Chapter 400: Chapter 400 Two Old Men

The back of Dale Land’s head was facing Carson Dunn.

The makeup artist’s skills were exceptional.

They made her face look slightly slimmer.

Carson Dunn clenched his palm into a fist, pressing it against his thin lips as he gave a light cough. "Little Dale, I’m sorry, it’s my bad eyesight."

The car arrived at the hotel hosting the corporate banquet.

A crowd of reporters was gathered at the hotel entrance, their flashbulbs constantly flickering.

Tonight’s corporate banquet had drawn considerable media attention.

Carson Dunn held Dale Land’s hand as they walked toward the hotel entrance.

"Who are they?" A reporter, unfamiliar with Dale Land and Carson Dunn, turned to ask a colleague.

"I don’t know, just take photos for now."

Nearby, a business-news journalist kindly shared, "The woman is the newly appointed CEO of the Dale Group."

As soon as Dale Land entered the lobby, she felt the evaluating gazes from all around.

Her eyes quickly scanned the room.

She saw Tara Young speaking intently with an elderly man and also noticed Bella Quarter, sitting in a wheelchair nearby, with Chloe Lewis, the head of the Lewis Clan, and Maxwell Bell of the Bell Group. Most of the big players in the circle had shown up at this banquet.

As the newly appointed CEO of the Dale Group, Dale Land’s presence naturally garnered significant attention.

Before long, a few business professionals approached her proactively for conversation.

"Director Lee, it’s a pleasure to meet you," Dale Land said, having fortunately reviewed the attendee profiles in advance, skillfully addressing him at their first encounter.

Director Lee was pleased that Dale Land had correctly identified him. He smiled warmly and remarked, "Director Land, you truly are young and talented. I’ve heard that since your appointment, you’ve already spearheaded several initiatives at the Dale Group. Quite impressive!"

"You flatter me, Director Lee," Dale Land responded humbly.

Director Lee turned his attention to the elegant man beside Dale Land. "And this gentleman is?"

Carson Dunn smiled faintly. "Hello, I’m Little Dale’s fiancé, from the Dunn Family in Sea Pearl City."

Not far away, Bella Quarter heard Carson Dunn’s statement. She turned her head slightly in her wheelchair.

The Dunn Family from Sea Pearl City?

Wasn’t the Dunn Family’s primary business in jewelry?

Bella’s expression remained polite, but uneasiness stirred within her. A distinguished Dunn Family member infiltrating the Thompson Family’s company for his girlfriend’s sake? Unbelievable!

She glanced at Dale Land, who was engaged in lively discourse with several business professionals.

To Bella, Dale Land appeared effortlessly composed.

A faint competitive streak instantly ignited within Bella.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Bell, having concluded his conversations with other executives, directed a complex gaze toward Dale Land.

Julia Land’s daughter—she didn’t much resemble Julia.

Maxwell Bell recalled his aunt, who currently resided in the hospital. Striding toward Dale Land, he decided to approach her.

Noticing Maxwell Bell’s approach right after wrapping up her conversation with Director Lee, Dale Land smiled politely and said, "Director Bell, a pleasure to meet you."

Maxwell hesitated momentarily. "You should call me Uncle."

Maintaining her composed smile, Dale replied, "I wouldn’t want to address anyone inappropriately. I’ll stick with Director Bell."

Maxwell blinked, momentarily caught off guard by Dale Land’s response. A fleeting change crossed his expression—her demeanor certainly mirrored Julia Land’s.

He quickly regained composure. "If possible, have your mother visit the hospital to see the elder."

Maxwell Bell felt that years ago, Julia Land’s break with the Bell Family had stemmed from his aunt’s misplaced trust in the wrong people, leading to Dale Land’s separation from her mother.

Now that Dale Land was alive, he thought Julia Land should let go of the past and visit the elder in the hospital.

Dale Land gave a faint smile but didn’t respond to Maxwell’s suggestion.

There was no way her mother would visit the matriarch of the Bell Family.

Recognizing this wasn’t the occasion to discuss family matters, Maxwell dropped the subject and excused himself.

Taking Carson Dunn’s arm, Dale Land proceeded to greet Tara Young.

After all, the Dale Group had a partnership with the Thompson Group.

"Director Young, good evening," Dale Land greeted with a warm smile.

Tara Young’s deep-set eyes rested on Dale Land and Carson Dunn. He nodded slightly. "Good evening."

"Miss Land, good evening." Bella Quarter, seated in her wheelchair, spoke first to Dale Land with a gentle smile in her voice.

"Miss Quarter, a pleasure to meet you," Dale responded cordially.

Bella nodded lightly, shifting her gaze from Dale Land’s face to Carson Dunn. "Mr. Dunn, I heard you left the Thompson Family’s company to start your own business?"

Carson smiled faintly. "Not exactly starting a business—just planning to establish a branch office in Capital City."

Bella acknowledged with a slight nod. "Congratulations in advance."

Tara Young observed the dynamic among the trio with faint curiosity, his calm gaze offering no hint of emotion.

Such business exchanges were routine fare for attendees here.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Dale Land and Carson Dunn moved on to converse with other guests.

Bella Quarter had her assistant push her to a quiet corner. Taking out her phone, she sent a message to Eleanor Thompson.

[Eleanor, I’m at the corporate banquet tonight, and I just saw Dale Land and Carson Dunn attending together.]

Eleanor Thompson was at a party—the lights outside sparkled, and the music was deafening. She held a glass of red wine while mingling with a few socialites.

Her phone vibrated in her hand, drawing her attention to Bella Quarter’s message.

So, Carson Dunn and Dale Land were at the corporate banquet, too.

Reading the message, Eleanor’s brows furrowed slightly.

She quickly typed a reply: [Find a way to get Carson to meet you tonight.]

After sending the message, Eleanor felt a surge of satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Snowlyn Winters leaned against a hospital bed. Seeing Eleanor’s text, she snorted coldly.

Though her chance encounter with Lorenzo Thornton and subsequent interactions with Carson Dunn were due to an accident, it wasn’t enough for Carson to abandon his priorities for her.

She wasn’t a fool.

Snowlyn sneered but hesitated to respond to the text.

Ultimately, she tossed the phone aside, leaned back against the pillow, and closed her eyes to rest.

She decided to pretend she’d never seen the message.

Back at the party, Eleanor grew irritated by Snowlyn’s lack of response. She angrily sent another message.

[Snowlyn, if you don’t get Carson to leave tonight, I’ll send two older men to ’serve’ you!]

Snowlyn’s eyes fixated on Eleanor’s latest message, and her face turned pale.

Snowlyn knew Eleanor meant it.

If she disobeyed, Eleanor would indeed carry out her threat of sending two old men her way.
