Chapter 25: Camping with Ignatius

Shen Xinghui looked at his arm—there was nothing there.

So, he wasn’t really part of this world, even though he was living in it.

It was like being a ghost.

"Some people hope you don’t have it. Most of them are criminals."

"So, to them, I’m a desirable target?"

"Yeah."

The thought of how dangerous this world was made Shen Xinghui’s heart race.

What scared him the most was not knowing if such people were nearby.

"Well, as long as you stay by Ignatius, you’ll be fine. No one would be foolish enough to go against a Dragon Man."

"I see... is that so?"

Shen Xinghui looked up at Ignatius, who raised an eyebrow.

Then, he flashed a sharp grin.

"Dragon Man is a strong race, with powerful physical strength and high magical abilities. People don’t oppose them unless they’re looking for trouble. We’re relatively peaceful, so as long as you don’t anger us, you’ll be fine."

Shen Xinghui had no doubts about how gentle Ignatius’s.

He had never seen this person get truly angry.

He smiled gently while he continued eating and Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but smile back at him.

..

The day after leaving town, Shen Xinghui and Ignatius camped out in the wilderness.

The next town was too far to reach, even at a brisk pace, so they had no choice.

Ignatius assured Shen Xinghui that they would secure a suitable spot early and set up camp.

To Shen Xinghui’s amazement, Ignatius pulled an entire tent out of his small waist pouch.

The tent was incredibly spacious.

Shen Xinghui who is 170 centimeters tall, figured that about five people his size could comfortably lie down inside.

Even for Ignatius, who was more than two meters tall, there would be room for at least three people.

It was that large.

For sleeping, a thin rug was spread out on the tent floor, along with blankets.

Ignatius explained that, given the current season, this setup would suffice.

When Shen Xinghui stepped on the rug, he found it soft and fluffy, with long fibers that cushioned his feet.

Since they had pitched the tent on naturally springy grass, it promised a comfortable sleep.

The rug also helped block the chill from the ground beneath them.

For dinner, they set up a simple table and chairs under a tarp that extended from the tent.

Shen Xinghui began laying out the dishes and drinks.

Tonight’s meal included spiced fried white fish, a salmon salad, and a chilled soup in a secure container.

The soup had peeled cherry tomatoes floating in it, adding to its visual appeal.

Along with the meal, they had purchased bread to complete the spread.

He was afraid that Ignatius might still be hungry, so he also brought out some fried chicken, which Ignatius had praised earlier.

When Ignatius saw the table, his face lit up with unmistakable delight.

"This looks delicious," he said, his voice filled with genuine appreciation.

Before long, they said, "Let’s eat," and began their meal.

Watching Ignatius eating happily was oddly satisfying for Shen Xinghui.

Ignatius devoured the food heartily, enjoying every bite, even though Shen Xinghui’s cooking was nothing more than simple homemade dishes.

Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but think about his grandmother, who had taught him how to cook.

She’d never imagined her lessons would come in handy in another world.

After the meal, Shen Xinghui took care of the dishes.

He fetched water from a nearby stream and rubbed a small mineral-like stone against a sponge, which instantly foamed up.

This was the soap version of this world and doubled as a dishwashing detergent.

It was long-lasting and environmentally friendly.

It’s also safe to be released into rivers or the ground, where it supposedly even acts as a nutrient.

After washing and drying the dishes, Shen Xinghui packed them back into the waist pouch.

Around this time, Ignatius returned, having finished setting up a protective barrier around their campsite.

"I’ve placed a barrier around the tarp and tent. This will keep us safe, even if monsters appear," Ignatius explained.

"Thank you," Shen Xinghui replied earnestly, feeling a sense of relief.

Although Shen Xinghui couldn’t see it himself, Ignatius assured him that a protective barrier had been set up around the campsite.

Meanwhile, Ignatius’s steed, Clarion, knelt down partially under the tarp with a calm yet alert posture.

Ignatius explained that tying a creature as intelligent and powerful as a unicorn to a tree would only make it vulnerable.

Free movement was crucial for such a majestic and valiant creature.

Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but admire Clarion’s bravery, strength, and beauty.

He silently admitted that the unicorn was undoubtedly more capable in battle than he was.

"Let’s get some rest tonight," Ignatius said. "We’ll reach the next town early tomorrow. Sleeping in a tent can be tiring."

"Understood," Shen Xinghui replied, following Ignatius’s lead into the tent.

Inside the tent, Shen Xinghui stretched out on the soft rug and pulled a blanket over himself.

He felt a childlike excitement bubbling up, reminiscent of his school days.

"This is so soft and comfortable! It’s incredibly cozy," he said.

"Is that so?" Ignatius replied.

"Yeah! There’s plenty of space, and I can roll around freely," Shen Xinghui added.

To prove his point, he rolled around a little bit, reveling in the plush feeling beneath him.

Ignatius chuckled at the sight, though there was a hint of exasperation in his smile. "I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much. For me, this is just normal."

"The tents feel special in my world," Shen Xinghui explained. "They’re more like an event—something we’d use for fun trips or camping with friends back in school."

"So, sleeping in a tent is an event?" Ignatius asked while lying back and staring at the tent’s ceiling, his expression bemused.

Shen Xinghui who is lying beside him, gradually closes his eyes.

As sleep overtook him, he drifted into dreams without realizing how much time had passed.

A loud, creaking sound—like wood being torn apart—jolted Shen Xinghui awake.
