Chapter 64: Tears and Alcohol

3° person POV

"I’m going to bed," Amelia said in a heavy tone.

Her eyes were still teary, her makeup ruined, and her expression filled with sadness and despair. The girl seemed completely lost.

Helena watched her friend walk away with slow steps before heading to her room to lie down. She felt a tightness in her chest, unsure of what to do at that moment. What should she say? How could she comfort her friend?

Still, she felt at least a small sense of relief. At least the girl wasn’t going to see that idiot Cole anymore. Trying to stay optimistic, Helena took another sip, imagining her friend would get over it.

"I know she’ll find someone better..." she muttered to herself.

Her mind wandered between doubts. Sometimes she had positive thoughts; other times, her heart sank into pessimism.

And she kept remembering the face of the boy she had fallen for. She wondered if she should make a move on him. Lilith’s words naturally kept echoing in her mind.

She sighed once more, then heard the door to the house open. It was Mina and Yasmin, stumbling in, looking quite drunk already.

The house she was in was an Airbnb that Mina had rented for herself, her girlfriend, Liam, Lilith, and Helena to stay in. Since the party lasted three days, most people rented a place to sleep a little before enjoying more the next day.

As they entered, Yasmin immediately noticed an unfamiliar jacket. Then, seeing Helena’s expression as she drank alone in the living room, she quickly asked:

"What happened?"

Caught off guard by the arrival of the couple, Helena, impaired by the alcohol, couldn’t think much. So she just told the whole story, or at least as much as she could, her memory and mind already a bit hazy.

"What an asshole!" Mina stood up and declared in a loud shout.

The girl, who had already drunk quite a bit, couldn’t contain her voice. Then, despite her girlfriend’s scolding, she kept talking.

"Tell your friend not to feel down; this was a blessing in disguise," she said, or at least tried to say, though her drunken mind couldn’t quite formulate the words properly. "If she wants, tomorrow I can introduce her to guys way better than that idiot."

Recalling her brief encounter with Cole, she started badmouthing him. She almost went to wake Amelia, convinced that all the girl needed was to drink and go out to have fun.

Fortunately, Yasmin, the more rational of the two, stopped her.

They didn’t even know Amelia that well, and everyone reacts differently to things. If Mina had witnessed the betrayal herself, she’d have silently approached the couple, dumped a glass of beer over the bitch’s head, and kicked her boyfriend in the balls.

After that, she would have cried uncontrollably for ten minutes, downed a liter of vodka, thrown up, hooked up with the first person she saw, and much more. She was chaotic, feeling everything intensely, but also recovering quickly by herself.

But not everyone was like her. Actually, most people were not.

"Come on, you’ve had enough to drink. It’s time for bed," Yasmin patiently guided her girlfriend to a bed.

She helped Mina undress and put on pajamas, removed her makeup, and tucked her in.

Yasmin let out a deep sigh. "She’s so much work sometimes."

Helena, who had been watching all of this, couldn’t help but admire and envy the care they had for each other.

"It must be nice to have someone who takes care of you like that," she muttered to herself.

"It is," Mina said, already half-asleep. "I love her. Without her, I’d be nothing. Thank you for always taking care of me." At least, that’s what she tried to say, though it came out more like indecipherable gibberish, as she was too drunk to properly pronounce the words.

Those were her last words before she passed out in a deep sleep.

Yasmin smiled softly and kissed her girlfriend, grateful for the compliments. And she waited in the bedroom, until she noticed Mina had fallen asleep.

Soon after, she headed to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses. Finally, she sat down in front of Helena.

"Want to talk about your friend?" she offered a glass of wine.

"Thanks."

Yasmin smiled, filled the glasses with wine, and slowly sipped hers, giving Helena time to gather her thoughts.

"I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to help her," Helena said, hoping the more experienced woman might have some sort of magical solution, or at least a step-by-step guide to deal with the problem.

"You’ve already helped her," Yasmin replied gently. "You stayed by her side when she needed to cry, brought her to a safe place where she could rest. These things take time, and unfortunately, there’s little we can do besides being there for her."

Her tone was calm, laced with traces of personal experience. Helena, always perceptive, couldn’t help but notice.

"You don’t have to answer, but..."

Yasmin chuckled lightly, cutting her off. "Yes, I’ve been cheated on. That’s what you wanted to ask, right?" She poured more wine into her glass. "It’s not a very exciting story, my ex-girlfriend had an affair with another girl. Maybe with others, too."

Hearing that, Helena felt a surge of curiosity. Yet, she wasn’t sure if asking more would be crossing a line.

Yasmin noticed her hesitation and took another sip, leaning back slightly. "You can ask. I don’t mind. Some scars don’t sting anymore."

Encouraged, Helena hesitated before speaking. "How did you... deal with it? Move on?"

"Not long after, I met Mina, and we started going out. At the time, I wasn’t in a good place and didn’t feel like dating anyone. But, you know, her energy is contagious, and we just clicked. That’s how our relationship began."

"And weren’t you jealous? Even now, don’t you feel jealous?" she finally asked.

Yasmin smiled slightly, "Is this conversation still about helping your friend?"

Helana blushed and looked away embarrassed. She didn’t want to talk about the conversation she had with Lilith.

Noticing how much the woman was inhibiting herself, the brunette pointed to the glass and commented in a light tone:

"I know it’s cheap wine, but you don’t have to make a face. At least have a little."

Helena immediately apologized, worried she had offended the woman. Yasmin responded with a sigh and explained:

"You worry too much about everything, relax. I was just joking. Now, go on, have another sip, let the alcohol kick in, and tell me, what’s bothering you so much, girl?"

Helena finally gave in and took another sip of the wine.

After walking for a while, Lilith found the abandoned building where, for some reason, the incubus was, after taking control of Liam’s body.

The girl hesitated before entering. While she was worried, she also didn’t want to deal with that being.

"I think it’s fine, he doesn’t seem to intend to do anything problematic," she said trying to convince herself that she didn’t need to intervene.

In the end, she decided to leave and observe from a distance.

She didn’t feel anything particularly concerning, and slowly, she began to sense the incubus’s presence fading. It was clear he would soon leave that body.

Of course, not before having sex with a few more girls. After a long night, the being accompanied six rich ladies, who were heading back to the hotel they had rented. He clearly intended to have one last bit of fun.

And naturally, he did. Between 4 a.m and 5 a.m., the people in the neighboring rooms were woken up by intense moans. Some were irritated. Several girls felt a twinge of jealousy, waking up next to a man who couldn’t make them climax the way he could.

After all the girls passed out from pleasure, the incubus was supposed to leave that body, but he didn’t. The reason was the unexpected intrusion of a certain woman.

"Don’t you think you’ve been in this body for too long?" Lucia said, her tone almost threatening.

She had just sensed the strange presence inside Liam and went to check what was happening. Afraid at the thought of that being taking control of the man, she decided to act to protect Liam.

"Don’t worry, I’m not your enemy," the incubus chuckled lightly and took a step forward. "But I didn’t like that tone, demon."

The redhead, used to intimidating others, was forced to take a step back. Her powers had no effect on that being.

"Wait, you’re not a real demon..." The incubus murmured, noticing something. "A half-human, how interesting."

Lucia became genuinely concerned, so she tried to make a threat. "If you tell anything about me to the council, I’ll..."

"You’ll do what?" He let his aura spread through the room, pressing down on the woman.

The redhead was surprised by this. She had two main powers: direct control over her targets, which worked like hypnosis. It was very powerful, but had the limitation of being easily broken. Liam, for example, was no longer affected by this ability.

However, she also had the ability of indirect control, influencing emotions and giving small suggestions to the brain. This was how she managed to ensure that, even after everything, Lila and Liam still remained friendly toward her.

It was also with this ability that she managed to completely erase from Lila’s mind the possibility that she was someone with supernatural powers, even though that should have been an obvious conclusion.

With these mental suggestions, she also made Liam forget to mention to his girlfriend that he had discovered the redhead’s powers.

And, above all, because it was an indirect ability, it was nearly impossible to block. In fact, most angels or demons couldn’t even sense when it was being activated.

But the being in front of her was no ordinary one.

"It’s an interesting power," The incubus said with a playful smile, pondering whether or not to destroy the girl’s spell. In the end, he decided it was unnecessary. "But I told you, I’m not your enemy, so don’t worry. Now, why don’t you tell me what your goal is?"

The redhead immediately backed away and quickly refused to answer. The incubus responded with a sigh. But he still allowed her to leave without disturbing her, yet he gave one last piece of advice:

"You should trust the boy. Honestly, he’s your only chance to save yourself. And don’t expect your lies to last long, my stupid daughter is more powerful than you imagine."

Somehow, the words wandered through the air, unheard by anyone, until they reached the ears they were intended for.

With that, the incubus considered his work done. He had no intention of interfering further. After all, his time had already passed, and whether the story that would follow would be one of success or failure mattered little to him. But he had confidence in the successor he had chosen.

Then, Liam woke up, still very confused. He heard the sound of the system’s notification, a sound he hadn’t heard in a long time.
