Chapter 280 Mocking Voices
Chapter 280: Chapter 280 Mocking Voices
Regarding Madame Bell’s sudden berating,
Julia Land didn’t know what to say. She walked to Connor Bell’s bedside, bowed deeply, and then left the ward.
James Thompson also bowed and followed Julia Land out.
Both of them ignored Madame Bell, who was still hurling abuse at Julia Land.
Madame Bell’s angry voice continued to echo behind them.
As they reached the door of the ward, Julia Land glanced at Maxwell Bell, "I’ll leave the follow-up matters to you."
Maxwell Bell nodded.
Julia Land’s mood was somewhat heavy, and tears overflowed from her eyes.
James Thompson lifted Julia Land, settled her into the wheelchair, and whispered soothingly, "Little Julia, don’t overthink, this has nothing to do with you."
He listened to the cursing coming from inside the ward, his eyes cold and deep.
He pushed Julia Land to the ward that had been arranged for her. "Do you need to transfer to another hospital?"
Julia Land shook her head, her eyes revealing a hint of exhaustion, "No need."
Her voice was hoarse and weary.
James Thompson said with empathy, "Alright, then we’ll stay here."
Julia Land was extremely tired; she fell asleep as soon as she touched the hospital bed.
James Thompson sat in a chair, closing his eyes to rest, thinking of Madame Bell pointing at Julia just earlier, he twisted his eyebrows in disgust.
Julia Land slept, occasionally frowning, clearly not sleeping peacefully.
James Thompson sat beside her, opened his eyes to look at her weary face, and reached out to hold her hand.
Meanwhile, Chase Gunn was constantly trying to persuade Madame Bell to be reasonable.
He took a deep breath, tried to stay calm, and faced the emotional Madame Bell, "Lyra, Julia is your biological daughter. How can you say such things about her? What era are we living in that you still believe in bringing bad luck to relatives! You must understand, Connor’s car accident was an accident, it wasn’t anyone’s fault, and certainly not Julia’s."
Madame Bell’s eyes were full of resentment and sadness, she said with a trembling voice, "Big brother, you don’t understand, these things are not coincidences. Ever since she came back home, our family hasn’t had a peaceful day."
"Connor had a car accident, and my health is deteriorating, all the misfortunes started the day she returned."
Chase Gunn sighed, "Lyra, you can’t push all the blame onto Julia, she has already lost a lot from a young age. Treating her this way will only cause her pain."
Madame Bell was completely unreceptive, immersed in her own sorrow, covering her face, tears streaming through her fingers, "I really can’t accept it, Connor is gone, what am I supposed to do? What should I do?"
Ava King shook her head at Chase Gunn, signaling him not to talk about these matters for now, as Lyra Gunn was not in a state to listen to him.
Ava King has always thought her sister-in-law failed to see things clearly.
---
Due to Madame Bell’s hostility, Julia Land did not attend Connor Bell’s funeral.
James Thompson consoled, "We can go and pay our respects to Mr. Bell later."
Julia Land nodded, knowing that Madame Bell’s animosity towards her was deep, and her presence at the funeral would only make the situation more awkward.
After Connor Bell’s funeral was concluded.
Madame Bell was immersed in sadness, her hatred for Julia Land deepening.
Celeste Lewis was Maxwell Bell’s fiancée and had been staying by Madame Bell’s side these past few days.
She occasionally heard Madame Bell rebuking Julia Land and felt a bit of schadenfreude.
"Mom, Madame Bell actually accused Julia Land of bringing bad luck to relatives." Celeste Lewis shared this with Jasmine Lewis in the evening, excitement twinkling in her eyes.
Jasmine Lewis was surprised for a moment, then a smile appeared on her face, saying lightly, "Their mother-daughter discord is a good thing for you and Arthur."
Celeste Lewis hadn’t thought too much about it; she purely wanted to revel in Julia Land’s troubles.
She confusedly asked, "Mom, why is it a good thing for both of us?"
Seeing her daughter clueless, Jasmine Lewis shook her head helplessly, "Arthur is just a manager of the Bell Group, and he doesn’t own many shares. If Connor didn’t leave a will, and Madame Bell is at odds with Julia Land, Connor’s shares might end up going to Arthur."
Celeste Lewis’s eyes brightened, suddenly understanding the stakes involved.
A joyous smile appeared on her face, "Yes, if their mother-daughter relationship is strained, the shares might go to Arthur."
Celeste Lewis and Jasmine Lewis were filled with anticipation for the future.
Jasmine Lewis smiled slightly, "So, during this time, you must make a good impression on Madame Bell, try to win her favor as much as possible."
Celebrant Lewis spoke eagerly, "Mom, I’ll try my best!"
At another point in time, Madame Bell, overwhelmed by grief, had neglected her health, and her heart and kidneys couldn’t withstand it; she ended up in the hospital.
Acting on Jasmine Lewis’s advice, Celeste Lewis hurried to the hospital to personally take care of Madame Bell.
Through her actions, she not only won the good feelings of Madame Bell but also those of Maxwell Bell.
Celeste Lewis, holding a bowl, urged worriedly, "Aunt, I had the chef make the soup you love to drink, for the sake of your health, won’t you have some?"
Maxwell Bell also spoke concernedly, "Aunt, have a bit, please?"
Madame Bell lay on the hospital bed, her complexion pale, her body exuding a trace of weakness.
She looked at Celeste Lewis, a flicker of reassurance in her eyes and nodded slightly, "Okay, I’ll drink a little."
Celeste Lewis immediately smiled, gently blew on the soup, helped Madame Bell to sit up with the aid of Maxwell, and then brought the soup to Madame Bell’s lips, "Aunt, take it easy."
Madame Bell took a sip of the soup, looked up at Celeste Lewis, "Celeste, you are a good child. It’s been hard on you these past days."
Celeste Lewis shook her head, her words sincere, "Aunt, don’t say that. I’m just doing what I should, as long as you can get better."
After Madame Bell drank a small bowl of soup, Celeste Lewis, carrying the thermos, left.
"Wasn’t that Julia Land?"
Celeste Lewis, holding the thermos, hurriedly followed.
She saw from a distance James Thompson pushing Julia Land, who was sitting in a wheelchair, out of the hospital.
The man carefully helped the woman into the car, the bodyguard quickly folded the wheelchair, and the car drove away.
Celeste Lewis looked puzzled at the departing car, wondering what had happened to Julia Land and why she was in a wheelchair.
She whispered to the bodyguard beside her, "Find out why Dale Group’s Director Land is appearing at the hospital."
The bodyguard nodded and headed back into the hospital.
As soon as Celeste Lewis returned home, she received the information from the bodyguard; Julia Land had undergone surgery and was in the recovery phase.
