Chapter 313: Chapter 313 So What If They Are Rich

"Julia? What’s happened?" James Thompson touched her forehead with concern.

"I’m fine," Julia Land came back to her senses, striving to keep her voice steady as she ate, thinking about whether her daughter had eaten enough. "Did that man reveal my daughter’s whereabouts?"

James Thompson shook his head, his brow deeply furrowed.

Julia Land despondently set down her chopsticks, staring at the food on the table, a sense of powerlessness washing over her.

Seeing that she had only taken a few bites, James Thompson didn’t try to persuade her to eat more, silently putting down his own chopsticks as well.

The two of them fell silent for a while.

Julia rested against the sofa, tilting her head back and gently pinching the bridge of her nose.

"There’s no news about Sophia either," her voice conveyed loss and helplessness.

It was unclear where Sophia Hart had gone.

James Thompson moved closer to Julia and took her hand, "Andrew Benson is also looking for her."

Julia nodded slightly, her gaze distant, "Mr. Thompson, I’m really worried. Dale is so young; I have no idea how she’s faring right now..."

What did it matter that they had money if they couldn’t find their daughter?

Julia slightly curled her lips into a bitter smile.

As a child abandoned to an orphanage, she lived in constant fear of molestation by old men, afraid of her organs being harvested. Would her daughter have to suffer such an unfair fate as well?

A deep pain shone in Julia’s eyes.

Only those who have truly experienced hell understand that unforgettable fear.

Seeing the pained smile on Julia’s face, James Thompson tenderly embraced her.

Julia closed her eyes, "I’m really scared, in case... in case... No, that’s not right, there won’t be any ’in case.’ We will definitely find our daughter."

Julia allowed herself a moment of weakness, a brief respite, before her rest was over, and she returned to her calm professional demeanor.

Her weaknesses were unveiled without reservation only in front of James Thompson.

James Thompson took the remaining food and left the office. He paused by Tyler Hughes’s desk on his way out.

He looked at Tyler Hughes and said in a low voice, "Assistant Hughes, please bring some snacks to your boss in an hour."

Tyler Hughes nodded, "Of course, Mr. Thompson, I’ll deliver them on time."

James Thompson smiled, "Thanks."

Watching James Thompson’s retreating back, Tyler Hughes suddenly felt sentimental: so the boss liked this kind of man.

James Thompson didn’t go straight home after leaving Dale Group, but asked the driver to head to the suburbs.

James Knight was already waiting downstairs for James Thompson.

These days, the BOSS would come over after noon to interrogate that man surnamed Wolfe.

"I’ve told you before, your daughter is dead."

Elijah Wolfe repeated the same phrase, not knowing how much longer he could hold on, but aware that if he revealed Dale Land’s whereabouts, he would die even faster.

James Thompson put on boxing gloves, slightly turning his head to give Elijah Wolfe a cold look.

He signaled for James Knight to also give Wolfe a pair of boxing gloves.

Wolfe glanced at the gloves, hesitated, but then put them on.

"Since you refuse to tell the truth, let’s converse in a different way," said James Thompson icily.

Elijah Wolfe looked at James Thompson, a flicker of fear in his eyes, but he pretended to be brave, clenching his teeth and saying, "I’ve already told you, your daughter is dead."

James Thompson didn’t waste anymore words and swung his fist directly, hitting Wolfe in the abdomen.

Elijah Wolfe doubled over in pain, his face instantly turning pale.

James Thompson didn’t stop, punch after punch landed with fury.

James Knight stood at a distance, his gaze landing on the newly re-inked black mamba on his BOSS’s arm.

The BOSS seemed very angry today, he straightened his body.

Elijah Wolfe’s abdomen hurt so much he could barely breathe, but he still clenched his teeth, refusing to speak, attempting to fight back against James Thompson.

Time ticked by slowly, Wolfe’s face growing paler, the pain nearly incapacitating his ability to think.

James Thompson stopped his movements.

He slowly took off his gloves, tossed them onto Elijah Wolfe, then turned and left.

Christopher Moore really knows how to pick his subordinates; Elijah Wolfe truly has a backbone.

Tyler Hughes put the pastries on the table, "Chairwoman, these are the snacks Mr. Thompson instructed me to bring in."

Julia Land looked at the plate of pastries, "Thank you."

Tyler Hughes silently withdrew from the office.

The golden sunlight pierced through the glass windows and spilled onto Julia Land’s office. She picked up the plate of pastries with one hand, held up her mobile phone with the other, and opened the camera function towards the sky outside the window.

The sun shone through the glass, setting off the pastries and the background of blue sky and white clouds, making them exceptionally beautiful.

She captured this photo and then sent it to James Thompson: [Mr. Thompson, thank you.]

Julia Land picked up a piece of the pastry, took a light bite, the corners of her mouth carrying a faint smile.

The sweet flavor of the pastries spread through her mouth.

At that moment, there was a gentle knock on the office door.

Julia Land put down the pastry and took a sip of tea.

Michael Scott entered the office and said in a steady voice, "Chairwoman, last night Old Mrs. Hamilton found out that Finn Hamilton was actually caught because he was working for Uncle Moore, and she went to Uncle Moore’s house causing a commotion. Uncle Moore’s face even got scratched by Old Mrs. Hamilton."

A hint of coldness flashed in Julia Land’s eyes, "He brought it upon himself. How are things on Mr. Zhang’s side?"

Michael Scott curved his lips into a subtle smile, "Lately, Mr. Zhang has been visiting the Moore family whenever he has the time, looking for Uncle Moore."

She leaned back in her chair and pointed to the business plans on the table, "Take these two proposals on the table and have them redrafted. The company’s internal situation has stabilized now, and I expect their plans for me not to be conservative without innovation."

Michael Scott responded respectfully, "Understood, Chairwoman."

At five o’clock in the afternoon, Julia Land instructed Tyler Hughes to drive to First Hospital first.

Since she had already arranged for Elizabeth Shaw’s grandfather to be at First Hospital, she should pay a visit.

When Elizabeth Shaw saw Julia Land, she stood up in surprise, "Director Land."

Julia Land’s gaze was gentle, "I came to see how your grandfather is doing."

Elizabeth Shaw was truly moved. Julia Land approached the bedside and greeted Elizabeth Shaw’s grandfather.

"Grandpa, this is Director Land who arranged the hospital for us. Without her help, we would still be searching for a hospital," Elizabeth Shaw introduced.

Gratitude shone in the old man’s eyes, "Thank you."

"You’re welcome. If you need anything, just contact me anytime," Julia Land said tenderly, "I’ll do my best to help."

Julia Land did not linger long in the hospital; after visiting the elderly man and exchanging a few words, she left the ward.

At the door of the ward, she encountered Sophie Woods. They nodded to each other as a greeting.

Sophie Woods entered the ward carrying boxed meals and handed one to Elizabeth Shaw, curiously asking, "Why did Director Land come?"

Elizabeth Shaw took the boxed meal, smiling as she replied, "She came to see my grandpa and to check on his condition. She’s really kind."

Sophie Woods nodded, then casually asked, "Director Land is a good person; I’m just curious why she’s been so kind to you?"

The last time, because of company gossip, both of them were ready to resign.

To their surprise, on the last day before resigning, Elizabeth Shaw suddenly decided to stay, and the company even promoted them and raised their salaries.

At that time, Sophie Woods asked Elizabeth Shaw and found out it was Julia Land who helped them.

Their sudden ability to stay and get promotions and raises had become known among their colleagues—everyone knew they had strong support, and the gossip gradually died down.

Hearing her friend’s uncertainty, Elizabeth Shaw smiled.

She guessed it might have something to do with Director Land’s daughter, but she couldn’t just share this with Sophie Woods, as it involved the boss’ privacy.

She simply replied to Sophie Woods, "I’m not sure, maybe Director Land felt there was a certain fate tied to my name?"

Sophie Woods heard this and nodded, guessing that Elizabeth Shaw didn’t want to tell her the truth.

Sophie Woods felt somewhat uneasy, but she also understood that her friend might have her own unspeakable reasons.
