Chapter 27: A Safe Haven

Without further explanation, he took Shen Xinghui by the hand and led him into a sturdy-looking building.

The place had a rugged vibe and when they stepped inside, the atmosphere inside turned heavy as numerous muscular people turned their sharp gazes toward them.

Shen Xinghui instinctively clung to Ignatius and wrapped his arms around his waist.

In response, Ignatius gently patted Shen Xinghui’s head, offering silent reassurance.

"Ignatius!" a voice called out and soon the room was filled with cries of welcome.

The tension from moments before dissipated and it was replaced by a warm and lively atmosphere.

"Thank goodness! With you here, we might finally be able to take care of that thing!" one of the burly men exclaimed.

"Guildmaster, is something had happened?" Ignatius asked as he leading Shen Xinghui to the counter while keeping a protective arm around him.

The man behind the counter was a Beast Man with wolf-like features.

He had sharp pointed ears and a fluffy tail that matched his reddish-brown hair.

Although he had a roguish air around him, but his demeanor seemed approachable.

"Ignatius, you’ve come at just the right time," the Beast Man, whom Ignatius addressed as "Guildmaster," began. "A Rank A Monster has appeared on the road."

Hearing his words, Ignatius’s calm expression immediately changed and a trace of concern flickering across his face.

"What kind of monster?" he asked, his tone grave.

"A Yiazmat," the Guildmaster said solemnly.

Standing beside Ignatius, Shen Xinghui heard the sharp intake of breath as Ignatius processed the news.

"So that’s why everyone’s stuck here," Ignatius muttered.

"Yeah, the inns are all full of people now," the Guildmaster replied.

"What about the rooms upstairs?" Ignatius asked.

"Available, but only for one person," the Guildmaster informed him.

"That’s fine," Ignatius replied without hesitation.

"Wait, Ignatius?" Shen Xinghui interjected, his surprise evident.

His voice seemed to draw attention for the first time and the Guildmaster behind the counter turned his gaze to him.

"What’s this? You’ve brought your lover along?" the Guildmaster teased with a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

"L-lover?!" Ignatius spluttered, his face flushing bright red. "No, it’s not like that!"

The Guildmaster chuckled knowingly while Shen Xinghui tilted his head in confusion, not quite understanding the exchange.

"It’s the first time I’ve seen you bring someone along," the Guildmaster remarked as hr leaning forward over the counter to get a better look at Shen Xinghui. "Where did you pick up someone so adorable like this?"

"It’s not like that!" Ignatius shot back, his voice firm. "I rescued him. We’re on our way to the capital."

"Rescued?" The Guildmaster moved even closer, studying Shen Xinghui intently.

After a moment, Ignatius leaned in and quietly explained the situation.

The Guildmaster nodded his head while crossed his arms.

"Interesting. That’s a rare case. But you’d better be careful. Someone as cute as him could attract trouble."

"Uh, excuse me?" Shen Xinghui muttered, feeling self-conscious.

Why did he seem so attractive to everyone in this world?

He’d always thought of himself as fairly ordinary.

"Guildmaster, I’ll take a room," Ignatius said, turning back to the Guildmaster. "Xinghui will stay here. No matter who comes knocking, he is not to leave the room."

"Wait, what?" Shen Xinghui blinked in confusion.

What did Ignatius mean by that?

The Guildmaster, however, seemed to understand and nodded his head knowingly.

"I need to go to deal with the monster as soon as possible," Ignatius said, looking at Shen Xinghui. "It won’t take long. Stay here and wait for me."

"Uh, okay, but..." Shen Xinghui trailed off, his curiosity piqued.

Why couldn’t he leave the room?

What kind of danger was Ignatius anticipating?

Ignatius leaned close and murmured into Shen Xinghui’s ear, "Remember what we heard in the last town? About the possibility of slave traders?"

"Oh," Shen Xinghui whispered, the realization dawning on him.

He recalled the conversation.

As someone unique in this world, there was a risk he could be targeted by those who dealt in illicit trades.

If he were captured, the consequences would be dire.

"The slave traders often deal with rogue adventurers. They are like to come frequently to the Adventurer Guild," Ignatius explained. "This place is a hub for adventurers taking on quests, so it’s possible such people are here."

Shen Xinghui’s heart sank and he glanced around nervously.

Every person in the room suddenly looked suspicious, like they might be one of those rogue adventurers.

His body tensed with fear until the Guildmaster placed his big hand on his head.

"Don’t worry, kid," the Guildmaster said gruffly. "This guy here is a Rank A Adventurer and one of the best at that. He’ll take care of the problem and be back in no time."

Ignatius handed over the room key and Shen Xinghui followed him upstairs.

The assigned room was a modest single room that looks quite cozy, with a shower and toilet included.

"I’ll set up a barrier here," Ignatius said, closing the door behind them. "As long as you don’t open the door, no one can come in. But if you open it, you’ll be inviting them in, so be careful."

"And you?" Shen Xinghui asked hesitantly. "You’re really going to fight that dangerous monster?"

His voice trembled as he recalled the events of the previous night.

Fear gripped him at the thought of Ignatius getting hurt—or worse—not returning.

If that happened, Shen Xinghui would be alone in this unfamiliar world.

Ignatius seemed to sense his unease.

He placed a gentle hand on Shen Xinghui’s head and ruffled his hair with a calming touch.

"I’m not going today," Ignatius said softly. "First, we’ll head into town and get a magic bag."

"A magic bag?" Shen Xinghui repeated, confused.

"I’ll move some of the food you cooked into it," Ignatius explained. "That way, you’ll have enough to last if I’m delayed to come back. We’ll also stock up on drinks and other essentials. And I’ll leave you some money."

"Listen!" Shen Xinghui’s voice trembled with urgency.
