Chapter 290: Chapter 290 Speaking at the Same Time
The plane arrived at Dunmore City.
The Dunmore City police department was also fully cooperating, having already retrieved surveillance footage along the way.
Officer Zhang kept in contact with officers on the scene via phone, continually updating the information.
At that moment, James Thompson’s phone rang, a call from one of his subordinates.
"BOSS, we’ve checked the surveillance outside a dessert shop. An hour ago, that man was spotted with Miss Dale; they got into a minivan. We’ve sent you the footage and are currently tracking the minivan’s route."
James Thompson opened his laptop to check the video in his email.
Julia Land leaned in to look at the computer screen.
"Noah Quarter?" Julia Land furrowed her brow.
James Thompson forwarded the video to Officer Zhang.
"I’ll send someone to find Noah Quarter and ask about the situation," James Thompson immediately dialed a number.
Noah Quarter had just stepped out of the restaurant with Emily Yeat when he didn’t expect James Thompson’s men to be looking for him. Thinking back on what happened at the dessert shop, he felt reassured.
Emily Yeat frowned and asked Noah in a lowered voice, "What have you done now?"
Noah Quarter shook his head, "Nothing, you go ahead and wait in the car."
Emily Yeat glared at him and pulled Ethan Yeat into the car.
James Thompson’s subordinate, James Knight, opened the video on his phone, "Mr. Quarter, do you recognize this man and the little girl?"
Noah Quarter watched the video impassively, his expression unchanged as he replied, "I don’t know them. I found some money and thought it belonged to the man. I also don’t recognize the little girl."
James Knight stared at Noah Quarter’s face and smiled, "Really don’t recognize them? Then did you see which direction the minivan went? Did you catch the license plate?"
Noah Quarter shook his head, "Sorry, I didn’t pay attention."
Meanwhile, James Thompson’s phone rang again, another call from a subordinate, "We’ve located the minivan; it drove to the suburbs. There’s no surveillance outside the suburbs, and the search is very challenging."
James Thompson furrowed his brows, his voice deep, "Continue to dispatch more people to search."
The voice on the other end of the call replied affirmatively and hung up.
James Thompson sat in the car, gripping his phone tightly, his brow furrowed.
He turned to look at Julia Land and, seeing her lips were very dry, quickly unscrewed a bottle of water for her to drink.
Julia Land sipped the water, feeling anxious for some reason even now.
The police and James Thompson kept increasing their manpower.
They found the minivan in an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the suburb.
James Thompson’s phone rang again. This time it was Officer Zhang calling, "Mr. Thompson, we’ve found the minivan in an abandoned factory in the suburbs, but there’s no sign of the people."
James Thompson and Julia Land’s hearts rose to their throats.
No one was found.
Julia Land rubbed her temples.
They quickly drove to the abandoned factory on the outskirts.
Upon reaching the abandoned factory, the police had already set up a cordon.
James Thompson and Julia Land immediately entered the factory.
The factory was dark and damp, with a musty smell in the air.
The police were collecting fingerprints and hair from inside the vehicle to send for testing.
James Thompson and Julia Land stood outside the minivan.
Julia Land was not sitting in a wheelchair. Her leg was only slightly aching but bearable.
Officer Zhang’s voice was heavy, "We searched the entire factory and the surrounding area, but found no one. There must have been another large vehicle parked outside the factory before, which has already driven away, and there are no surveillance cameras in the vicinity."
Julia Land’s complexion paled instantly; she covered her mouth.
James Thompson supported Julia, his fists clenched tightly, his eyes filled with anger.
Officer Zhang sighed internally, knowing the longer the disappearance, the harder it would be to find the person.
**
Their daughter was still alive.
But despite deploying people to search, they could never find their daughter’s whereabouts.
Half a month later, Julia Land and James Thompson returned to Capital City.
After half a month without proper sleep, Julia Land was rushed to the hospital with a fever.
The doctor frowned at Julia Land on the hospital bed and told James Thompson seriously, "She has had surgery and needs rest. Overthinking has weakened her immune system. It’s best for the patient to relax, or the fever may recur."
James Thompson nodded. His eyes were also red, clearly lacking rest.
The doctor was unaware of what they had endured.
He couldn’t help but advise, "Both of you need to rest well, or it’s not going to end well for either of you."
James Thompson nodded, "We will take care of ourselves, thank you, doctor."
The night in Capital City.
The hospital was filled with the smell of disinfectant.
In the hospital room, Julia Land lay on the bed, pale, with sweat beading on her forehead.
James Thompson sat by the bed, holding her hand and occasionally leaning in to wipe her sweat, unable to hide the exhaustion and concern in his eyes.
He gently stroked Julia’s forehead and whispered, "Little Julia, you need to rest properly, or your body will break down, and we still need to find our daughter."
Julia Land weakly opened her eyes to see James Thompson’s haggard face, and spoke with concern, "Mr. Thompson, you should rest awhile, okay?"
James Thompson managed a weary smile, "Okay."
Julia nodded slightly and closed her eyes, a tear glistening in the corner.
She knew she needed to rest, but anxiety and worry tormented her incessantly.
In the deep of the night.
Julia Land seemed to have a dream – in it, she saw her daughter Dale running toward her, laughing and leaping into her arms, a warmth and happiness that made her not want to wake up.
James Thompson sat in the chair by the bed all the while. He noticed Julia’s complexion was off, felt her forehead, and discovered it was burning hot again.
He immediately pressed the call button.
The next morning.
Sunlight streamed through the curtains into the ward.
Julia Land slowly opened her eyes to see James Thompson still sitting in the chair by the bed.
She quietly watched him, noting the severe dark circles under his eyes without waking him.
It was not until a nurse knocked and entered to change the medication that James Thompson woke up. Seeing that Julia was awake, he stood and felt her forehead.
After the nurse left, James Thompson poured a cup of warm water, set it on the nightstand, and sat on the bed. He helped Julia sit up and lean on his chest.
"Drink some water."
"Is there any news about our daughter?"
Almost simultaneously, they both spoke.
James Thompson fed Julia water, his voice hoarse, "No news yet."
