Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Dad, It’s Your Turn

After spending half an hour, James Thompson finally managed to get Alice Thompson clean.

He wrapped her up in a small towel.

"Daddy, it’s your turn now. Hurry up and take off your clothes," Alice Thompson commanded, holding the showerhead eagerly.

James chuckled softly.

He unbuttoned his shirt.

Today, he had worn a white shirt when going out, but it had turned into a colorful mess by the time he returned. He removed it.

Alice Thompson patted her own soft belly and then blinked her eyes while staring at her father’s stomach.

"Mousey’s belly is still the cutest," she declared self-adoringly.

"Yes, yes, yours is the cutest," James replied, giving a sidelong glance at his son’s squishy belly. He stretched out his leg for Alice to wash. "Go ahead."

"Daddy, why aren’t you taking off your pants to shower?" The little rascal glanced at his father, who was still wearing boxer shorts, and pouted. "Daddy, you won’t get clean like this."

James was speechless. Of course, he wouldn’t take off his pants in front of a child. This little rascal always had endless questions.

"Your mommy is calling you to eat something."

The move worked wonders, as Alice’s toes twitched excitedly at the mention of food.

He quickly handed the showerhead back to James. "Daddy, you wash yourself. Mousey is going to find Mommy."

Wrapped in the small towel, Alice toddled out of the bathroom, determined to find his mommy.

After sending off Alice, James hurriedly scrubbed off the colorful ink from his body.

**

Late at night, it unexpectedly started raining.

Carson Dunn’s phone, which lay on the bedside table, rang suddenly.

The ringing woke him up. Opening his eyes, he reached out to grab the phone off the bedside table.

He glanced at the caller ID—it was Snowlyn Winters calling.

"Mr. Dunn, please help me. Someone keeps knocking on my door every one or two hours,"

On the other end of the line, Snowlyn’s voice was filled with fear and unease.

Carson furrowed his brows and glanced at the time. "Have you called the police?"

"I have... The officers told me to stay temporarily at a friend’s or relative’s place. I... I..." Snowlyn’s stammering speech revealed her deep fear. "I just arrived in Capital City and don’t know where to go."

"Where are you now?"

"The police station."

Listening to Snowlyn’s panicked voice on the phone, Carson rubbed his temples. "Send me your location. I’ll come get you."

Snowlyn responded quickly. "Alright, I’ll send it to you immediately."

Carson got out of bed, quickly dressed, grabbed his car keys, and drove to the police station.

When he arrived at the station,

Carson saw Snowlyn sitting helplessly in the lobby.

When Snowlyn spotted him, a flicker of relief appeared in her eyes. "Mr. Dunn, thank you for coming."

Carson gave a slight nod. "I’ve booked a safe hotel for you. Come on, I’ll take you there."

Snowlyn hesitated momentarily, then said softly, "Is the hotel really safe? I’m feeling scared to be alone right now."

Her expression looked like she might break into tears.

Carson could tell Snowlyn was too distressed and uncertain of what to do.

As a man, he couldn’t possibly invite another woman to stay at his place, and his parents were no longer in Capital City—they had already flown back to Sea Pearl City to prepare for his wedding with Little Dale.

"Don’t worry; this hotel has excellent security measures," Carson explained calmly.

Snowlyn pondered for a while and finally nodded. "Alright, let’s head to the hotel. Sorry to trouble you tonight."

Carson led Snowlyn out of the police station and drove her to the hotel he had booked beforehand.

During the ride, Snowlyn remained tightly wound, her anxiety palpable.

Once they reached the hotel, Carson helped her check in and escorted her to her room. "If there’s any issue, you can contact the hotel front desk."

Snowlyn bit her lip and nodded, forcing a faint smile. "Thank you, Mr. Dunn. You’re really helping me a lot tonight."

Carson gave a slight nod, maintaining his usual composure and politeness.

Just as he turned to leave, Snowlyn grabbed his sleeve.

She quickly released it, looking embarrassed and uneasy. "Mr. Dunn, could you accompany me inside to check if anyone is in the room..."

Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, showing she was genuinely scared that there might be someone lurking in the room.

Seeing how frightened she was, Carson nodded. "I’ll go in with you to take a look."

He stepped in first, opened the door, and walked inside, with Snowlyn following close behind. She deliberately left the door slightly ajar.

Carson inspected every part of the room, including the bathroom and wardrobe, confirming there were no abnormalities. Then he turned to Snowlyn and said, "The room is secure. There’s nothing to worry about."

Snowlyn let out a sigh of relief, her tense expression softening a bit as she spoke gratefully. "Thank you, Mr. Dunn. You’ve truly helped me a lot."

Tonight, she had said "thank you" countless times.

Carson nodded slightly, keeping a safe distance between them. "Rest early. If you need anything, contact the front desk."

Snowlyn took out a small pepper spray from her pocket. However, instead of standard pepper spray, it contained a mist drug.

A couple of sprays of this drug could knock someone unconscious.

Since it looked like pepper spray, Carson didn’t suspect anything.

Snowlyn casually pressed the nozzle, feigning a casual attitude. "I just want to test if this still works—been keeping it for years."

Carson instinctively frowned and sensed something was off. He quickly lifted his arm to cover his nose.

But the unusual scent had already begun to permeate the air.

He swiftly snatched the spray from Snowlyn’s hand and directed it back at her.

Snowlyn’s expression turned startled and panicked; she hadn’t expected Carson’s quick reaction.

She inhaled a considerable dose of the mist drug, causing her to collapse unconscious shortly after.

Carson staggered two steps, trying to leave, but soon his body weakened, and he collapsed to the floor.

Some time later, the room’s door was gently pushed open as someone stepped inside, the sound of high heels clicking softly against the floor.
