Chapter 103: Side Story: Qi Yu and Two Sovereign (Part 1)

One day, Shen Xinghui and Iganatius took Kaelion to travel beyond their homeland for the first time, venturing into human territory.

Camping out under the stars, cooking together, and playing around—it truly felt like an adventure.

Now, the journey was at its midpoint.

They had set up camp just before crossing the mountain pass that would lead them back to the land of dragons.

"Mother, what are we making today?"

"Today, it’s curry," Shen Xinghui replied while pulling a large pot from his magic bag, along with ingredients—onions, carrots, potatoes, and meat.

He had decided early on that during this journey, Kaelion would cook alongside him, so he had avoided bringing pre-prepared meals.

Every time they camped, they cooked together.

Kaelion, much like Ignatius, wasn’t particularly skilled in the kitchen.

He wielded a sword with strength and precision, yet the moment he held a kitchen knife, his movements became clumsy.

Shen Xinghui couldn’t help but laugh when Kaelion’s attempt at peeling potatoes resulted in tiny, uneven pieces.

Even so, over the course of their journey, the boy had improved.

Since he struggled with the knife, he took charge of washing vegetables and stirring the pot.

When he looked a little dejected about it, Shen Xinghui found his determination rather endearing.

"Xinghui, I’ve set up a protective barrier around the tent and tarp," Ignatius announced.

"Thanks."

"It smells good. Curry?"

"Yeah."

Seeing the ingredients, Ignatius looked pleased.

Shen Xinghui focused on peeling potatoes while Kaelion wrestled with the carrot skins.

As they continued preparing dinner, Ignatius suddenly lifted his head, his expression sharp with alertness.

The change in his demeanor made Shen Xinghui tense.

"What is it?"

"It’s still a little bit far, but I sense monsters approaching."

"What?!"

Shen Xinghui flinched, his body stiffening.

Kaelion, too, immediately took a defensive stance in front of Shen Xinghui, his young face set with determination.

"Father."

"I can pinpoint their location. I’ll go take care of them. Stay here."

"I want to go too!" Kaelion declared bravely.

Shen Xinghui’s heart clenched.

Kaelion was strong for his age, but he was still only ten years old kid.

Ignatius smiled gently, resting a hand on Kaelion’s head before shaking his head.

"They seem to be quite large. Stay here."

"But—"

"I’m entrusting you with protecting your mother. Keep him safe."

That was something Kaelion couldn’t argue against.

Although he reluctant, he still nodded. "Understood."

"I’m counting on you. Xinghui, stay inside the tent. I’ll take care of this quickly."

"Alright. Be careful, Ignatius."

Shen Xinghui reached up, wrapping his arms around Ignatius’s neck, pulling him close, and pressing a kiss to his lips.

It was his way of saying "Come back safely"—a silent plea filled with all the emotions he couldn’t put into words.

Once Ignatius was gone, unease crept into Shen Xinghui’s chest.

As he clasped his hands together as if in prayer, Kaelion moved beside him, gripping his hand firmly.

"Father is strong. He’ll be fine."

"Yeah... I know."

Despite everything, he had still let someone get hurt.

However, more than anything, what hurt the most was his own helplessness in times like these.

The feelings he had when he first came to this world resurfaced—if only he had more useful skills for traveling.

If he could at least use healing magic, he might be able to help a little.

But even five-year-old Vaelrik could use basic magic, while Shen Xinghui couldn’t cast a single spell.

"Sometimes... I know it’s pointless, but I can’t help but wish I had magic or the power to fight," he muttered.

"Mother," Kaelion called out gently.

"Of course, it’s not that I hate the skills I do have," Shen Xinghui clarified. "Thanks to it, I was able to have you, Vaelrik and Seraphina. But when I’m out on a journey like this, I can’t help but feel frustrated."

If he voiced these thoughts to Ignatius, it would only worry him.

But after such a long time, his old fears had crept up on him again.

They had spilled out before he could stop them, revealing his weakness.

He despised himself for it.

Kaelion gripped his hand tightly, then gave him a warm smile.

"Mother, you do things that neither magic nor skills can accomplish."

"Things that magic or skills can’t do?"

"Yes. Like cooking. Your meals aren’t just delicious; they make me, Father, and my younger siblings happy. Your hands are magic hands—they melt away worries and pain and bring comfort. That’s something magic and skills can’t do. It’s something only you can do. So please, don’t make that painful face."

"Kaelion..."

Shen Xinghui pulled Kaelion into a tight embrace.

It was a little embarrassing to be comforted by a ten-year-old, but at the same time, his heart warmed.

He wanted to return this kindness in full—over and over again.

They waited for a while, and then the nearby trees rustled as Ignatius returned.

But he wasn’t alone.

The person accompanying him was strikingly beautiful.

He had long black hair tied back, delicate yet unwavering features, and a serene, gentle expression.

Although he looked slender, there was nothing fragile about him.

"Mother, that person is scary," Kaelion whispered, gripping Shen Xinghui’s clothes and trying to hide behind him.

But Shen Xinghui didn’t feel the same way.

Instead, he felt an odd sense of nostalgia.

"Xinghui, I’m back," Ignatius said.

"Welcome back, Ignatius. Who is this?"

As Shen Xinghui turned his gaze toward the stranger, the man bowed his head deeply, his movements refined and elegant.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Shen Xinghui. My name is Qi Yu. Just like you, I am also from another world."

"Another world?!"

Shen Xinghui’s heart pounded for an entirely different reason.

In the ten years he had spent in this world, he had never once met another person from his original world.

A mix of excitement and disbelief rushed through him.

"Are you... from Huaxia?" he asked eagerly.

"Yes, Huaxia," Qi Yu replied with a gentle smile. "When I heard your name, I wondered if you might also be from my homeland. I had been looking forward to meeting you."
