Chapter 61: Small fight
Chapter 61: Small fight
The scene erupted into chaos. Zoe charged at the group leader with fearless precision, as she showed her perfect movements. She quickly dodged the first blows, and in an instant she landed a solid hit in the stomach of one of her opponents.
Then she stepped back, inviting the man to come fight. The first poor soul who dared to approach was sent flying backward, clutching his stomach after a brutal kick that left him gasping for air.
Some of the henchmen hesitated, their cowardice palpable as they hovered at the edges of the fight, pretending not to notice the carnage. They clearly hoped the situation would magically resolve itself.
Others, either braver or just too stupid to know better, rushed in to stop her. Perhaps they were corrupt, terrified of the fallout if they were caught siding with the wrong people.
Within seconds, the scene devolved into utter pandemonium. Fortunately, I was already on the sidelines, observing and waiting for the perfect moment to step in. Without hesitation, I dove into the fray.
With all eyes glued to Zoe, I was able to approach easily, my steps slow and deliberate. Carefully, I concealed my presence, ensuring not to make even the slightest sound as I closed the distance between us.
Feeling particularly daring, or perhaps reckless, I made my move. As Zoe paused for a brief second after flattening yet another unfortunate opponent, I took the opportunity to land a playful smack on her butt.
She froze mid-motion, whipping around to glare at me with a mixture of irritation, disbelief, and just a hint of grudging amusement flickering in her eyes. ’Really?’ her expression seemed to say, though the faintest twitch of a smirk betrayed her struggle to stay serious.
I pretended I hadn’t done anything and, with the utmost nonchalance, offered my help. "Need a hand here?" I asked, trying to sound casual. I couldn’t tell if she was more grateful or furious about my gesture.
Zoe, after all, was capable of taking everyone down without any assistance. She was incredibly skilled and, despite the brutality, knew how to restrain her blows to avoid killing anyone.
So why did I intervene? The answer was simple: I wanted to impress her. As an incubus with enhanced strength, I could rival her physical abilities and knew that, if I played my cards right, I could earn her respect.
Combining our forces, we neutralized the remaining henchmen quickly. I took advantage of the chaos to scatter evidence of the group on the ground, ensuring that if noone was filming, the police would have enough proof. And, from the looks of it, Clara was already taking care of the recording.
Once the situation was under control, Zoe surprised me. "Thanks," she said, with an expression that was hard to read.
"No need to thank me," I replied with a cheerful smile. "I know you didn’t need my help."
"Then why did you butt in?" she asked before landing a punch to my stomach, strong enough to make me almost faint. As I tried to catch my breath, she continued, "If you’re not part of the security team, you shouldn’t interfere. Consider yourself lucky I’m not kicking you out of here after what you pulled."
It was typical Zoe. Intense, strong, and uncompromising. But I needed to earn her respect, and a few punches would not be a problem.
It took me a while to recover from the blow, but after thinking for a while, I finally managed to say a few words:
"I was just trying to impress a beautiful girl I just met," I tried to sound cool saying that.
"Before trying to impress someone, get stronger. Don’t just rely on instincts and strength to win, your moves were rough and unpolished."
She was undoubtedly a tough person, but it didn’t seem like she was angry. In fact, she seemed pretty eager to talk to me.
"Anyway, can I get a kiss?" I moved closer to her.
"What is that all of a sudden?" She snapped her fingers, ready to deliver a deadly blow.
I might have been a beginner in martial arts, but my body was incredibly strong and fast. After being hit the first time, on the second, I naturally reacted by grabbing her hand and sliding closer to her.
I acted quickly, stealing a brief kiss and gently touching her amazing butt. Then I backed off a bit and replied with a smile:
"I said I’d ask for a kiss again when we met."
"I’m still working, idiot," she tapped the top of my head. "At least I can say you learn fast, those were good moves, so I’ll let it slide this time."
"Don’t worry, next time I’ll ask for more, okay?" I moved a little closer. "And I’ll have even better moves."
"Don’t get ahead of yourself!" This time, she struck me with her elbow, stopping me in my tracks before I could get any closer.
I rolled in pain for a while. After that, I decided to end the joking and talk seriously with her. I wanted Zoe to help Clara as much as possible, and I also shared with her what I knew, at least part of it.
"I get it, that’s the reason you were here. I found it strange seeing you waiting in a corner while looking suspiciously at the entrance."
"Wait, did you notice that?" I asked, embarrassed.
"Yeah, so in the end, you just wanted my help, damn seducer." She seemed a bit irritated. Well, in fact, partly I had approached her because it would be convenient, and partly I did it because Lucia asked.
Actually, no matter how you looked at it, I had approached her for reprehensible reasons. That said, I still needed to seduce her, so my answer was:
"Of course not, I only flirt with beautiful women. I just got lucky and found one who was also a convenient security guard." That was definitely not a lie, even though it was misleading.
"You’re definitely no good," Zoe said.
I just smiled in response and then introduced her to Clara. Despite everything, I knew she had praised me in her own way. Seeing my close relationship with the reporter, Zoe remarked that she was just another one, to which I replied that I simply had a big heart.
In the end, I don’t think she was truly angry. In fact, we seemed to grow a little closer and she enjoyed spending time with me. Well, objectively, I could say we had gotten closer, as her affection for me had risen from zero(before we met), to fifty six, which was a good value.
That said, she still gave me a farewell smack on the head.
But with that, everything was done. The police were on their way, dozens of people were posting about the incident, and most of the group members would soon be arrested.
What should I do with the extra free time?
Before I could dwell on that thought, a sharp scream reached my ears. A girl? Her voice was muffled, and she sounded desperately pleading for help.
Reacting almost instinctively, I sprinted toward the sound.
Things happened fast. I saw two men leading a woman away from the crowd. She looked dazed, maybe from too much alcohol...
No, with my senses, I could tell. She’d been drugged with some kind of substance. That’s why her resistance was so weak, and her cries for help so faint.
Instead of intervening immediately, I decided to observe, wanting to uncover their intentions. I watched as they took her to a dilapidated, abandoned building.
At first, I thought they were just two scumbags trying to assault her or something similar. But as I followed them, I discovered something much worse. Inside the building was a hidden door leading to a basement.
The structure surprised me. I wondered for a bit If I should ask for help, but the guards were busy with the recent incident, and the girl needed help quickly.
So I decided it was time to act. I took down one of the men with a strong punch to the stomach and grabbed the other by the neck. My voice filled with anger as I demanded:
"What’s going on here?"
The man looked terrified, but before I could force him to give me any information, a loud sound caught my attention.
The smell of gunpowder filled the air, and then I realized the source of the noise: a gunshot.
My shirt turned red as blood seeped from my abdomen. Before I could react, a sharp, jarring blow struck the back of my neck, sending a wave of dizziness crashing over me.
Pain shot through me as my body convulsed. My leg shook violently, and as my vision darkened, I finally collapsed to the ground.
For a moment, I could still hear the desperate rhythm of my heart, struggling to keep beating.
But soon, the sound faded, and everything fell into silence.
Was this where I was going to die?
Suddenly, a strange voice echoed inside me, and I lost all consciousness.
Then something took control.
