinghui couldn’t.
The pain had truly been that intense.
As instructed, Shen Xinghui lay down quietly, occasionally feeling the midwife’s hand on his abdomen while drinking water to quench his intense thirst.
He felt a chaotic mix of emotions—relief, exhilaration, and exhaustion all at once.
He remained in this state until the door to his room opened.
"Ah..."
Ignatius entered, his eyes brimming with tears.
Without hesitation, he rushed to Shen Xinghui’s side and leaned over him, wrapping him in a tight embrace.
"Thank you, Xinghui! I’m truly... I’m so sorry for everything you went through," Ignatius said, his voice trembling.
"It’s okay. I’m fine now, so don’t worry about me," Shen Xinghui reassured him softly.
As painful as the experience had been, he had survived.
That was enough.
Looking toward the doorway, Shen Xinghui noticed the Queen with tears in her eyes, being supported by the King.
He hadn’t realized they had come, and when he tried to sit up to greet them, Ignatius quickly stopped him in a fluster.
The baby was in the Queen’s arms, laughing softly.
"Shen Xinghui."
"Your Majesty."
"It must have been so hard for you. Truly, I don’t know how to thank you."
"There’s no need for thanks," Shen Xinghui replied.
This was something he had wished for, and now that it was over, all that remained was happiness.
A warm smile spread across his face.
"Xinghui, you’ve done so well," the King said.
"No, Your Majesty," Shen Xinghui responded, smiling at the King, whose eyes were slightly red.
The baby returned to Shen Xinghui’s arms from the Queen’s.
The little one’s large, sparkling black eyes gazed at him, and a joyful smile lit up his face.
Does he know I’m his parent?
Shen Xinghui wondered.
The thought made his cheeks soften further.
"He’s so adorable," someone said.
"Yes, truly adorable," another agreed.
"Even so small, he’s clearly a Dragon Man," someone pointed out.
Noticing the glimmer of gold pattern in the baby’s eyelashes and forehead, Shen Xinghui chuckled.
Ignatius joined in, laughing alongside him.
"What should we name him?" Shen Xinghui asked.
"It is customary for the mother to choose the name," Ignatius explained.
"Really?" Shen Xinghui was surprised.
He began to think.
Ignatius’s full name was Ignatius Chernobog Jörbahamut, right?
That meant the baby’s name should match that style.
"How about Kaelion?" Shen Xinghui suggested. "It’s just something that came to mind."
"Kaelion?" Ignatius asked.
It was a name Shen Xinghui often used in RPGs.
There was that random name generator feature, and he had picked it because it sounded nice.
Over time, he had grown attached to it.
