Chapter 271: Blushing

Chapter 271: Blushing

"I’m not alone anymore," Riven murmured to himself.

He sat up a little, his arms weak, but steady. The movement reminded him that, yeah—he hadn’t eaten in three days. He was starving.

Just as that thought hit, the door creaked open.

Eli poked his head in, balancing a tray in his arms. "You’re awake. Again," he noted with a small smile. "Didn’t I tell you to sleep?"

Riven shrugged, a cheeky grin tugging at his lips. "I’m hungry."

Eli let out a half-groan, half-laugh. "Why am I not surprised?"

He set the tray down carefully on the side table and helped adjust Riven’s pillows. The tray was modest—some broth, soft bread, fruit. Nothing heavy. But it smelled heavenly.

Upon Eli’s insistence, Ronan and Soren had gone to sleep. They had barely gotten any sleep during the days Riven was in a coma. Neither had wanted to leave Riven’s side, but exhaustion had finally caught up with them. Ronan, being the considerate man he was, told the cook to make something light and healthy for Riven before collapsing.

Hearing Eli tell him this, Riven felt warm again, he could barely contain his smile. How lovely was it to have people who cared for you like this?

"I should’ve known food would wake you up faster than any medicine," Eli muttered, pouring a bit of broth into a bowl.

"You’re spoiling me," Riven teased, watching him with lidded eyes.

The moment Riven finished the last bite of fruit, he stretched out like a lazy cat in silk sheets. His muscles still ached, but the food brought a much-needed spark of energy back into his limbs. Across the room, Eli was tidying up the tray.

Riven smiled to himself.

"Eli."

Eli turned. "Yes?"

Riven patted the space beside him in bed. "Come lie down."

Eli blinked. "What?"

"You’re clearly tired. You haven’t slept properly in days, have you?"

"I’m fine," Eli said, far too quickly, brushing a hand through his disheveled curls. "Besides, you’re the patient."

Riven tilted his head and gave him a look. "You’re always taking care of everyone else. Let someone take care of you for a change."

Eli faltered.

And then Riven reached over, grabbed his wrist, and tugged him toward the bed.

"Riven—"

"Shhh. Don’t argue with a recovering patient."

Before Eli could think of another protest, Riven dragged him under the covers and curled around him, arms wrapping firmly around Eli’s waist. It was protective, warm—and so natural. Riven nuzzled into the back of Eli’s shoulder and closed his eyes, his tail brushing lightly against Eli’s leg.

"Just rest," Riven murmured.

Eli was blushing like a beet. His heart hammered against his ribs. The scent of Riven, warm and woodsy, enveloped him like a cocoon. He was very aware of every point of contact—the soft brush of Riven’s breath on his neck, the arm around his middle, the way their bodies fit together far too comfortably.

How was he supposed to sleep like this?!

Especially after that dream a few nights ago. A dream he would never speak of out loud. A dream that involved Riven pinning him down and whispering things in a low voice that no respectable healer should ever hear.

Nope. Not thinking about it.

Eli bit his lower lip and tried to keep still. He could feel Riven’s heartbeat against his back. Calm. Steady. Eli’s own pulse, meanwhile, was a chaotic mess.

But Riven didn’t seem to notice. Of course not. The man had zero awareness of the chaos he caused in people.

Within minutes, Riven’s breathing evened out. His grip stayed firm, holding Eli like he was a favourite stuffed animal.

Eli tried to resist the comfort... But failed.

Maybe it was exhaustion. Maybe it was the emotional toll of the past three days. Or maybe... maybe it was just Riven.

Eli finally let go. His body relaxed, his thoughts drifted, and he fell asleep.

Not too long after Eli fell asleep, Riven opened his eyes.

He smiled when he saw Eli’s peaceful expression. The faintest crease still lingered on his brow, like he wasn’t used to sleeping without worrying.

"Sleep well, Eli," Riven whispered. He tucked the blanket carefully around Eli, brushing a curl away from his cheek. The man really was beautiful, especially when he wasn’t panicking about vitals or medicine dosages.

He gently shifted, untangling himself. He had to do something, something he’d been meaning to do but never got to do.

Riven stood and stretched, his bones popping. His green eyes sharpened as he stared at the window, the sky beginning to shift to late afternoon hues.

It was time.

"Time to visit that bastard who I call father," he muttered, his voice low, dark. His jaw clenched.

His brief peace with Eli had been needed—but there were things left unfinished. Memories of bruised childhoods and cruel glares still lingered in the back of his mind like old ghosts. His coma had shown him too much.

And what kind of transmigrator would he be if he did not get revenge for the original Riven?

Riven moved with a sense of purpose, he strutted down the hallways with his tail wagging. Clearly excited. No, he was not scared of that bastard anymore, it was time for him to turn the tables. He would make sure his ’father’ was scared of him.

Troy stood near the main hall, arms crossed, flinching when Riven approached with that sharp glint in his eyes. "Troy," Riven said coolly. "I want to see him."

Troy blinked. "Who?"

"That bastard." Riven clarified, but that clarified absolutely nothing for Troy. Who was Riven talking about?!

"My father..." Riven pouted. He wanted to look all serious and strong, but this man was ruining things for him!

"Oh- Uh, let me ask the Alpha f-" Troy nervously adjusted his glasses. No, he could not risk getting fired by Ronan again. He had to confirm this first.

"Yeah, that’s not happening. You’re taking me to the dungeons. When Ronan’s asleep, I’m the boss." Riven put his hands on his hips.
