Chapter 296: Together We
Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Together We
The next morning.
The weather forecast predicted it was going to be a clear day.
Julia Land rose early.
She applied light makeup to make herself look more refreshed.
First, she went to the supermarket to buy groceries and then fixed herself up, waiting for Jasper Winters. Together, they went to the police station to pick up James Thompson.
It was past ten o’clock.
James Thompson walked out of the police station, his face showing traces of exhaustion.
He saw Julia and smiled, quickly walking towards her.
"Little Julia," James called softly, his voice tender and comforting, "I’m sorry for making you worry."
Julia hugged his waist and rubbed her face against his chest.
James gently stroked her hair and whispered, "Don’t worry, I’m fine now."
Julia nodded, then stepped back from his embrace, "Mr. Thompson, come home with me."
James understood what Julia meant.
His eyes were full of indulgence towards her.
"Okay, I’ll come home with you."
The two got into the car, and once inside, they held each other’s hands tightly.
The car had a partition that gave James and Julia some private space all the way.
Back home, Jasper made an excuse to leave early without disturbing them.
Julia stuffed a bathrobe and undergarments into James’ arms, "You go take a shower first, I’ll prepare lunch."
After saying this, she quickly went to change into house clothes, tied her hair with a rubber band, and turned to hurry him, "Go take your shower, rest after that until I’m done."
James obediently went to shower, while Julia went downstairs to the kitchen to keep busy.
Men shower quickly, and he soon emerged from the bathroom, his hair still dripping.
He pushed his hair back, revealing his forehead.
His hair had grown out, leaving him no time to cut it.
He sat on the sofa, opened his laptop, and then picked up his phone from the table to call Jasper.
During his time in custody, he was unaware of the external developments.
Despite Julia’s light makeup, he could tell she might have been sleeping poorly.
That meant the search for his daughter might not be going smoothly.
"Jasper, update me on the recent developments," James said in a low voice.
"Sure," Jasper promptly reported over the phone, "We’ve checked the possible hiding spots in Dunmore City, but haven’t found any clues. Could the man have left Dunmore City already?"
James’ brow furrowed even more. If that man had taken Dale and left Dunmore City for some remote area, it would be even harder to locate them.
"Continue to intensify the search, not only in Dunmore City, but dispatch people to other counties as well, and also look into Noah Quarter’s situation."
Jasper responded, "Alright."
After hanging up, James addressed the accumulated tasks on his computer.
Meanwhile, Julia busied herself in the kitchen; when she placed the last dish on the dining table, she went upstairs to call James for lunch.
"Mr. Thompson, it’s lunchtime."
James, upon hearing Julia’s voice, stopped his work and turned to look at her as she entered, "Okay."
He stood up, walked over to Julia, and took her hand as they descended the stairs.
Both chose not to discuss any matters for the time being.
The dining table was laden with food, which at a closer look, was all vegetarian.
Julia served James some food, "Eat more, you must be exhausted recently."
James nodded, "Julia, you... don’t need to cook all vegetarian meals specially for me. You just got out of the hospital, you need nutritious food."
Julia smiled, "Starting from today, I will also eat vegetarian. We can do it together."
Together, they prayed for their daughter’s safe return.
James understood the unspoken part of Julia’s statement.
Silently, he took a bite of the food Julia had served him, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
He nodded, "Yes, together."
They quietly consumed their vegetarian lunch.
After lunch, James took care of the dishes, while Julia went upstairs to take a shower.
She came out after her bath to find James busy on the laptop seated on the sofa.
She walked over and sat next to him.
Julia spoke softly, "I’ve had someone check on Noah Quarter."
James moved the laptop from his lap to the table, then wrapped his arms around Julia, "I also asked Jasper to look into it today."
Julia adjusted her position, resting her head on his shoulder, "Noah Quarter, I want to handle it personally."
James looked straight at her, caressing her hand, "Okay."
The room fell silent for a while.
James spoke in a low voice, "We still haven’t found Dale, I’m sorry."
Hearing James’ apologetic words, a wave of sorrow washed over Julia, but she forced herself to remain calm.
She gently lifted her head to look into James’ eyes, "Mr. Thompson, we will definitely find our daughter, no matter what it takes."
James nodded, kissing her forehead, "Yes, we will definitely find our daughter."
The two embraced in silence for a moment.
A phone call interrupted their quiet moment.
Julia rose from James’ embrace and went to the dressing table to retrieve her phone; it was Michael Scott calling.
Michael’s sober voice came through, "Chairwoman, our trade-in campaign substituting old products has only managed to retrieve thirty percent of the target due to the short notice. I suspect Uncle Moore and his group might have sensed our intentions."
Julia immediately instructed, "Increase our marketing efforts, let more customers know about this trade-in campaign. Prepare for a press conference at three-thirty this afternoon; I’m headed to the office now."
After hanging up, she told James, "Mr. Thompson, I might need to make a trip to the office."
"Hmm, go ahead, I’ll wait for you at home," James said, noticing Julia hurried to change her clothes, he advised, "Little Julia, slow down."
"Okay." Julia’s voice came from the closet.
