Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Ugly Girl, Come Here

"Julia, can you hear me talking?"

The sound of the waves was a bit loud, so Sophia Hart raised her voice slightly.

Julia Land straightened up from James Thompson’s arms the moment she heard Sophia Hart’s voice, "Where are you right now?"

Sophia Hart’s feet were buried in the sand, drawing circles with her toes. She was wearing a loose-fitting dress, "I’m in Little Fish Village on the West Coast, Julia, I’m doing well here, don’t worry about me."

Julia Land frowned, wondering why she had gone so far away, "What exactly happened between you and Andrew Benson?"

Sophia Hart hung her head, a bitter smile emerging on her sweet face, "His mother suddenly ran to me and attempted suicide with a knife; she slit her wrists. I ran away while Andrew Benson was at the hospital visiting his mother."

Julia Land was speechless. She couldn’t help but curse out loud, "Is she sick?!"

She seemed quite unwell indeed.

The moment Sophia Hart remembered Anneliese King coldly cutting her wrists, she still felt a chill in her heart.

She sighed softly, "Julia, I want to live a simple life here in the future, wake up every day to the sound of the sea, and, Julia, I... I’m pregnant, but I don’t know... whether to keep this child or not."

The child was unexpected. When Andrew Benson was on her that day, his mother suddenly arrived.

That thing accidentally got left inside.

Afterward, with Anneliese King cutting her wrists and Sophia Hart busy fleeing, the chaos made her forget to take her medication.

Julia Land was momentarily lost for words. After a silence, she said, "Sophia, no matter what decision you make, Mr. Thompson and I will support you. Listen, think it over carefully now, whether you want the child or not."

Sophia Hart smiled, "Okay."

The two of them talked for a while, discussing recent events before hanging up.

After the call ended, Julia Land leaned back into James Thompson’s arms again, her face showing concern.

James Thompson hugged her, "Is Sophia Hart okay?"

Julia Land nodded, then shook her head, "She says she wants to live in Little Fish Village on the West Coast in the future. Andrew Benson’s mother attempted suicide in front of her and also, she’s pregnant."

She rubbed her temples.

James Thompson frowned, "I didn’t expect Andrew Benson’s mother to be so extreme. I wouldn’t recommend her keeping the child, because it would just lead to endless troubles, but it’s a decision she needs to make herself."

"Sophia probably understands that too."

Julia Land thought of her own daughter, not knowing what she would be like when she grew up, what kind of man she would meet in the future.

Her thoughts wandered far.

Madame Bell went to the hospital for a kidney checkup today.

At the hospital, she ran into Madame Fields, who was also there for a checkup.

Madame Fields, seeing Madame Bell, approached her with a smile, "Madame Bell, what a coincidence, your daughter is truly exceptional. Every time my husband mentions Julia Land, he gives a thumbs up."

Madame Fields genuinely admired Julia Land’s prowess for having turned the Moore Family group into her own Dale Group at such a young age.

If her son had even half of Julia Land’s skills, she and her husband would be delighted.

Madame Bell smiled awkwardly, "Thank you for the compliment, Madame Fields."

Madame Fields had also heard rumours about the strained relationship between Madame Bell and Julia Land, so her praise of Julia Land in front of Madame Bell was well-intentioned.

It was not easy to reconcile with a daughter who had been estranged for many years. How could she not be cherished, rather than being at odds.

Madame Fields just couldn’t understand what Madame Bell was thinking.

And there was another matter, everyone was actually very curious about how Connor Bell’s property was distributed after his death?

The Bell Clan members had not mentioned the property distribution to the public, so they were also in the dark.

Madame Fields asked curiously, "Will your daughter take over the Bell Group in the future?"

Madame Bell’s expression changed slightly as she responded indifferently, "She is focused on her own business now; currently, all her energy is on the Dale Group. Arthur has been managing the Bell Group all along, and we all trust him."

Madame Fields, sensing Madame Bell’s coolness, smiled and said, "I’ll get going then, hope to chat another time when we’re free."

Madame Bell nodded, "Sure."

Watching Madame Fields walk away, Madame Bell’s feelings were tangled.

Though she rarely went out, she always heard rumors about Julia Land from various channels.

Some said Julia Land was ruthless; others praised her for being formidable.

To Madame Bell, it seemed that Julia Land’s heart was simply too harsh.

Madame Bell’s thoughts were interrupted by a ringtone.

She took out her phone, glanced at the screen’s caller ID, and saw that it was a call from Maxwell Bell.

Madame Bell answered the phone.

"Auntie, where are you now? I’ve arrived at the hospital." Maxwell Bell knew Madame Bell was going to the hospital for a check-up this afternoon, so he specially rushed from the company to accompany her.

Hearing Maxwell’s voice, Madame Bell felt slightly better, "I’m in the Renal Department, room F112."

Right now, Madame Bell thought that since Julia Land already had the Dale Group, it would be better for Arthur to continue managing the Bell Group.

Arthur has always managed the Bell Group in an orderly and efficient manner.

**

At this time, two men arrived at Basket Village.

After getting out of the car, they wiped the sweat off their foreheads and looked at the backward little village.

After the car drove away.

"Let’s go find the village head first," one of the men said.

They had already visited several villages and could not find the girl their boss was looking for in the previous ones.

They didn’t know if this village would be any different.

They did not dare to blatantly ask the villagers if they had seen any strange girls.

Each time, they stayed in the village under the pretext of wanting to buy land for farming or building a factory to inquire about the situation.

"Hopefully, we can find some clues this time," the man said, his voice tinged with weariness.

"Indeed," replied the other man.

"This village is really backward," the man murmured, "I wonder if that little girl would be here."

They walked into the village.

"Fellow villager, where is the village head’s house?" One of the men pulled out a cigarette and offered it to an old man while asking.

The old man took the cigarette, squinted at them for a moment, then pointed, "The village head’s house is over there. Just follow this road and you’ll find it by a large locust tree."

"Thank you, fellow villager," the man said, nodding his thanks.

The two followed the direction pointed out by the old man.

Most of the houses in the village were mud-brick and looked old and run-down.

A few children were playing and looked at the two strangers with curiosity and fear.

After walking a while, they saw the large locust tree with several villagers taking shade underneath.

The village head’s house was right next to the tree, a slightly newer brick-tile house.

"Is the village head at home?" they asked as they approached the door.

A middle-aged man wearing a sleeveless undershirt came out of the house. Seeing the two strangers, he asked in puzzlement, "What do you want with me?"

"Village head, we are looking to see if the mountainous land here is suitable for cultivation; we are planning to lease the mountain land," the man politely said.

The village head’s eyes lit up slightly. This was good news, and he said with a smile, "Great, please come in and have a seat, let’s talk."

Hazel Fields also happened to be cool under the large locust tree, and she overheard the conversation between the two strangers and the village head.

She hurried home to tell Jack Munday about the men coming to lease the mountain land.

Jack Munday was comfortably lounging in his rocking chair, listening to music.

After hearing what Hazel had to say, he frowned, "Make sure Ugly Janet doesn’t leave the house. Just tie her up in the room with a rope for now."

Hazel nodded, "I’ll go find a rope."

She went to the storeroom, searched and found a rope, then walked outside to where Dale Land was feeding the chickens, "Ugly Janet, come here."

Dale Land looked up with a hint of panic but obediently put down the chicken feed and approached Hazel.

"Come in."

Dale Land followed Hazel into the storeroom, which was also the place she slept.

Hazel took out the rope and roughly tied up Dale Land’s ankles, "You stay here, don’t leave this room, got it?"

Dale Land looked at the rope tied around her ankles and kept silent.

Hazel didn’t expect Dale Land to make any sound.

She took a stool, stepped on it, and tied the other end of the rope to the overhead beam. After securing the knot, she stepped down from the stool and left the storeroom.

The door to the room closed.

Dale Land moved her feet.

She tilted her head and clutched the hem of her clothes tightly with her small hands.
