Chapter 401 All Just a Scam
Chapter 401: Chapter 401 All Just a Scam
Regarding Eleanor Thompson’s threat.
At this moment.
Snowlyn Winters felt both fear and anger.
She was just an ordinary woman from a modest family; how could she possibly stand up to someone like Eleanor Thompson, the heiress of a grand family?
But how was she supposed to call Carson Dunn over?
They’d only exchanged a couple of sentences at the hospital, and they weren’t even acquaintances now.
Snowlyn gritted her teeth and edited a message to Eleanor Thompson: [Miss Thompson, I don’t even know his phone number. Please give me some more time.]
Eleanor Thompson saw Snowlyn’s response and muttered under her breath, "Useless."
At this moment, Bella Quarter maintained a composed smile while socializing, secretly watching Dale Land and Carson Dunn from the corner of her eye.
The banquet was nearing its end, and Carson Dunn was still here—this meant Eleanor Thompson hadn’t taken any action.
Honestly, Bella Quarter felt disappointed.
*
When Dale Land returned home from the banquet, there was only one word she could use to describe herself—exhausted.
Julia Land saw how fatigued her daughter looked and felt a pang of sympathy. "Go freshen up and rest quickly."
Dale Land dragged her tired body over and leaned against Julia Land. "Mommy, dealing with those people tonight was so draining. I feel like I have so much more to learn."
Julia Land lovingly stroked her daughter’s hair. "As the chairwoman of Dale Group, there’ll be even more challenges ahead. But it’s okay; we’ll take it one step at a time. No one becomes capable of everything right away. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You’ve done so well already."
Dale Land smiled contentedly at her mother’s praise. "Thanks, Mommy. Oh, by the way, Madame Bell came to the office again this afternoon."
Julia Land chuckled softly. "I heard about it. Go take a shower and rest early."
Dale Land nodded, getting up. "Mommy, you two should rest early, too. Good night."
Julia Land watched her daughter head upstairs and felt a hint of melancholy.
She turned to James Thompson. "Mr. Thompson, why is Madame Bell so eager to see me?"
James Thompson squeezed Julia Land’s hand and responded in his usual cool tone, "Your husband’s not a mind reader."
Julia Land rolled her eyes. This man, even at his age, still acted so childish. Nevertheless, she decided to reward James Thompson.
After their intimate moment ended.
James Thompson, now satisfied with his reward, earnestly answered her earlier question. "If you really want to know, you should meet her. Otherwise, her frequent visits to Dale Group are going to get on your nerves."
Julia Land listened to his words and nodded slightly, knowing he had a point.
"Alright," Julia Land sighed, "I’ll make time to meet her tomorrow and see what’s going on."
*
The next morning, as Dale Land was about to leave for work.
Julia Land mentioned to Dale Land to call her if Madame Bell came to Dale Group again that day.
"Alright, I’ll do that. Daddy, Mommy, Alice, I’m off to work."
Not long after Dale Land left, they were getting Alice Thompson ready for kindergarten.
However, Alice seemed to be in one of her lazy moods today.
Julia Land watched Alice clinging stubbornly to James Thompson’s leg and rubbing her temple in frustration.
Sometimes, this child just didn’t want to go to kindergarten.
James Thompson dragged the little one hanging off his leg, carrying his son’s backpack in his hand.
"Daddy, baby’s sick today," Alice Thompson blinked her big, innocent eyes and looked aggrieved. "Daddy, baby really doesn’t feel good."
James Thompson stopped walking and gazed down at the little one wrapped around his leg. "Hmm, I see. Daddy’s going to take Alice to get a shot."
"....."
"Sweet medicine will do, no need for a shot." Alice Thompson licked his lips, finding the sweet medicine delicious, while shots were painful.
Julia Land, "..." This foolish son loved food so much he even wanted sweet medicine.
James Thompson remained expressionless and said flatly, "Sweet medicine won’t work either. You have to get the shot."
Alice Thompson pouted for a moment, then finally let go of his father’s leg and straightened his small chest. "Alice’s sickness is all better now; I’ll go to school."
He stretched out his chubby little hand for James Thompson to hold.
"Mommy, Alice is going to school."
"Julia, we’re heading out."
Julia Land stood at the door and watched the father and son’s retreating backs, smiling quietly.
*
In the afternoon, Madame Bell visited Dale Group again.
She originally thought she might not see Julia Land this time, yet Julia Land unexpectedly agreed to meet her.
Julia Land walked into the office and saw Madame Bell seated in the chair.
Madame Bell looked frail, lacking her usual vitality.
Julia Land was a bit taken aback.
The always impeccably dressed Madame Bell had changed.
Dale Land left the office first.
It was the first meeting between the two women in over a decade.
Madame Bell raised her head and carefully studied Julia Land, a fatigued smile appearing on her face. "Julia, it’s been a long time."
Julia Land sat down on the couch, her tone very calm. "Madame Bell, what do you want to discuss?"
Madame Bell looked at Julia Land’s cool demeanor and listened to her measured words, feeling uneasy.
This was the reason she never liked Julia Land much—she seemed cold-hearted and indifferent.
However, thinking of Celeste Lewis and her son’s affairs, Madame Bell sighed. "Julia, I came today to discuss something with you."
"Discuss?" Julia Land raised an eyebrow slightly, surprised by Madame Bell’s words.
Madame Bell nodded, her expression tinged with helplessness. "Yes, discuss. I know our mother-daughter relationship is poor, but now, considering I’m halfway to the grave already, I hope you can agree to one thing for me."
Even after hearing Madame Bell describe herself as halfway to the grave, Julia Land’s expression remained calm, unchanged. "What do you want me to do?"
Madame Bell’s eyes revealed a hint of pain. "I still have ten percent of Bell Clan’s shares and additional personal assets. After I pass away, I hope you’ll inherit them. Don’t refuse to take them."
Julia Land didn’t immediately respond to Madame Bell’s words but quietly watched her instead.
Madame Bell clearly sensed the scrutiny in Julia Land’s eyes, feeling both humiliated and furious as she explained.
"I only recently found out that Celeste Lewis and her son’s kindness toward me all these years have been a complete sham—they’re after my shares and my assets left behind.
