Chapter 37: Chapter 37: When power speaks

"W-What?" Eiden asked, desperation flickering in his eyes. Ding! "As I said, I was just getting your hopes up." System-chan’s smug voice echoed in his mind like a slap to the face.

Eiden stood there silently, expression unreadable. Without saying a word, he grabbed his bag and left the house, heading for college. The walk felt heavy, his mind too cluttered to acknowledge anything around him. A hollow silence wrapped around him as he tried to piece everything together. Where the hell is the damn pendrive...?

He squinted, recalling that day clearly—the day Linda rejected him, the day his mood was in shambles.

I had the pendrive in my bag then... I didn’t take it out afterward. So how the hell is it gone? Then a sudden flash of memory. Wait a minute... That was also the day I climbed that stupid tree for the cat!

His heart skipped a beat. Could it have fallen when I slipped and fell down? Without another thought, he broke into a sprint, heading straight toward that location.

But as he turned the corner, close to where the incident had happened, he abruptly halted. A strange scene froze him in place Sasha and Crysty, surrounded by four unfamiliar guys. Something about it was off.

Eiden narrowed his eyes. What the hell is going on...? He walked closer cautiously.

That’s when he heard Sasha’s voice, furious and fiery. "I said I don’t know! How many times do I have to say that to get through your thick skull?!"

The guys didn’t back off. One of them reached out, about to grab Sasha’s arm. "Hey! Sasha, what’s going on?" Eiden shouted, breaking into a run. All heads turned to him. "We’re gonna be late for the project," he added quickly, forcing a calm smile as he grabbed Sasha’s hand, trying to pull her away.

But before he could get far, one of the guys grabbed Eiden’s shoulder and shoved him roughly. He staggered, almost falling, but barely managed to stay upright. "She has business with us," the guy said coldly.

"Sasha!" Eiden called, but one of the others blocked her way as she tried to reach him.

Red with fury, Sasha spat, "F*ck off!"

The same guy tried to grab her again, but this time Crysty acted first. With a loud smack, she slapped his hand away, hard. The guy flinched in pain, and Crysty’s hand turned red from the impact but she didn’t care.

Her glare was unflinching.

"We’ll call the cops, you creeps. Get the f*ck away from us!" The guy snorted. "We just want to confirm something with her."

"She has nothing to confirm with you!" Crysty shot back, her tone sharp as a dagger. Eiden, watching all this unfold, felt utterly pathetic. Damn it... should I put my remaining three points into strength?

He clenched his fists. But it won’t matter... three points won’t be enough to overpower even one of them. They’re built like they’ve done this before...

He tried again to approach Sasha, but each time he was shoved back, forced to stay near but powerless. "What do you even want to confirm?!" he yelled finally.

One of the guys turned to him, then looked at Sasha. "We want to know if she took the video or if she has anything to do with it." Sasha frowned, confused. "What video?"

"The fake scandalous video of our young master Ruel," he replied grimly.

Understanding dawned on Sasha’s face, but she scoffed. "No. I don’t know anything about that and I don’t give a f*ck!"

"Not convincing," the guy replied coldly. "You’ll have to come with us. Once we confirm the truth, we’ll let you go." Before any of them could react, two guys grabbed Eiden, while the others seized Sasha and Crysty. They began dragging them toward a black van parked nearby.

Panic shot through Eiden’s chest. This is really happening?! Just then VROOOOM.

A sleek Bugatti, followed by three matte-black cars, zoomed down the road and screeched to a halt nearby.

From the Bugatti, a pair of elegant heels touched the pavement first, followed by a woman with golden hair cascading like silk, wearing jet-black sunglasses and an outfit too expensive for Earth. Her figure was flawless porcelain skin, tall frame, and an aura that screamed royalty.

Eva Marvelle. She took off her sunglasses with delicate grace and spoke coolly, "What’s going on here?" Without missing a beat, Crysty pointed and shouted, "They’re trying to kidnap us!" Eva raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? That’s brave of them." She tilted her head, amused. "You may leave now. Let them go."

The men didn’t budge. "Mind your own business, lady," one of them barked, clearly unaware of who he was talking to.Eva giggled.

Oh no, Eiden thought. He fcked up.* With a casual snap of her fingers, all three black cars popped open, and several men in black suits stepped out in synchronized silence. Their expressions were stone-cold.Surrounded.

One particular man stood out as he stepped forward. Tall, muscular, and fierce-looking he had a visible scar carved through his right eyebrow. The aura around him was suffocating.

He walked toward the four thugs, stopping inches from their leader. Then, slowly, he pulled his coat aside to reveal a holstered gun at his waist. His voice came out like gravel being ground. "F*ck. Off."

The silence that followed was thunderous.

No one moved. The thugs swallowed hard, sweat beginning to gather at their temples. It didn’t take long for reality to hit them.

They were outgunned, outmuscled, and definitely outclassed. One by one, the men released their grips and stepped back. Eiden, Sasha, and Crysty were free.

Without looking back, the thugs scrambled and ran toward the van, which peeled off down the street, tires screeching in defeat.

Eva smiled, replacing her sunglasses like she had just swatted a fly.

"Well then," she said smoothly. "Glad I came by." Sasha looked shaken, but held her ground. "Thanks... that could’ve gone a lot worse." Crysty nodded, her hand still red but her eyes relieved. "Seriously. Thank you."

Eiden, still processing everything, gave a small bow of gratitude. Eva just waved a hand dismissively. "It was getting boring today anyway."

With that, she turned and walked back to her car, her heels clicking with the same power and elegance as her presence. Eiden muttered under his breath, "Holy sh*t..."

Sasha tugged on his sleeve. "Are you okay?"

He nodded. "Yeah... thanks to her." Crysty added, "And to you too. You still came running even when they pushed you around like that." Eiden chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah, well... couldn’t just leave you there." His thoughts suddenly shifted back to the pendrive. Damn, I almost forgot. He turned to the girls. "I gotta check something. Can you both stay together? Just in case?"

They nodded, watching him dash off. As he ran toward the park where it all started, his heart thudded harder not just from adrenaline or relief, but from the weight of something more dangerous unraveling behind the scenes.

Because whatever this video was

And whoever "Young Master Ruel" truly was

They weren’t going to back down quietly. And Eiden had just stepped into the fire.
