Chapter 310: Tenderness and Pity
Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Tenderness and Pity
"Mr. Thompson, I’m going to the company."
Julia Land held her bag as she approached James Thompson, who was feeding the ducks breakfast in the backyard, and said.
"Okay." James turned his head to look at Julia, a faint smile on his lips.
After one night, when daylight came, Julia got up early acting as if nothing had happened and went to the company.
Julia left the house, got in the car, and drove off to the company.
Meanwhile, James, who was feeding the ducks in the backyard, stood up.
He washed his hands and returned to the bedroom to change clothes.
James Knight was already waiting at the door for James Thompson; seeing the BOSS come out, he opened the car door.
James bent down to get inside, the car door closed, and James Knight walked around to the passenger seat.
The car headed towards the suburbs.
En route, they passed some dilapidated buildings.
The sun gradually rose higher, shining through the car window, casting a mottled pattern of light and shadow.
Eventually, the car stopped in front of an old building.
The place looked long uninhabited, the walls patchy, the windows broken.
James got out of the car, James Knight following right behind, and they went upstairs.
The bodyguard standing at the door respectfully opened it when they arrived.
Entering the room, the air was filled with a musty smell.
James Knight opened one of the rooms, its light dim, and James walked in.
"BOSS, he still hasn’t spoken," said James Knight.
The weak man lying on the floor heard the sound, and with half an eye open, he looked at the leather shoes in front of him.
He looked up following the shoes.
"So it’s Mr. Thompson, I’ve heard a lot about you."
The man’s voice was as unpleasant as sandpaper.
James crouched down, his cold gaze fixed on the man, "Where is my daughter?"
The man let out a strained chuckle, his voice weak and trembling, "Ah, she’s dead."
James cracked a slight smile that didn’t reach his eyes, "Do you take me for a fool? Where is my daughter truly?"
The man swallowed with difficulty, chuckling, "Mr. Thompson, she... she’s really dead..."
James’s eyes turned even colder, he grabbed the man’s collar viciously, half pulling him up, "Speak!"
He forcefully restrained his anger.
The man laughed hoarsely, "Dead."
James let go of his hand, stood up, his gaze icy as he turned to James Knight, "Don’t let him die, make him taste torture twice each day."
The man lying on the floor curled his fingers slightly; he was scared but still wouldn’t reveal where Dale Land was.
James cast a cold glance at the man on the floor, then turned and left the room, "Make sure it doesn’t get discovered."
James Knight nodded, "I understand."
Back in the car, James wiped his hands with a tissue, took out his mobile phone, and dialed Julia’s number.
Waiting for Julia to pick up on the other end, he asked tenderly, "Little Julia, may I bring you lunch at noon?"
Julia gestured for the head of the product department on the podium to pause reporting and whispered to James in a low voice, "Sure, I’ll wait for you to come at noon."
Hearing Julia consent, a faint smile appeared on James’s lips, "Okay, I will be there at twelve o’clock sharp."
After hanging up the phone, Julia asked the head of the product department to continue reporting.
Meanwhile, James rubbed his brow, worried about Julia’s current state.
**
At noon, there was a gentle knock on the door to Julia’s office.
"Come in." Julia laid down her documents and looked up to see James walk in.
In his hand, he carried two insulated food containers.
James arrived at Julia’s desk, "I’ve come to join you for lunch."
He hadn’t had his own lunch yet either.
Julia smiled, "Thank you, Mr. Thompson."
They sat down on the sofa in the office, James opened the containers, and set three exquisite dishes on the table.
All were vegetarian, a test of the chef’s culinary skills.
"You try this first, see how it tastes."
James placed a piece of stir-fried tofu into Julia’s bowl, his eyes tender.
Julia took a bite, a flash of surprise in her eyes, "It’s delicious, did you hire a new chef?"
James chuckled and nodded, "Yes."
After they finished eating, James packed up the containers, "Do you have a lot of work to do this afternoon?"
Julia nodded, sighing, "Yes, there’s a lot going on with the company lately."
James said assertively upon hearing this, "Then you should rest for half an hour at noon before continuing with your work."
He gently held her hand, coaxing, "Just lie down for half an hour, and when the time comes, I’ll immediately wake you."
Not wanting to refute Mr. Thompson’s kindness, Julia nodded, "Alright, in half an hour, you must wake me."
After letting the food in her stomach settle a bit, she lay down obediently, head on James’s leg, and closed her eyes.
James, seeing Julia lie down obediently, gently stroked her hair with his hand.
With her eyes closed and James’s fingers caressing her hair, Julia felt a touch of warmth.
She quickly entered a light sleep.
James gazed down at Julia, his eyes full of gentleness and compassion.
The fatigue on her face made his heart ache.
Last night, she was startled awake several times.
If this continued, it would not be good for her health.
The office was quiet and peaceful, with only Julia’s faint breathing sounds.
Half an hour passed quite quickly.
James called softly, "Little Julia, it’s time."
Julia slowly opened her eyes, still a little drowsy.
James helped her sit up, "I need to go now, continue working hard, I’ll wait for you at home to have dinner together tonight."
Julia rubbed her forehead, "Okay."
Her head was still aching from just waking up.
James lifted her chin and kissed her deeply.
"I’ll wait for you at home tonight."
Carrying the insulated containers, he left the office.
