Chapter 43: Save her from despair
Chapter 43: Save her from despair
Helena’s pov
I was nervous, for several reasons. Trying to calm down, I kept walking back and forth to my own room.
I checked once more to make sure the house was clean, glanced at the clock, and took a deep breath. My guest was supposed to arrive at any moment, and I was on edge.
"I’m heading out," my idiot brother announced, apparently going somewhere. I was surprised he even had friends to go out with.
That said, it was convenient for me that he was leaving. It would be strange to welcome one of his friends while he was home. No, perhaps having a man over while no one else was home would be even stranger.
I blushed slightly. Indeed, the chances of someone misunderstanding my invitation were high. Well, maybe I even wanted it to be misunderstood... Agh! Forget it!
Timidly, I brought a hand to my face, already burning with embarrassment.
I drank a glass of water to regain my composure.
Then my phone buzzed with a notification, making my body tense up with a certain fear that froze me in place. I took a deep breath, picked up the phone nervously, and sighed in relief when I saw it was just a message from my best friend, Amelia.
She had sent a smiling photo with her boyfriend. I sighed deeply at the sight of that image. I turned off the phone immediately, wanting to focus on something else... but it was no use.
My silly nervousness faded, only to be replaced by the feeling of despair. I was trying to live my life normally, trying to think about it as little as possible, and yet...
The doorbell rang, pulling me out of that whirlwind of negative thoughts.
Had he already arrived?
I got nervous again, and with quick steps, I went to open the door. When I did, I found a boy standing there who looked a little tired.
Had I been more attentive, perhaps I would have noticed the clear and deep exhaustion in his gaze, which seemed to carry infinite worries. However, at that moment, my mind was too polluted to notice such things.
"Are you okay? You look tired," I asked, my concern barely scratching the surface.
He brushed off my superficial worry with a smile and stepped into the house.
There was no way I could have known everything that had happened to him that day, or the day before. Perhaps if I had known, my choice of words would have been different.
Well, there’s no "if" in life, and the only indisputable fact was that I couldn’t hold my feelings back any longer:
"I need help," I said, tears streaming down my face. I thought I’d be able to hold myself together better, but as soon as those first words escaped, my emotions spiraled out of control.
I don’t remember very well what happened next. The storm of feelings inside me turned everything into a hazy blur of confusing events.
At some point, I was being hugged. It was comforting, yet scary at the same time.
From him, I could smell the expensive perfume of a woman clinging to my nose... Actually, two distinct fragrances, though similar.
Why was I even thinking about that at a time like this?
I remembered the day I was "saved." He had ended up going on a date with that orange-haired girl.
Thinking about it, his face wasn’t particularly striking, but he was surprisingly popular with women, which made me jealous.
Jealous of what? We didn’t even have anything.
I felt confused by my emotions, but eventually, my mind and heart aligned enough for me to speak.
"Michel is threatening me with photos I sent him."
I’m not sure if my words came out as clear as that. What matters is that I told him everything that was troubling me.
My ex-boyfriend, someone I had trusted out of a terrible lapse in judgment, was now trapping me with those photos. That was the real reason I hung out with that group, and the reason I couldn’t rat out Cole to Amelia.
Watching my best friend get cheated on, unable to warn her, hurt deeply.
And the constant fear he subjected me to was torturous. Even when I tried to live my life normally, that gnawing feeling always resurfaced to drag me down. Finally, I felt a weight lifting off my chest as the words poured out, one after the other.
"I’ll help you," he said. Those were the words that made me feel there was hope, shifting the burden on my shoulders onto someone else.
In a moment of magical thinking, I believed that everything would be resolved just because of that promise. And so, I felt a lightness I hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Then Liam reached out and gently placed his hand on my head. As he began to softly ruffle my hair, I felt more and more at ease. He seemed so confident with that smile of his that I didn’t even hesitate.
I don’t remember exactly how things progressed after that, but we talked for a few more minutes. With every word, impulses and desires bubbled up inside me, but I was far too shy to give them a chance.
In any case, I said goodbye with a lighter heart, smiling as he left. Soon after, I was alone at home once more.
I would have loved to spend more time with him, but it was as if the heavens had conspired when he received a message that forced him to leave earlier than expected.
Five minutes later, my brother came back home. He seemed a little shaken, but I paid little attention to it.
And just like that, the day came to an end.
Liam’s pov
Somehow, just saying that everything would be okay and that I would handle things was enough to complete Helena’s mission. As a reward, I received three intelligence points. Somehow, despite the mental exhaustion, this made my mind recover and start working clearly again.
Beyond that, it was hard to say if anything had truly changed. But I guess I had become smarter? Only the future would tell if it really made a difference.
Either way, the next mission was:

The reward seemed intriguing, and I could easily guess which video I’d have to destroy. Now, it was just a matter of figuring out how to do it.
At that moment, I received a notification from Isabel. It was four photos of her with the other girls, captioned: "Enjoy and think a lot about us, harem master." She followed it with fire emojis. In her final message, she mentioned that the girls would be waiting for me.
Regrettably, I had to tell her we wouldn’t be meeting that day. She quickly replied, saying she’d be ready anytime. That girl really knew how to be seductive.
Afterward, she started asking for details about what was going on, but my Uber had just arrived at my destination. Besides, I had already askes Lilith to go meet them, and she’d just share everything with them anyway. Shrugging it off, I gave her a vague reply, saying she didn’t need to worry.
I stepped out of the car and waited for the doorman to open the door. In front of me stood a fancy building I’d visited a few times before. Waiting there with a piercing gaze was a redhead.
"Thank you for coming despite my sudden invitation," Lucia said with a sly smile.
"It’s not like I had the choice to just ignore it," I sighed deeply.
