Chapter 318: Chapter 318: She tugged at his clothes
Sophie Woods waited nervously for Jasper Winters’ response, continuing, "Really, I’ll just say a few words."
Jasper Winters smiled and said, "I’ll call the boss first, but I can’t guarantee that he will agree to meet you."
A flicker of surprise crossed Sophie Woods’ eyes, "Thank you, Mr. Winters, I really appreciate it."
The two of them left the hospital first, and once outside, Jasper Winters made the call to James Thompson.
Waiting for James Thompson to answer on the other end, he reported, "BOSS, Miss Woods wants to meet you, she says she has some words to share with you."
Sophie Woods’ heart was a mix of nervousness and anticipation.
She bolstered herself inwardly: All I want is to confess my feelings, I’m not trying to be the other woman, what’s wrong with that?
At this moment, James Thompson was in the Dale Group office, massaging Julia Land’s shoulders, and he had the phone on speaker when he received Jasper Winters’ call.
Julia Land, lying on the couch, raised an eyebrow.
James Thompson asked indifferently, "What’s the matter with her?"
"I told her to speak directly to you." Jasper Winters handed the phone to Sophie Woods so she could tell things herself.
Sophie Woods took the phone nervously, took a deep breath, "BOSS, I have something I want to say to you personally, may I see you face-to-face?"
From the other end of the phone came James Thompson’s casual, low voice, "Miss Woods, if you have something important, you can say it over the phone."
His palm continued to massage Julia Land’s shoulders.
Sophie Woods gripped the phone tightly, her face flushed, gathering her courage to say, "BOSS, I like you. From the first time I saw you, I’ve had feelings for you. I know this might be presumptuous, but I don’t want to live with regrets, so I decided to confess to you."
Jasper Winters, "...Dammit, it’s a confession."
And at the other end of the phone, the color drained from James Thompson’s face upon the unexpected confession.
Julia Land was taken aback for a moment. She turned to look at James Thompson, a smirk about to form on her lips as she tugged at his clothes.
She hadn’t misjudged the situation.
A good man will be confessed to; as long as he stands firm, there’s no need to worry about infidelity.
The same applies to a good woman; men will approach her too.
Seeing Julia Land teasing him, James Thompson gave a light laugh, his large hand cradling the back of her head, his thin lips pressing against her red ones.
Finally, it was Julia Land who couldn’t take it anymore, gasping for breath, "Stop..."
Sophie Woods, still on the phone waiting for James Thompson’s response, was caught off guard by the sound of a woman’s moan, her already tense emotions plummeting.
The blow was too swift and fierce.
Sophie Woods didn’t hang up immediately; stubbornly, she waited for a word.
But what came instead was the sound of the call being disconnected on the other end.
With her lips clenched, her eyes reddening, tears swirling in her eyes, Sophie Woods lowered her head and returned the phone to Jasper Winters, "Thank you."
After saying this, she prepared to leave quickly.
Jasper Winters called out to Sophie Woods, "Miss Woods, wait."
Sophie Woods stopped in her tracks.
Jasper Winters spoke gently, "Miss Woods, the BOSS only has Miss Land in his heart."
Sophie Woods’ retreating figure looked somewhat disheveled.
Jasper Winters put the phone away into his pocket, turning his head to look at Elizabeth Shaw standing not far away.
Elizabeth Shaw was worried about Sophie Woods, so she had come out to see.
She approached Jasper Winters and said in a low voice, "I’m sorry for the trouble."
Jasper Winters smiled faintly, "It’s no bother."
He walked to where the driver had parked the car, opened the door, bent down, and sat inside.
Jasper Winters made this call for Sophie Woods out of respect for Elizabeth Shaw.
The car drove away, and he allowed himself a wry smile, wondering if the boss would be angry.

In the office at that moment.
After hanging up Sophie Woods’ call, James Thompson carried Julia Land to the rest room.
Julia Land’s recent mocking look made James Thompson think of that kid Tyler Hughes.
That brat had once tried to steal his girl.
"Wait, I don’t have any of that stuff here," Julia Land lay sideways on the bed, sighing seductively.
It was unclear if that sigh was one of regret or schadenfreude.
They would only ever have Dale Land, their daughter, and wouldn’t have any other children in this lifetime.
James Thompson covered Julia Land’s body, his fingers interlocked with hers on the bed, he hoarsely said, "I know, don’t worry, we’ll do it outside."
Today during the lunch break, Julia Land started dealing with work an hour later than usual.
When James Thompson left his office, he took a thermos container with him.
He also carried a bag, which contained bed sheets that needed to be taken home for washing.
Jasper Winters entered the living room with an apologetic demeanor. For the matter regarding Sophie Woods, he definitely had to admit his mistake to the BOSS.
James Thompson spoke in a calm tone laced with sternness, "Let there be no next time."
Jasper Winters quickly nodded, "Understood, I guarantee there won’t be a next time."
After this topic was concluded, the two started to discuss expanding the search efforts.
"Continue hiring more staff. The newly established search company, while looking for Dale, should also help others who have likewise gone missing."
He hoped that through this expansion of the search, not only would he find his daughter, but also help more families experiencing the same ordeal.
Jasper Winters nodded in understanding, "I get it."
Julia Land returned home after work in the evening and saw James Thompson sitting on the sofa reviewing documents.
James Thompson chose to work on the sofa as a convenient way to wait for Julia Land to come home.
Julia Land walked over, kissed him, then sat down and whispered, "Mr. Thompson, I have to attend a business banquet tomorrow night."
James Thompson put down the document in his hands, "Who’s hosting the business banquet? I’ll accompany you."
"It’s hosted by the Wells Family," Julia Land leaned lazily against the sofa, and she turned to look at James Thompson with a smile, shaking her head, "I’ll go by myself. I’ll just make an appearance and come back soon. It won’t take long."
She didn’t tell James Thompson about Uncle Moore’s plan to take her life tomorrow night.
If she did, Mr. Thompson would definitely not feel at ease letting her attend the business banquet tomorrow.
Uncle Moore and his cohort wanted her life, and as it happens, she had no intention of letting them off the hook either.

The following evening.
The banquet hall was brightly lit.
The guests, dressed in glamorous gowns, mingled and conversed in small groups.
When Julia Land, dressed in a long gown, entered the venue, she attracted quite a few glances.
Julia Land was now a frequently-discussed figure in the Capital City circles.
Capable and beautiful, she was the center of attention everywhere she went.
Julia Land, with a light smile, first went to greet the hosts from the Wells Family, and then mingled with a few people who collaborated with the Dale Group.
Standing not too far away, Uncle Moore and Mason Moore exchanged glances.
A flash of triumphant ruthlessness crossed Uncle Moore’s eyes.
They hadn’t expected Julia Land to attend the banquet alone, which undoubtedly played right into their hands.
Mason Moore whispered to Uncle Moore, "Opportunity is rare."
The two shared unspoken understanding with a nod.
Julia Land keenly sensed someone watching her.
She pretended to turn casually, meeting Uncle Moore’s gaze head-on.
Uncle Moore smiled and raised his glass as a toast.
Julia Land smiled back and raised her glass in return.
At that moment, a waiter carrying a tray passed by Julia Land.
He accidentally knocked over the tray, spilling some wine onto Julia Land’s dress.
Julia Land paused for a moment, looked down at her stained dress, and frowned slightly.
"I’m so sorry!" The waiter’s face turned pale as he hurriedly apologized, looking very flustered.
Julia Land smiled gently, her tone remaining calm, "It’s okay, be more careful."
Seeing that Julia Land didn’t blame him, the waiter sighed with relief and apologized once more before leaving.
Uncle Moore and Mason Moore stood nearby, both with smiles on their faces as they witnessed the scene.
Julia Land went to the restroom.
She picked up a napkin from beside her and dabbed at the wine stain on her dress.
After carefully inspecting the stain on her dress to ensure there was nothing unusual,
She looked down and readjusted herself. As a woman walked into the restroom, suddenly someone with a cloth in hand covered Julia Land’s nose and mouth.
Julia Land lost consciousness instantaneously.
