Chapter 56: Meeting the Royals
Chapter 56: Meeting the Royals
Ignatius’ words were deeply reassuring, warming Shen Xinghui’s heart.
He felt like the luckiest spouse alive.
Yet, guilt and unease crept in.
Ignatius wasn’t just anyone—he was the kingdom’s prince and its only heir.
He had responsibilities, things he was supposed to inherit, and Shen Xinghui couldn’t shake the feeling that letting Ignatius give all of that up for him was wrong.
The uneasiness gnawed at him, and soon his stomach began to tighten, almost as if the child inside him could sense his turmoil.
The sensation was a soft, persistent tug just below his navel.
It felt as if the baby was trying to tell him to calm down.
"It’s fine. It’s okay. There’s nothing to worry about," Shen Xinghui repeated to himself over and over.
He told himself that even if he wasn’t accepted, the baby would be.
Regardless of his own background, their child was still Ignatius’ offspring.
He repeated it like a mantra, trying to comfort himself.
By midday the next day, Shen Xinghui found himself seated in the reception room beside Ignatius.
The midwife had also joined them, standing nearby for support.
He had wanted to wear something formal to make a good impression, but both Ignatius and the midwife firmly objected. "You shouldn’t wear anything that puts pressure on your stomach," they had said, and in the end, he was dressed in a loose robe that flowed freely over his body.
It was a sensible choice, given his situation. Thanks to his Cycle Acceleration and Growth skill, things were progressing far faster than usual.
When he had woken up that morning, his belly was noticeably rounder, prompting him to scream, "Ahhh!" in surprise, which in turn startled Ignatius.
The midwife reassured him that everything was progressing smoothly.
However, since Shen Xinghui’s pregnancy was condensed into mere days rather than months, the changes happening to his body were rapid and intense.
By now, his belly had grown even larger than it had been that morning.
Tight clothing was out of the question, so he wore only a loosely wrapped belly support to minimize strain.
As nerves set in, Shen Xinghui felt his stomach tighten again, just below his belly button.
It seemed that his baby could sense his anxiety and tension all too well.
He took a deep breath, reminding himself of the importance of staying calm and composed—for the baby’s sake as well as his own.
"Stay calm. Everything will be fine," he thought to himself, trying to focus on maintaining a steady heart.
Soon, there was a knock on the door, followed by the butler’s voice.
Shen Xinghui grasped Ignatius’ hand tightly, exhaling deeply, doing his best to steady his nerves.
When he saw the two people brought in by the butler, he couldn’t help but let out a small "Ah."
They resembled Ignatius so much.
The king looked almost identical to Ignatius.
With his short black hair and dark eyes, it was easy to imagine Ignatius looking just like this when he grew older.
The queen, on the other hand, was stunningly beautiful.
Her light brown hair framed her face, and her large, slightly drooping green eyes radiated a gentle, kind aura.
She appeared serene, compassionate, and full of grace.
Both of them smiled warmly at Shen Xinghui.
He stood up, feeling a little more at ease.
At the very least, he didn’t think they were going to reject him outright.
Greeting was important, no matter what.
He bowed his head and introduced himself.
"Ah...!"
He stumbled over his words, feeling flustered.
As he panicked, a hand gently clasped his.
Looking up, he saw the queen smiling warmly while holding his hand.
"Don’t worry, Xinghui. Don’t look so anxious. Your anxiety will affect the baby as well," she said softly.
"I..."
"Your anxiety is very clear. Don’t make such a troubled face. Smile, my dear son."
Her kind words made Shen Xinghui’s heart swell, and his eyes misted over with emotion.
The king who is standing beside the queen, nodded his head calmly and gently patted Shen Xinghui’s shoulder.
"I hear my son has been well taken care of. Thank you, Xinghui."
"It’s nothing..."
Shen Xinghui struggled to speak, overwhelmed with joy.
How was it that everyone in this world was so kind?
How could they be so warm to someone like him, who had nothing to offer?
"Oh my, you poor thing!"
The queen quickly retrieved a handkerchief, wiping the tears from Shen Xinghui’s cheek.
She smiled softly and embraced him, comforting him.
"Now, now, you should sit down. It’s not good for your body."
After being gently guided into a seat, Shen Xinghui looked up at the couple once more.
Ignatius sat beside him, keeping a reassuring touch on some part of him at all times.
The queen chuckled softly as she looked at them.
"Well, Ignatius, you’re such a troubled child. You’re making things difficult for Xinghui by holding him so tightly."
"Ah, no, that’s not..."
"Ignatius, you’re about to become a parent. You need to remain calm and collected. You can’t be so flustered," the king advised.
"Don’t be too possessive either. Xinghui will already be busy raising a child. Don’t make him worry about your childish whims as well," the queen added gently.
Ignatius turned red, hanging his head.
It was the first time Shen Xinghui had seen him like this.
It seemed that no matter how old their child was, parents always saw them as their little ones.
"Now, back to you, Xinghui," the king said in a calm voice, his black eyes locked on Shen Xinghui.
"I am Malgrin, Ignatius’ father. And this is my wife, Elira."
"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Xinghui. I heard about you from the old lady, and I simply had to meet you. I know you’re going through a difficult time, so thank you for allowing us to visit."
"It’s an honor to meet you as well! I’m Shen Xinghui. I’ve only been in this world for a few months, so I still don’t understand much, but I’ll learn little by little. I ask for your guidance."
