Chapter 104: Side Story: Qi Yu and Two Sovereign (Part 2)
"Wow! When did you come here? And how did you end up with Ignatius?"
Shen Xinghui couldn’t suppress his growing excitement.
His words tumbled out hastily, making Qi Yu chuckle with amusement.
"I found him while I was tracking a monster," Ignatius explained. "There was something about him that reminded me of you, so I spoke to him. When he said he was from another world, I invited him to join us."
"You encountered a monster?! Are you okay?" Shen Xinghui asked, concern immediately replacing his excitement.
He knew that if he were to face a monster, he would have no chance of winning.
That fear made him anxious for Qi Yu’s safety.
"Fortunately, I am built a little sturdier than most of people," Qi Yu reassured him. "There is no need to worry."
"In fact," Ignatius added, "when I arrived, he was just about to deliver the finishing blow to the monsy. I didn’t even get a chance to step in."
Shen Xinghui felt a pang of discouragement.
Even though they were both from another world, the difference between them was vast.
That realization made him feel even more pathetic.
"He said he’s only been in this world for about three months and has been camping outside alone, so I invited him over—at least for a meal," Ignatius explained.
"I hesitated to intrude on a family’s gathering," Qi Yu admitted with a gentle smile. "But the chance to speak with someone from my homeland after so long was too tempting to resist. May I stay for a little while?"
"Of course!" Shen Xinghui responded without hesitation.
However, behind him, Kaelion remained tense, visibly unsettled.
Shen Xinghui couldn’t understand why the boy was so frightened of Qi Yu.
It was the first time he had ever seen Kaelion shrink back like this, and it left him feeling a bit bewildered.
"Mother," Kaelion whispered.
"Hmm?"
"Is that person really safe? I mean... is he dangerous?"
"Huh?"
Shen Xinghui was taken aback.
Kaelion was a polite child, especially for a ten-year-old.
He would never say something like that to a stranger.
Should he scold him for being rude?
Just as he was considering it, Qi Yu suddenly broke into a brilliantly amused smile.
"You’re a sharp child," he remarked.
"Um..."
"There’s no need to worry. I have no ill intentions. I’m simply curious—I genuinely just wanted to talk with your mother."
There was something unsettling about the way he said that.
And yet, Shen Xinghui didn’t get a bad impression from him.
Qi Yu turned to him with a slightly troubled expression, his smile tinged with sadness. "But Xinghui, what your kid said it’s not wrong. You really should be more cautious. You must learn to discern whether the people who approach you are truly good or bad."
"Huh? Wait, what do you mean—?"
"That child’s instinctive wariness is not misplaced. You see, my former profession was that of an assassin."
"WHAT?!"
Shen Xinghui’s shocked exclamation echoed through the forest, disappearing into the night.
Now, that very same former assassin was standing beside him, helping prepare curry.
His knife skills were almost mesmerizing—he peeled vegetables with effortless precision and even carved delicate butterflies and flowers into an apple.
Even Kaelion, despite his earlier fear, couldn’t help but stare in fascination, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"So, Qi Yu, you ended up in the Demon Race’s land?" Shen Xinghui asked as he stirred the curry.
"Yes," Qi Yu nodded his head while sitting beside him. "I fell into the Moonlight Castle in the Demon Race’s royal capital."
"The Moonlight Castle?"
Ignatius looked surprised.
"What’s the Moonlight Castle?" Shen Xinghui asked.
"It’s the royal castle of the Demon Race," Ignatius explained. "The Demon King’s castle."
"Demon King?!"
Well, it made sense that the ruler of the Demon Race would be called the Demon King, but the moment he heard the title, Shen Xinghui’s mind jumped to classic RPG villains.
A massive, terrifying, and definitely not human-colored man.
Qi Yu seemed to guess what he was thinking and he chuckled in amusement.
"The Demon King looks just like us, Xinghui," he said. "The only differences are a pair of horns and a thin tail."
"Ah... haha."
Shen Xinghui let out an awkward laugh.
That was a little embarrassing.
"The Moonlight Castle is at the center of the world, bordering all nations. It was a very quiet place," Qi Yu said. "I fell right into the Demon King’s bedchamber."
"Were you alright?" Ignatius asked, concern evident in his voice. "That country is... A little bit special. I’ve heard they’re very strict toward intruders."
"Is that so?"
"The Demon race’s country is called the Republic of Mara and it was the only country with a bridge that connects to the Lux Theocracy. That makes it a difficult place to enter unless you have a very good reason. Even the Lux Theocracy has to use that bridge to access the rest of the world."
"I see," Shen Xinghui murmured.
Thinking back, he realized he had never asked much about other countries.
Even after living in this world for ten years, there was still so much he didn’t know.
"Fortunately, Demon King Malrik realized immediately that I was someone from another world," Qi Yu continued. "He took me under his protection and kept me by his side until I fully understood this world."
"You were lucky to meet someone kind right from the start," Shen Xinghui commented without much thought.
Qi Yu gave a melancholic smile. "Yes... you could say that."
Before long, the curry was ready, and Qi Yu looked genuinely happy as he took his first bite.
"This is delicious! There’s something comforting about homemade curry. It has a warmth feeling that big chain restaurants can’t replicate."
"I’m glad to hear that," Shen Xinghui said, slightly embarrassed by the praise.
Meanwhile, Ignatius and Kaelion who are unable to understand their conversation, tilted their heads in confusion.
Once dinner was over, Shen Xinghui managed to get a moment alone with Qi Yu.
