Chapter 297: Chapter 297 The Fool, Right?

Afternoon, 3:30 PM.

The Dale Group’s press conference venue.

Julia Land walked onto the stage.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Julia Land’s voice was very clear, "Today, I am announcing an important initiative of the Dale Group. We’re launching a trade-in program, which is not only to reward our customers but also to ensure the safety and interests of every consumer."

Julia Land continued, "Since I took office, I began investigating our company’s products. In our recent investigation, we found that some products supplied by Quanpin agents had serious quality issues."

The reporters below expressed their surprise.

"These products have not only damaged our company’s reputation but also posed a threat to our customers’ safety. For this reason, we have filed a lawsuit against Quanpin agents with the relevant authorities."

"I assure you that we will fully cooperate with the investigation and pursue the legal responsibilities of the relevant individuals. Meanwhile, we are initiating the trade-in program, hoping to thoroughly deal with the problematic products through this measure."

The reporters below raised their hands, and camera flashes kept flickering.

Julia Land signaled a reporter to ask a question.

The reporter stood up, "Director Land, what are the specifics of the trade-in program? How will consumer rights be protected?"

Julia Land answered with a smile, "We will set up collection points in major cities and also have trade-in channels on the shopping network. In addition, we will provide corresponding compensation."

Uncle Moore watched Julia Land speaking on stage through the television, gasping for air.

He smashed the water cup he was holding onto the ground; water splashed, and fragments scattered.

He had been preparing to anonymously report that Dale Shopping Network used counterfeit and inferior products to deceive consumers.

Who knew this woman would be a step ahead?

Why did she find problems with Quanpin?

Whether it was the accounts or the involved people, he had managed everything very well!

Finn Hamilton hurried into the living room, and upon seeing the mess on the ground, he looked a bit tense, "Brother-in-law, Julia Land’s press conference is very unfavourable to us. Quanpin has been sealed, what should we do next?"

Uncle Moore took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger in his heart; he needed to find a new method quickly to prevent Julia Land from continuing to control the situation.

His face turned cold, his voice carrying anger, "That thing I asked you to arrange, have you found someone?"

Finn Hamilton nodded, "I’ve found someone."

Uncle Moore narrowed his eyes, "Tell that person to get on with it. Right now."

If not now, then never!

Finn Hamilton hesitated, but he still steeled his heart and replied, "Brother-in-law, I understand."

Logan Moore also watched Julia Land’s press conference and felt an inexplicable unease. He immediately called Uncle Moore.

Uncle Moore laughed coldly, "Don’t worry; I’ve got it arranged."

Logan didn’t ask what he had prepared; he hung up the phone, feeling reassured.

*

A hutong in Capital City.

The houses on both sides of the narrow street looked very old due to their age.

On the second floor of No. 45 in the hutong lived two people.

One was a paralyzed old man, and the other was his son, George Fields.

George Fields didn’t have a job and mainly relied on his father’s meager pension to get by.

George Fields received a call from Finn Hamilton. He went into his paralyzed father’s room and took a look.

He smelled the odor of urine and wrinkled his nose in disgust.

After all, his father was already paralyzed and old, living was just a burden to others.

Death would be a benefit.

George Fields closed the bedroom door and walked to the living room.

He lit a cigarette for himself, took a puff with the cigarette at the corner of his mouth, then looked for tools and moved to the fridge.

This fridge was bought from the Moore Shopping Network a year ago, which he heard had now been renamed Dale Shopping Network.

George toyed with the fridge using the tools, then started to pack up important items in the house. He tossed the unfinished cigarette near the fridge’s power cord and quickly left home.

After George Fields left, the spark quickly ignited the power cord, and flames rapidly spread.

The fire quickly raged out of control, engulfing the entire room.

Sirens from the fire trucks echoed through the small streets, a signal to everyone that a nearby house was ablaze.

After the press conference ended, Julia Land asked Michael Scott to inform all the senior executives to come for a meeting. Once it was over, she looked at the time—it was already half-past six—and she left the conference room.

Michael escorted her downstairs, and before getting into her car, she said, "Assistant Scott, do you know what the fastest way to ruin a company’s performance is? It’s when a life is lost due to a product our company sells."

One problem after another in the company could be seen as a bad omen, yet it could also be viewed as a good sign.

Survive by escaping from death’s door.

Michael understood what Julia meant, "The PR department is all ready. As soon as there’s any hint of trouble, they’ll manage the public relations work."

"Mmm, thank you for your hard work."

Julia got into the car, rubbing her temples.

When she arrived home and got out of the car, she saw a man dressed in home clothes, seemingly deep in thought, sitting in the living room. She deliberately made a sound to let him know she had returned.

Turning his head and seeing Julia, James Thompson smiled faintly as he stood up and walked over, his lips curling into a smile, "You’re back. Go take a shower, then come down for dinner."

He examined her for a few moments.

Seeing him continue to gaze at her, she looked down at herself, puzzled, "Is there something strange about me?"

James, with a penetrating look, said deeply, "You’ve lost weight."

With a light laugh, Julia waved it off, "No worries, I’ve just been a bit busier with a lot of recent events. I’m going to take a shower and will be down quickly."

After her bath, she changed into comfortable home clothes and stepped out of the bathroom.

James stood by the window.

She walked up behind him, stretching out her arms to embrace him from behind.

The scent of her bath gel still lingered on her.

"Mr. Thompson, you’ve lost weight too," Julia murmured softly, "Our daughter has also lost weight. I’m really scared. Scared that man won’t treat our daughter well."

The thought of their daughter being abused in some corner made her live every day in fear.

Julia often woke up easily while sleeping.

James felt her fear and turned around to hold her in his arms, his fingers gently stroking her hair, "Little Pear, don’t be afraid, we will find our daughter, we surely will."

His gaze was deep as he stared at the wall, masking the concern in his eyes.

Under the shroud of night, a battered second-hand walk-behind tractor struggled along on a rural path.

The vehicle emitted a dull roar, breaking the silence of the night.

The dim light of the tractor illuminated the bumpy dirt road ahead.

"Do you think this kid is an idiot? She hasn’t moved in so long, lying there like a dead person," a middle-aged woman said, her voice tinged with impatience as she glanced over at the girl crouched in a corner, motionless.

She spoke in the local dialect of the village.

"Whether she’s an idiot or not, it’s our job to take care of her until she turns eighteen, then that man will come to pick her up."

The middle-aged driver, with a lean and wrinkled face, gripped the steering wheel firmly.

Curled up tightly in a corner was the thin figure of Dale Land, her eyes blankly staring into the dark night, with gauze that had turned yellow still wrapped around her face.

Her small body seemed to have lost any reaction to the outside world.

The tractor rattled along.

The shadows of the trees on either side blurred, the wind rustling through the treetops, adding an eerie atmosphere to the night.

The middle-aged woman glanced at the lifeless girl, and thinking of the money given by that man, a smile uncontrollably spread across her face.

The man had said when the girl turned eighteen, he would come for her, and then they would get another sum of money.

So be it if she was an idiot.
