Chapter 271: Chapter 271: She is in Pain
After the meeting, Tyler Hughes left Julia Land’s room carrying his laptop.
He returned to his room, thinking about his boss’s eyes that seemed to have been crying.
He used his phone to find the nearest toy store.
Tyler went to the toy store and bought some toys before returning to the hotel.
Julia Land heard a knock at the door and rolled her wheelchair to open it.
Tyler handed her a bag of items he was holding and scratched the back of his head, "Boss, these are some things for stress relief. I’ll be going now."
He quickly ran back to his own room.
Julia Land closed the door, opened the bag, and saw Slime, a Simulation Bun, and a Large Return Key inside.
Last of all, Julia picked up another item—it was a Venting Pot, the kind that roars.
Julia paused for a moment, then smiled, appreciating Assistant Hughes’s thoughtfulness.
She picked up the Simulation Bun, squeezed it, and felt its soft and springy texture. Then, she placed the Large Return Key on the desk and gently pressed it down, creating a ’thud’ sound.
Her smile deepened as she picked up the Venting Pot.
This Roar Pot was used for venting emotions. She aimed the mouth of the pot at herself and tried a soft, "Ah—"
It was a noise-canceling Roar Pot.
"This is actually kind of interesting," Julia murmured to herself.
She tidied up the toys, grateful for Assistant Hughes’s kindness regardless.
She sent a message to Tyler Hughes, [Assistant Hughes, thank you.]
Julia glanced at the time; she still had some work to manage. She adjusted her mindset and returned to her work mode.
And in the next room, Tyler Hughes, seeing the message from Julia, beamed with joy.
Around 5:30 in the evening,
James Thompson arrived on time with dinner.
"You don’t need to bring me meals tomorrow," Julia said softly as she ate her dinner.
After signing contracts tomorrow, she would dine with Isaac and his team, and the day after tomorrow, she would rush to catch a flight back to Capital City.
"Yes, I know," James replied.
He cupped the back of her head and leaned down to kiss her.
Her long eyelashes trembled slightly.
The two of them parted, breathing heavily.

The next morning, Tyler Hughes was pushing Julia, who was in her wheelchair, toward the Pearwill Group when
Julia asked Tyler to wait. "Assistant Hughes, push me to the coffee shop across the street."
They entered the coffee shop, and Julia ordered three coffees while Tyler queued up to pay.
She waited by a window on the side and inadvertently overheard a gossiping conversation.
"I heard that a deputy manager in the testing department offended the boss’s wife and was fired after work yesterday."
"Ah? Who’s the boss’s wife?"
"I heard it’s Elizabeth Shaw from the testing department."
"Really?"
"Yes, someone saw her getting close to BOSS."
The two female colleagues, who had been gossiping softly, walked out of the coffee shop with their coffees.
Julia heard the name ’Elizabeth Shaw’ and raised her eyebrows quizzically.
She didn’t think much of it, assuming they were talking about Max and never associating it with James Thompson.
Julia tried to turn her wheelchair around but accidentally bumped into someone.
"Ah!" Elizabeth Shaw, holding a cup of hot coffee, had some of the coffee splash onto the back of her hand.
Juliet Martin, who was looking at Julia, frowned and exclaimed, "What’s wrong with you? Be careful!"
"I’m sorry," Julia quickly apologized and looked up at Elizabeth Shaw, "Miss Shaw, is your hand okay?"
Elizabeth’s hand was a bit scalded, but seeing that it was a client Director Land had once brought in, she said, "It’s fine, not serious."
But Juliet was relentless, "What do you mean, not serious? That’s hot coffee. You’re just too kind."
Tyler Hughes, noticing something was happening with Julia, quickly walked over.
Elizabeth frowned—she had no idea why Juliet was being so enthusiastic toward her today. She hurriedly told Juliet, "Let it go, it’s really no big deal. We need to hurry, or we’ll be late for work."
She nodded at Julia and left first, with Juliet having no choice but to follow.
Tyler approached and asked Julia, "Boss, are you alright?"
"I’m fine," Julia said with a light smile.
*
At that moment, Juliet Martin stepped out of the coffee shop and said with a smile, "Elizabeth, I was worried about you just now."
Elizabeth Shaw smiled politely, "Hmm, thanks."
Juliet Martin brought up another thing, "I really didn’t expect that the big boss cares so much about you that he fired the deputy director for you."
They had just heard gossip from two female colleagues.
Elizabeth Shaw smiled awkwardly, "...The firing of the deputy director really has nothing to do with me."
Juliet Martin chuckled, "Oh Elizabeth, you don’t have to hide it, we all know."
Elizabeth Shaw sighed, feeling somewhat helpless, as indeed this matter had nothing to do with her, but clearly everyone misunderstood.
However, Elizabeth Shaw thought about the deputy director who had always troubled her being fired, and she felt quite happy about it.
Meanwhile, Julia Land and Tyler Hughes left the coffee shop and went directly to Pearwill Group.
The elevator ascended, stopping only at the Chairman’s office floor.
After Tyler Hughes pushed Julia Land into the office, he waited outside.
Julia Land handed the three cups of coffee they had just bought to Max and his colleagues.
Max and Isaac inquired about Julia Land’s knee injury.
"Director Land, how is your knee? Try to rest as much as possible," Max asked with concern.
Julia Land nodded, "Thank you for your concern."
They sat down together and began discussing the details of the contract.
Julia Land and Isaac carefully reviewed each clause and suggested some modifications.
After the contract was signed, they discussed other potential collaborations in the future.
Their discussion lasted until noon.
Max picked up a coffee from the table and laughed, "Should we try the Pearwill Group’s lunch at noon?"
Julia Land smiled and nodded in agreement, "Of course."
Isaac also expressed agreement, saying deeply, "Yes, I’ve heard your cafeteria is quite good."
At noon, the three of them went to the Pearwill Group’s cafeteria together.
The cafeteria was simply and neatly arranged, and the scent of food was enticing.
Tyler Hughes went to get Julia Land’s favorite dishes.
Julia Land tasted a bite and nodded, "The food here is really good; it tastes great."
Max nodded with a smile, "We hope our employees can enjoy good food even while at work."
After lunch, Julia Land wheeled herself to the women’s restroom.
Unexpectedly, while solving life’s problems in the restroom, she heard suppressed voices arguing outside.
When she came out after using the restroom, she saw three women arguing.
"Who are you talking about? Your mouth is so filthy!" Juliet Martin exclaimed angrily.
"I’m talking about you. Knowing that the boss’s wife is Elizabeth Shaw, you just rush to curry favor with her, not even considering if she cares about you," a female colleague from the same testing department mocked.
Being insulted like this, the proud Juliet Martin couldn’t control her anger and slapped the colleague, "What nonsense are you talking about!"
The female colleague wasn’t one to be easily bullied either; she retaliated with a slap.
Elizabeth Shaw contained her anger and urged them not to fight, "This is the company, do you want to lose face!"
Julia Land indifferently continued wheeling her chair, preparing to wash her hands, then to steer clear of the trouble.
Elizabeth Shaw also noticed Julia Land’s presence and felt a bit embarrassed.
However, Juliet Martin, having just been slapped by the female colleague, lost control of her temper and kicked the colleague.
The female colleague dodged, thereby bumping into Elizabeth Shaw, and Julia Land happened to be pushing her wheelchair just behind Elizabeth Shaw.
The accident happened in a flash.
Elizabeth Shaw was bumped violently by the female colleague, causing her to fall backward, unfortunately toppling over Julia Land’s wheelchair.
The wheelchair overturned.
Julia Land was pinned down by the wheelchair and by Elizabeth Shaw.
"Elizabeth!" Juliet Martin and another female colleague rushed to help Elizabeth Shaw up first.
While Julia Land was still pinned under the wheelchair.
Elizabeth Shaw’s hand seemed to be fractured, and her back was also in severe pain, making her face pale and sweat break out.
Juliet Martin and the others first helped Elizabeth Shaw to lie down.
The female colleague moved the wheelchair away and, seeing another woman lying on the ground groaning in pain, she quickly took out her phone and dialed emergency services.
Julia Land’s consciousness was becoming fuzzy.
She was in so much pain.
