Chapter 45: A Family’s Proposal and a Prince’s Search

He seemed to have a natural adaptability, and his movements grew more efficient as he learned to eliminate unnecessary steps.

The mistakes disappeared entirely and he began to recognize the regular customer.

Morning customers, those who came for lunch, and patrons who always ordered the same dish—all became familiar faces.

Just as Shen Xinghui remembered them, they, too, grew accustomed to him.

"Xinghui!" some of the regular customer started him calling out affectionately, welcoming him as part of their daily lives.

A month had passed since Shen Xinghui had fled Ignatius’s mansion.

By now, he had fully adjusted to life at the inn and was enjoying his days.

It felt so comfortable that the inn almost seemed like home.

Yet, the ache in his chest hadn’t gone away.

In that month, he assumed Ignatius had completely forgotten about him.

It was what he had wanted, but some part of him still mourned that loss.

Deep down, a foolish part of him had hoped to be searched for, to be missed.

One evening, after the inn had closed for the day, Shen Xinghui was spending time with Jenna and Henry in the kitchen as part of their usual family-like routine.

Unexpectedly, Henry sat across from him, his expression unusually serious.

"Xinghui, do you have a moment?" Henry asked.

"Yes, of course," Shen Xinghui replied, sitting up straight, sensing the weight of the conversation.

Jenna joined them, sitting nearby.

"Have you settled in here?" Henry asked.

"Yes, very much so. Every day has been wonderful," Shen Xinghui answered earnestly.

Henry nodded his head in satisfaction, his expression softening for a moment before returning to seriousness.

"Actually, Jenna and I have been talking about something. If you’re okay with it, how would you feel about becoming our son?"

"What?" Shen Xinghui blinked in surprise, his mind racing to process the unexpected offer.

Did they mean to adopt him?

Him, someone with nothing to his name, as their son?

"As you can see, we don’t have any children of our own," Henry explained. "For a long time, we thought we were fine with that. But seeing you here with us, we realized how much we’d been missing. Having you around has made us feel like this is what it must be like to have a child."

"You’re just so dear to us," Jenna added with a warm smile. "The more we’ve watched you, the more we’ve thought, ’If only someone like Xinghui could be our child.’ So, if it wouldn’t trouble you, would you consider it?"

Both of them spoke with sincerity, their expressions full of love and earnestness.

Shen Xinghui felt a warmth spread through his chest, and tears threatened to fall.

Having never known the kindness of parents before, he found himself deeply moved.

In many ways, Henry and Jenna were his ideal vision of what parents could be.

Over time, he had come to see them as parental figures as well.

However, it wasn’t an easy decision.

Doubts crept into his mind—whether it was right for him to intrude on their lives, whether he’d become a burden.

His overthinking tendencies kicked in, making him hesitant to give a quick answer.

"Take your time," Henry said gently. "We want you to think it over carefully and make a decision by yourself. There’s no rush, and we’re prepared to accept if you say no. Please, don’t feel pressured by us."

"That’s right," Jenna chimed in. "This is just something we feel. You should live your life in the way you want. And even if you choose not to become our son, know that in our hearts, you’re already like one to us."

"Henry... Jenna..." Shen Xinghui whispered, overwhelmed by their kindness.

Tears spilled down his cheeks, and Jenna smiled softly as she wiped them away.

Henry looked on with a warm, approving gaze.

Shen Xinghui let himself savor their heartfelt warmth, treasuring the moment.

The following day, Shen Xinghui went about his morning as usual, handling the inn’s busy rush with ease.

Between the morning and lunch crowds, he used the spare time to clean and wash dishes.

While working, one of their regular lunch customers arrived earlier than usual.

"Welcome!" Shen Xinghui greeted cheerfully.

"Oh, Xinghui! Perfect timing!" the man said, sounding excited.

"Huh? What is it?" Shen Xinghui asked, puzzled.

The man who had come into the inn didn’t seem to be there for a meal.

Shen Xinghui tilted his head in confusion, and Henry, who had been watching, raised his gaze as well.

"What’s going on?" Henry asked.

"They just put up a notice from the town hall," the man replied. "Apparently, it’s from Prince Ignatius."

At the mention of Ignatius’s name, Shen Xinghui’s heart clenched, sending a painful jolt through his chest.

He instinctively gripped at his shirt, overwhelmed by a swirl of emotions—an odd mix of sadness, anxiety, fear, and tension that made him feel as though he might cry.

Henry, noticing Shen Xinghui’s state, prompted the man to continue.

"What does the notice say?"

"Apparently, he’s looking for someone. A young man in his early twenties with black hair and black eyes. Someone from another world."

Both Henry and Jenna turned their eyes toward Shen Xinghui.

He could feel their stares and knew he must look pale.

He was trembling and he was aware of it.

Why was Ignatius searching for him?

After a whole month, why now?

Was he angry that Shen Xinghui had left without a word?

Or was he worried about his sudden disappearance?

A thousand thoughts raced through Shen Xinghui’s mind, but he couldn’t summon the courage to face Ignatius.

He had been rejected once already—what kind of expression or feelings could he possibly bring to meet Ignatius again?

"I can’t say for certain if it’s him," Henry said quietly. "But for now, please keep this to yourself."

"Hm? Sure, that’s fine," the man replied with a shrug. "But isn’t it likely that others are also suspicious?"

"Even so, I ask for a little time," Henry insisted.
