Chapter 295: The Look of Cowardice
Chapter 295: Chapter 295: The Look of Cowardice
"Aunt Anneliese, why won’t Sophia Hart marry Benjamin Taylor?" Elise Morgan frowned.
Anneliese King spoke with determination, "Elise, I will not let Sophia Hart become my daughter-in-law."
Elise’s eyes moistened slightly.
She knew what Anneliese’s words meant; it was a glimmer of hope for her.
But she knew he would never love her.
She took a deep breath and said softly, "Aunt Anneliese, I appreciate your kindness towards me, but matters of the heart can’t be forced. I hope Benjamin finds the person he truly loves, even if it’s not me. You shouldn’t stop them."
Anneliese shook her head gently, her face showing conviction, "Elise, you are a good girl. Sophia is not suitable for our family. She’s like a greenhouse flower that requires pampering."
Anneliese took Elise’s hand, "I know you don’t want to force Benjamin, but as his mother, there are things I must do."
"Her parents are like leeches, bloodsuckers, and the shame they brought upon me and you, I can never accept Sophia Hart in my life."
Elise understood where Anneliese’s grudge lay, and knew further persuasion would be futile.
Moreover, she had no reason to persuade.
*
After taking Elise to the hospital, Andrew Benson didn’t immediately go home. Instead, he had his driver stop at a flower shop to buy a bouquet of roses.
As he held the roses and walked out of the flower shop, he received a call from Capital City.
"Mr. Thompson is currently locked up at the station, it seems he injured someone. Unless we inquire further, we won’t know the details."
Andrew bent to get into the car and looked at the flowers in his hand as he pondered the subordinate’s words from Capital City.
He wondered whether he should add some chaos to James Thompson’s situation behind the scenes.
If James was too busy, he wouldn’t have time to come to Orly and take Sophia Hart away.
But for now, this was only an idea.
Without being able to guarantee with absolute certainty that James wouldn’t notice, Andrew was smart enough not to act rashly.
His gaze fell on the vibrant roses, his eyes revealing a moment of complexity.
"Continue to monitor James Thompson and Julia Land’s movements in Capital City," he said and hung up the phone.
On the way home, his phone rang again, it was his mother calling.
"Benjamin, where are you? Can you come home for dinner tonight?" Anneliese knew her son was still angry about her using her health to trick him into returning to Orly.
"Mom, I’m not free tonight. I’ll bring Sophia with me some other day to have dinner with you," Andrew spoke softly.
Anneliese couldn’t tell from her son’s gentle tone whether he was still angry.
However, when she heard that her son wanted to bring Sophia for dinner, she instantly felt upset, "She doesn’t need to come. I’ll get indigestion."
Andrew frowned slightly, gripping the phone tighter.
Remembering that the person on the other end of the phone was his mother who had raised him through hardships, he kept his tone as calm as possible, "Mom, I have to hang up now."
He ended the call and massaged his temples.
If his mother and Sophia couldn’t get along, then they shouldn’t meet.
Anneliese was so angry that her head hurt, and the area where she had surgery was also aching.
Her son was completely choosing his wife over acknowledging his mother!
When Andrew got home, Sophia Hart was sitting on the sofa watching a short drama.
He held the flowers in front of her phone’s screen to block it.
Sophia looked up, "I was just at the good part."
"These are for you," Andrew smiled, he sat down, and pulled petite Sophia Hart into his embrace, "Go get changed, we’re going out."
Sophia put down her phone and touched the petals, "No, I’m lazy."
Andrew pinched her waist, and Sophia felt a tickle, squirming to evade his hand.
"Are you sure you don’t want to go out? I happen to be free today. If you choose not to go, we’ll just have a romantic evening at home."
He began unbuttoning the top of his shirt, his gaze tenderly on Sophia.
His usually gentle face now carried an indistinct desire.
Sophia raised the flowers in her hand to block her view.
Ever since they arrived in Orly, they hadn’t done it for a long time.
One reason was Sophia’s anger, forbidding him to touch.
The second was Andrew’s own willingness to let her cool down.
The roses were mercilessly pressed down by the man’s palm.
Sophia’s little white eyes were just rolling in annoyance, and before she could curse, she was silenced.
He kissed her dominantly.
She wondered if he had just gone out and encountered some irritation.
Sophia Hart could still think of that.
Once he released her lips,
Her voice was a bit breathless, "Let’s go outside."
She should have suggested going out earlier.
Sophia’s face was flushed, and his lips grazed her neck.
She pushed against his chest with her hands, "Outside."
Andrew Benson raised an eyebrow and let go of her; he picked up the rose that had fallen on the floor and placed it on the table, "We’ll go out in a bit."
He glanced at her.
If he didn’t move forward, she would only retreat further.
His hand went to his belt buckle, pressed, and unbuckled.
Sophia Hart, like a clever sparrow, quickly hopped off the sofa and ran.
Andrew Benson was taken aback for a moment but then chuckled quietly, unapologetically, when he saw her timid retreat.
Never mind, if Lavinia knew he was planning to disrupt James Thompson’s affairs, she would be angry.
He took out his phone and messaged his men in Capital City, instructing them not to inquire into the specific reasons for James Thompson’s arrest.
As long as James and his people didn’t come to Orly, he would not interfere with their affairs.
**
In Capital City, two days passed.
Julia Land was able to leave the hospital, but even after she returned home, she had not received any messages about finding her daughter.
She suppressed her anxious feelings.
Where exactly had that man hidden her daughter?
And she also had no idea how Mr. Thompson was faring inside.
With this anxious state of mind, another day went by, and Jasper Winters called her.
"The BOSS can come out tomorrow, but his freedom will be restricted temporarily, under supervision for two years, and he can only stay in Capital City."
Julia Land breathed a sigh of relief, "What time tomorrow, I’ll pick him up."
"Ten o’clock, I’ll pick you up tomorrow."
"Alright, I understand, thank you, Assistant Winters."
Julia Land hung up the phone.
Although Mr. Thompson’s freedom was restricted, at least he could come out.
She planned to prepare some of James Thompson’s affairs, trying to keep her anxious feelings at bay.
Julia Land set aside the company matters she was handling, massaged her forehead, and picked up her phone to call Tyler Hughes.
"Assistant Hughes, can you come over now?"
"Sure, I’ll be right there."
Tyler Hughes lived close to Julia’s house, just a few minutes away.
A few minutes later, Tyler Hughes appeared at Julia Land’s doorstep.
He hadn’t even rung the doorbell when the door opened, and Julia, dressed casually and wearing a hat, came out.
"Assistant Hughes, please drive me to Global Plaza."
Julia Land planned to shop for new clothes for James Thompson as a way to give him a fresh start.
Tyler Hughes nodded silently.
At the men’s clothing store, Tyler Hughes, hiding the sourness in his heart, silently followed Julia and carried the clothes.
He was now suffering from unrequited love, trying to do his job as a diligent worker.
Julia bought a lot of clothes for James Thompson in one go, from underwear to pajamas, shoes to socks—everything.
After the shopping, once back at home, Julia turned to Tyler Hughes and instructed, "Assistant Hughes, thank you for your hard work today."
Tyler Hughes replied, "It’s my duty, boss, I’ll be going now."
Julia nodded, and after Tyler left, she quickly took two sets of new clothes to wash.
She waited until the washing machine beeped, indicating the clothes were clean, and then picked up the man’s attire to hang.
Tomorrow, Mr. Thompson would be back.
