Chapter 403: Chapter 403: Married on September 2nd

"Sister Bella, did you find anything about that Alice Thompson?"

"No, nothing yet. They’ve protected him very well," Bella Quarter said, her mood slightly complicated.

Julia Land was living a happy life with her son and daughter.

"Nothing yet?" Eleanor Thompson frowned. "I’ve arranged to meet Henry at the bar tonight. I’ll ask him then."

Bella nodded slightly but still reminded her, "Eleanor, whatever you plan to ask Henry, be careful. Henry is friends with Carson Dunn. If he senses you have ulterior motives, he might turn the tables on you."

Eleanor sneered coldly, "Don’t worry, Sister Bella, I know what I’m doing."

She first sent a text to Henry.

[Are we meeting tonight? Sun Seeker Bar, 8 PM]

Henry hadn’t expected Eleanor Thompson to invite him out for drinks.

He replied with a single word: [Okay]

Henry put his phone down and looked across the room at Carson, who was discussing wedding details with the planner.

Sighing inwardly, he thought, even though he knew Carson and Dale Land’s relationship was stable, he hadn’t expected them to be preparing for marriage so soon.

After the wedding planner left, Henry teased Carson, "Hey, didn’t think you’d move this fast, tying yourself down already!"

Carson just smiled gently and said, "Sometimes, when you meet the right person, settling down sooner is a good thing."

Henry clasped his hands together in mock admiration and laughed, "Respect. By the way, Eleanor Thompson asked me out for drinks tonight, so I’ll head out first."

When Carson heard Eleanor’s name, his brows furrowed slightly, but he couldn’t interfere in other people’s friendships.

Still, he had a nagging feeling that Eleanor, with her lofty airs, had ulterior motives for approaching Henry.

*

The Sun Seeker Bar had private rooms available.

For convenience, Eleanor specifically booked one of the private rooms tonight.

Henry arrived a bit before 8 PM.

Not long after he entered the room, Eleanor arrived as well.

She sat down and ordered some drinks.

The drinks Eleanor ordered were the most expensive in the bar. Henry groaned inwardly—his paycheck hadn’t been issued yet this month; had he known, he wouldn’t have agreed to come out drinking.

"So, what made you think of inviting me out for a drink tonight?" Henry asked casually with a smile.

"Life’s been boring, so obviously I needed someone to drink with," Eleanor tossed out a casual excuse.

"True enough. Unlike me, though, you don’t have to work a regular job like a salaryman."

They each had a few drinks. While Eleanor was racking her brain for ways to steer the conversation toward Alice Thompson,

she suddenly heard Henry say, "Oh, by the way, Carson and Little Dale are planning to get married."

He brought it up to discourage Eleanor from continuing to harbor thoughts about Carson. There was no chance for them.

The news of Dale Land’s wedding to Carson surprised Eleanor so much that her expression nearly changed. But she quickly masked her emotion, putting on a disappointed face. "They’re getting married so soon? When is it?"

Henry nodded, taking a sip of his drink. "Yup, they’re already planning it. The wedding is set for September 2."

"That soon?" Eleanor kept a faint smile on her lips, pretending to stay strong. "Congratulations to them; I guess I can finally let it go. Tonight, stay with me and let’s drink until we’re wasted."

Henry drank quite a bit with Eleanor, though she herself drank much less.

When Eleanor felt the timing was right, she casually asked, "I’m curious, why is Julia Land’s brother called Alice Thompson? Are they half-siblings with different fathers?"

By now, Henry was a bit tipsy, though not entirely drunk, and he answered, "No, they’re full siblings—same mother, same father. Little Dale’s mother is the head of the Dale Group."

Eleanor smirked coldly as she raised her glass, taking a slow sip of wine. "So, where does Alice go to kindergarten? I happen to have a relative looking for one."

Henry shook his head. "No idea."

Eleanor was a bit disappointed with this answer, and the two continued drinking.

She set her glass down and sneered, "I just don’t get why any man would like someone with Julia Land’s figure. Don’t men all prefer women with better bodies?"

Drunk, Henry chuckled awkwardly, slurring slightly. "Let me tell you something. Carson doesn’t really like her type, he’s just with her because... because..."

"Because what?" Eleanor thought Henry was just babbling drunkenly. If Carson didn’t like her, why would they be getting married? She snorted coldly. "Carson and Julia are about to get married, and you’re saying he doesn’t like her?"

"It’s true... really true," Henry mumbled, his speech becoming increasingly incoherent.

Eleanor rolled her eyes in disdain.

Looking at the thoroughly drunk Henry, her expression turned impatient.

She had hoped to glean some useful information from him tonight, but his drunken rambling yielded nothing of value.

All she found out was that Julia Land and Carson’s wedding was set for September 2.

Seeing how drunk Henry was, she summoned her bodyguards to escort him to a hotel.

The bodyguards nodded and helped the unsteady Henry out of the bar.

**

The next day, at noon.

Eleanor went to the Thompson Group again.

When Bella Quarter learned of Julia Land and Carson Dunn’s upcoming wedding, she was briefly stunned. "Getting married on September 2? That soon?"

Eleanor nodded, visibly frustrated.

Bella’s eyes flickered before she smiled faintly. "To be honest, when Carson was working as an assistant, I thought he was quite capable. I even thought about introducing him to you—you two would look perfect together."

Hearing this, Eleanor laughed dryly. "Sister Bella, I didn’t expect you to have such thoughts. But Carson’s looks and physique do fit my aesthetic preferences; it’s just that his personality is so annoying."

With a subtle shift in her gaze, Bella said lightly, "You know, things can still change before the wedding. Even after they’re married, it doesn’t mean there’s no chance to stir things up."

Eleanor listlessly nodded. "Got it. By the way, my brother mentioned you and your husband are trying to conceive?"

"Yes," Bella said, staring at her computer screen with a slight smile. "I just saw a wild piece of news—a younger sister had an affair with her older sister’s boyfriend, and the older sister caught them in the act. They ended up fighting in the street."

"The world always has crazy headlines," Eleanor sneered before falling into thought.

What if she could lure Carson into bed? Wouldn’t that make Julia Land feel even worse?

In Eleanor’s mind, sex was casual—just a way to satisfy a need, as long as the person fit her aesthetic.

With that thought, Eleanor picked up her purse and stood. "Sister Bella, I’ve got something to do. I’ll leave now."

Bella remained seated, watching Eleanor’s retreating figure. A complex emotion flickered in her eyes.

After all, she had grown up with the twins and shared so many years of bonds with them.

"Eleanor, don’t blame me. If you must, blame Julia Land and her family instead."
